So, before I get started on today’s fashion post, I have to comment on the Target Lilly Pulitzer fiasco! Well, let me clarify that. From Target’s perspective it was a huge success and probably not considered a fiasco. But, to their shoppers it sure was!
Did any of you go to Target this past Sunday to check out and possibly buy something from Lilly? I’ll admit that I was intrigued when I heard about the collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer and Target and since I love bright colors and summer outfits, I checked out the collection online that morning before I left for church. I saw a few things I wanted to check out. I never dreamed that it was already sold out!
Yep, from what I read later, the website crashed within minutes of the collection going live around 3 a.m. Who stays up til that time of the a.m. to shop online?! I had NO idea the magnitude of this sale and apparently Target didn’t either. I also saw pics of LONG lines waiting to get into Target stores all over the country as women literally pushed and shoved their way inside the stores to grab huge arm loads of clothing as it was hanging on the rack. The normal people never even got a chance to shop. And apparently, all of this was so that the greedy buyers could then turn around and list these Lilly clothes on Ebay to make a big profit! What the heck?! I just checked Ebay before writing this post and there are now over 32,000 listings for Lilly Pulitzer for Target. That’s insane!
I was so disappointed at how this was handled. I have no idea if Target had an idea that this would happen, but you would think that a better method could have been devised for selling these clothes. It seems that as soon as the stores opened, within minutes, the clothes were all gone, along with all the home decor items and accessories. I stopped in later that afternoon after lunch and it was nothing but a memory.
Oh well, I guess I can live without Lilly at this point in life! I’m not about to buy any off Ebay either. I’d love to know what y’all experienced or if you tried to get in a store.
On to my regularly scheduled fashion post. Today we are talking about white jeans. Now, I know many of us grew up not ever wearing white before Memorial Day or after Labor day, but I’m here to tell you, those days are over. (Y’all are right, the ‘rules’ were After Easter and Before Labor Day). Forgot that part! But even so feel free to wear white right now! Somehow I think that rule started with white shoes, which most of us don’t wear anymore. I have white flip-flops, that’s about it.
I love having white jeans in my closet to mix with so many things during spring and summer months.
These are skinny white jeans from Target, by Mossimo and I bought them at least 3 years ago. I debated on tucking this blouse in, but decided to go really casual and leave it out. These jeans are a bit on the low rider side and I really don’t like tucking things in with this pair. I’d like to get another higher cut pair so that I can tuck in shirts if I want to.
In fact, I have white jeans ordered from Banana Republic so we will see how those fit. These gray flats are by BCBG.
This top is another of my fabulous deals that I found at the C Wonder sale last Christmas. I scored so many great things at that sale and now I’m getting out the spring things. This vivid coral and white blouse has such a nice feel to the fabric. Check out the cuffs, when they are turned back, there’s a lime green detail on the sleeve. I love the buttons too, coral and gold.
I added my gold and turquoise chunky jewelry for some added color. Coral and turquoise just goes together like peanut butter and jelly. I love how it looks with this coral and white blouse. I wish I could link this blouse for you all, but unfortunately C Wonder has gone out of business. Too sad, because they really had some nice things.
So, that’s all I have today, a springy top and white jeans outfit. I’ll be doing more spring things as we move into warmer weather.

Feeling crafty for spring? Here are a few DIY art projects I’m featuring if you’re in the mood to do a project.
I thought about checking the Target website yesterday afternoon and I saw some cute napkins, 4 for $10, but they were sold out. Personally, I wouldn’t pay the prices they are probably asking on eBay. (I just checked eBay…$48+ and bidding still open…for a set of 4 napkins…no thank you.) I guess some people don’t care how much they spend.
As for white jeans/pants/shorts….I always by a size larger when wearing white bottoms and I feel more comfortable.
I’m sorry so many of you feel poorly about Target. I work for them and we don’t always get things right. We will learn from this for special promotions in the future.
Target knew EXACTLY what they were doing:( Their Missoni collection from a few years ago was also this poorly executed, so Boo! Hiss! to them.
Hello, Rhoda! I’ve been following you in INstagram but this is my first visit to your blog, I think. Love your cute outfit. I’m a huge fan of white jeans and I wear my year around. My favs are Cut from the Kloth Diana skinnies-higher rise and cute as a button!
Thanks, Susan, I just looked those up and they look really cute. If the Banana Republic ones I just ordered don’t work, I’ll try those.
Lilly is asking people to boycott the ebay sites where their product is being sold!
I bought my very first pair of white capri’s this year and look forward to wearing them a lot with all my pretty tops!! I love that blouse you have on from CWonder!!
Wondering why in the world would Lilly combine with Target???? The two just do not match at all.
This has probably already been said, but every time Target collaborates with a big-name designer, the same thing happens. Website crashes, nothing left in stores, and an abundance on eBay. Every. Single. Time.
Love the coral blouse with the white jeans. I have a pair that actually fits and is thick enough (I too am over 50) and I wear them often, but only a couple of times between each washing. So far they have stayed white lol. I am VERY disgusted with Target right now. Saw a TV spot a couple of days prior to start of LP campaign. Didn’t think that much about it but stopped by my local Target the day after the collection was rolled out. They had maybe six pieces of clothing and one set of those overpriced drinking glasses. I thought, well I’ll go online and maybe think about ordering a dress. HORRIFIED to see, totally sold out of everything. I know Targer did this on purpose (not ordering enough merch to satisfy expected demand) and ensure a sellout. This time they deserve all the bad press they’re receiving.
This is such a classy, yet casual look! That shirt is so beautiful

Although I am pretty disappointed in Target for not controlling the Lilly Pullitzer items, I am sadder that C. Wonder went out! I loved their blouses and got the cutest denim jacket before they went out…Target should have enforced a 3 item only policy or something! My daughter was excited about ti and was on line at 7 am. The line was already around the corner! She was able to get an umbrella and a nice pineapple chip dish, but she had wanted a cute dress that she had seen, Too bad Target did not take control and make it a nice experience!
I love your outfit! I always had whilte pants and my kids, too. Such a fresh, clean look!
Nancy
Hello Rhonda, I was not one of the crazy’s in line. For me, I don’t find the discounted name brand lines to be good quality. But, you never know line to line . I do have to say, you look great in the coral top and you hair looks really nice, as well. White pants…..I own about 6 pair and my husband questions that. I tell him, you have to have straight legs, flair, crop, boot, etc. I’m sure you understand too. Happy Spring!
Fiasco? I’m so tired of the target bashing. Because shoppers didn’t get a Lilly Pullitzer piece of merchandise they are never shopping there again? Really? Should they have had more merchandise? Probably. Target actually did set limits on certain items and inventory limits were determined in collaboration with the designer. Remember that Target is a generous contributor to local communities and charities that we all benefit from.
I’ll still be shopping at Target, Nancy. I just think it could have been handled better, that’s all.
Since I usually leave Target empty handed anyway this Lilly Pulitzer merchandise didn’t interest me.
I’ve your blogs. I’m a hugs fan of white jeans. My best combinations are Chico jeans (petite) and Talbots button up cotton blouses with sleeves that roll up. I also like full linen pants with flair too for summer. I live in Beaufort NC a charming coastal town and also a Realtor. My wardrobe has become much more casual for work. Like capris etc. showing coastal properties is fun but you have to have clothes that work. White jeans, capris, skirts, and linen for later work for this southern girl over 50. Please keep blogging. I really enjoy it. Love coral and turquoise accessories too!
I am a long time reader. Yours is one of my favorite blogs — but you dropped the ball on this one. I am a part time eBay seller so maybe that’s why I was a little sensitive to this post. “Greedy” shoppers at Target buying a piece or two of clothing for resale and making a small profit is no different than you writing this blog for profit. It’s called free market capitalism. Just wanted to offer you a different perspective.
I love Lily but like you missed out on the Target fiasco. I love my white jeans and pair it them with turquoise, coral, yellow and navy. FYI Kohl’s has Rockin Republic jeans that fit very well and are not terribly expensive. I have gotten several wonderful Lily pieces from TJ Maxx. My most favorite dress is a Lily from TJ Maxx. It is my go to outfit for showers and brunch.
HI, Gladys, yes I love Rock & Republic jeans from Kohls and have featured them on here a few times.
Rhoda – I suspect Target knew exactly what to expect as the Lily response is exactly what occurred with their Missoni collaboration two or three years ago. With the Missoni experience in mind, I arrived at my local Target at 8:01am (one minute late, darn) and was able to pick up several cute pieces for my baby nieces, but missed out on the ‘home’ items I had my eye on. It was quite a morning! ~ Julie
Hey, Julie, I somehow missed the Missoni thing, so I guess this is just a repeat of that. I just think there should be a better way to handle something like that.
