So, before I get started on today’s fashion post, I have to comment on the Target Lilly Pulitzer fiasco! Â Well, let me clarify that. Â From Target’s perspective it was a huge success and probably not considered a fiasco. Â But, to their shoppers it sure was!
Did any of you go to Target this past Sunday to check out and possibly buy something from Lilly? Â I’ll admit that I was intrigued when I heard about the collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer and Target and since I love bright colors and summer outfits, I checked out the collection online that morning before I left for church. I saw a few things I wanted to check out. I never dreamed that it was already sold out!
Yep, from what I read later, the website crashed within minutes of the collection going live around 3 a.m. Â Who stays up til that time of the a.m. to shop online?! Â I had NO idea the magnitude of this sale and apparently Target didn’t either. Â I also saw pics of LONG lines waiting to get into Target stores all over the country as women literally pushed and shoved their way inside the stores to grab huge arm loads of clothing as it was hanging on the rack. Â The normal people never even got a chance to shop. Â And apparently, all of this was so that the greedy buyers could then turn around and list these Lilly clothes on Ebay to make a big profit! Â What the heck?! Â I just checked Ebay before writing this post and there are now over 32,000 listings for Lilly Pulitzer for Target. Â That’s insane!
I was so disappointed at how this was handled. Â I have no idea if Target had an idea that this would happen, but you would think that a better method could have been devised for selling these clothes. Â It seems that as soon as the stores opened, within minutes, the clothes were all gone, along with all the home decor items and accessories. Â I stopped in later that afternoon after lunch and it was nothing but a memory.
Oh well, I guess I can live without Lilly at this point in life! Â I’m not about to buy any off Ebay either. Â I’d love to know what y’all experienced or if you tried to get in a store.
On to my regularly scheduled fashion post. Â Today we are talking about white jeans. Â Now, I know many of us grew up not ever wearing white before Memorial Day or after Labor day, but I’m here to tell you, those days are over. (Y’all are right, the ‘rules’ were After Easter and Before Labor Day). Forgot that part! Â But even so feel free to wear white right now! Â Somehow I think that rule started with white shoes, which most of us don’t wear anymore. I have white flip-flops, that’s about it.
I love having white jeans in my closet to mix with so many things during spring and summer months.
These are skinny white jeans from Target, by Mossimo and I bought them at least 3 years ago. Â I debated on tucking this blouse in, but decided to go really casual and leave it out. Â These jeans are a bit on the low rider side and I really don’t like tucking things in with this pair. Â I’d like to get another higher cut pair so that I can tuck in shirts if I want to.
In fact, I have white jeans ordered from Banana Republic so we will see how those fit. Â These gray flats are by BCBG.
This top is another of my fabulous deals that I found at the C Wonder sale last Christmas. Â I scored so many great things at that sale and now I’m getting out the spring things. Â This vivid coral and white blouse has such a nice feel to the fabric. Â Check out the cuffs, when they are turned back, there’s a lime green detail on the sleeve. Â I love the buttons too, coral and gold.
I added my gold and turquoise chunky jewelry for some added color. Â Coral and turquoise just goes together like peanut butter and jelly. Â I love how it looks with this coral and white blouse. Â I wish I could link this blouse for you all, but unfortunately C Wonder has gone out of business. Â Too sad, because they really had some nice things.
So, that’s all I have today, a springy top and white jeans outfit. Â I’ll be doing more spring things as we move into warmer weather.
Joining The Pleated Poppy’s What I Wore Wednesday.
Feeling crafty for spring? Â Here are a few DIY art projects I’m featuring if you’re in the mood to do a project.Â
Love your outfit series. I love the blouse! My TJMaxx has had many real Lily dressess, coverups, and houseware accessories lately.
I have white jeans but for some reason I never wear them. Guess I need to pull them out of the closet and give it a go. Thanks
Rhoda,
Love, love, love your coral and white blouse! And the color of turquoise just makes it POP! As for the Lily Pulitzer frenzy…..I don’t recall something so CRAZY since the Cabbage Patch Kid Christmas Frenzy in the early 80s!! (Oh gosh, I might have dated myself!!!)
Knew nothing about Lilly Pulitzer items being at Target until I heard it on the news… Who is Lilly Pulitzer anyway? I look for cute clothes that fit well and look good on me. People go crazy for some dumb things.
I love your outfit… I have one that is similar to yours that I found at JC Penney only difference is that I got white Capri pants. You look awesome as always!
I love white jeans, I’ve had different versions of them for years. I wore them on Easter for an outdoor egg hunt and again to a musical. So versatile. I knew from another fashion blog about Lilly P coming to Target, but I confess I’d never heard of the label. I agree with the others, when Target releases a collaboration, they need to set limits on the amount of items people can buy. I will not give in to Ebay scalpers. I hope they all get stuck with that stuff!
I arrived at Target with my sweet daughter at 7:30 and we were 4th in line. We spent 30 minutes bonding with another mother daughter pair and devised a plan as many people lined up behind us and you could tell they were not Lilly shoppers. We were lucky enough to get 2 dresses and a pair of shorts before the vultures came swooping in, grabbing everything off the racks and filling their carts. It was insane to say the least! Fortunately the sweet group of high school girls who managed to grab a few things made it to the dressing rooms to try on the clothes and got smart. As the resellers stood outside the dressing room asking for all that didn’t fit, the girls began to trade amongst themselves and the mothers blocked the doors. Each girl was able to walk away with something they loved and they all seemed happy. I’m not a Black Friday shopper and this was a crazy new experience for me. We regularly purchase from our Lilly store and will continue to do so. I would never support the resellers and was very disappointed in how they ruined the experience for so many.
Amy, that is just crazy! I never would have dreamed that this frenzy would b so fierce and it’s the resellers that took me by surprise. That never entered my mind! Glad you got some stuff though.
I have an almost 18 year old daughter that was hoping to buy a Lilly dress she saw in the preview online. She couldn’t get to the store until a little after 10:00 because she had an early morning babysitting job. As you can imagine, she walked out empty-handed. I had told her the night before while we were both previewing that I bet that they would only have a limited amount of pieces and that people were going to hoard them and sell them on Ebay. If I knew this, how would Target not know? For people who were hoping for their one piece of affordable Lilly, Target’s strategy left a sour taste in their mouths, to be sure. All over my Facebook page I have seen women swearing off Target. Guess it didn’t quite have the effect they were hoping for.
P.S. I am 50 and am enjoying your “Fashion over 50” series. I am quite heavy and can’t get away with what you are able to wear, but I enjoy it nonetheless. I certainly have some friends that need to see it, too! Some dress like they are 70 already and some dress like they did when they were 25!! 🙂
I wasn’t interested in the Lilly stuff so I didn’t check online or go to the store. I did hear lots was selling on Ebay and that Target would not be restocking any Lilly items, and that didn’t make much sense to me.
As for white, I’ve always heard after EAster and not after Labor Day. not that I go by those old rules! LOL I wear white pants but am not so much a fan or white jeans. I feel like I can dress up a pair of white pants more if need be and jeans are too heavy (to me) in the warmer months unless you can find the light weight ones. I don’t even wear long blue jeans once it starts warming up – just too warm here in TN! But I do like white pants and I have a coral/white rayon shirt I bought recently that I will be wearing with white pants. I love the color and the rayon is light weight – feels good!
I loved this outfit so much I pinned it! jodie

Hi Rhoda, I love white jeans as well. I really like how you styled yours today, great color combinations with your shirt and jewelry. My niece was in line at her local Target in Ga. She was able to get a few of Lilly’s cosmetic bags, but has no intentions of putting them on Ebay. A big part of her wardrobe is Lilly Pulitzer. She’s a preppy kind of girl!
Love that coral top. I have long and crop white jeans. Looks like I’ll be shopping for a coral blouse. That pop of unexpected color at the turned up cuff…… So great.
White jeans are a staple in my wardrobe and have been for years, they never leave my closet from season to season. I know some women have not been on board, but now are, not sure why, they are a great staple for your wardrobe. I miss CWonder so much, was very sad they went out of business. Love that top on you Rhoda, it looks so fresh and crisp. For me, the only thing I would change is less jewelry so you do notice the cute lime green detail and the great print. But, I am a less is more gal from way back!!
LOVE the look, Rhoda! White jeans are so fantastic…I’ve even started wearing mine in the winter with boots.
SOOO dissappointed with Target/Lilly. I am disgusted that they would fail to stock appropriately and allow people to clear entire racks and put them into their cart…don’t start me on the website ridiculousness. Don’t want ANY of the items or to step foot in Target after all of this. Such a terrible taste in my mouth from it all. And the eBay part…insane!
I must live in a cave. I have no idea who Lilly Pulitzer is. Never heard of her, so won’t be buying her stuff…..that is unless it is cool and back in Target soon. : )
p.s. I love your blog. . would love to be a SOUTHERN GIRL!!
Coral and white look great on you, Rhoda. I love white jeans and when you are tall, I’m 5’9″, they make your legs look very long, which is good. Lately though, I’ve had a hard time finding ones that are thick enough hide your underwear and/or tops that are tucked in. That goes for crops also. I think the longer tops/tunics help.
Good morning Rhoda , this is a very pretty classic look that I happen to love. Your jewelry pieces look nice also. Anymore , the older I get I like a classic casual look. So timeless you can just about go anywhere in and look pretty but not a lot of muss or fuss. Your hair looks pretty these days also. Thanks for your prayers for our daughter Allison she is doing better these days Rhoda I appreciate you.
Carole, I’m so glad to hear your daughter is doing better. Life will go on and she will end up happier than ever, I’m sure. She knows where to put her trust.
It’s a shame some people get so hyped up about a brand of clothes. I like Lilly’s clothes but refuse to pay those prices. It’s not about the brand anyway. It’s about how well the item is sewn and how it looks on you. Love your outfit, and I love white jeans too!
You look so pretty today, especially your hair looks great. Your clothes aren’t bad either.
You look absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for giving great clothing options to the over 50 crowd:)
Your white jeans look great on you with colorful top! I love my white jeans( WHBM) and stretchy white pants that are Lena Gabrielle from Stein Mart. They are a go to item in my closet to pair with cute fun tops in the summer & show off a tan. Fake of course.:) White just makes everything feel fresh in the hot heat! Thanks for sharing your fashion posts with us! We do enjoy!
I believe I am ‘normal’. I arrived for opening at my local Target at 8am with my two daughters. There were approximately 50 people ahead. A Target Representative came out to inform us that because our Target is a low volume store they didn’t receive any swimwear, or children’s and very little ladies clothing. Some people exited the line to go to the nearest biggest Target. We stayed. We managed to get a beach tote, toiletry bags and beach towels and a hammock. At no point did we see unpleasantness, or hoarding. The ladies shopping were friendly, and enjoying their shopping. No, I won’t sell any of our LP on eBay, and it is a little shameful to have women that didn’t manage to get to their local Target in a timely fashion shame those that did. After all, it is clothing, not necessities. As a side note, or Target for a second shipment the next day. The nice store employee told me, so the next day, we scored a pair of shorts for my daughter and an umbrella for outdoors. I guess it pays to be nice.
I cannot handle vicious crowds so I went Monday early evening after my work out class. I did not see
a single clothing item so I proceeded to the home furnishings department. Nothing there to be had.
I then went to the furthest corner of our Target where patio furniture is displayed and found what
remained of a Lilly display. Only one item remained and it was gold sphere string lights at $25.oo. NO
THANK YOU. Hers cannot be any better than what is at Home Depot or Lowe’s. A win for Target
perhaps but not for everyone. Love your blog and you southern gals have so many different shops
at your disposal. Wish Missouri would get its act together!!!!
