Fashion over 50: White Jeans

So, before I get started on today’s fashion post, I have to comment on the Target Lilly Pulitzer fiasco!  Well, let me clarify that.  From Target’s perspective it was a huge success and probably not considered a fiasco.  But, to their shoppers it sure was!

Did any of you go to Target this past Sunday to check out and possibly buy something from Lilly?  I’ll admit that I was intrigued when I heard about the collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer and Target and since I love bright colors and summer outfits, I checked out the collection online that morning before I left for church. I saw a few things I wanted to check out. I never dreamed that it was already sold out!

Yep, from what I read later, the website crashed within minutes of the collection going live around 3 a.m.  Who stays up til that time of the a.m. to shop online?!  I had NO idea the magnitude of this sale and apparently Target didn’t either.  I also saw pics of LONG lines waiting to get into Target stores all over the country as women literally pushed and shoved their way inside the stores to grab huge arm loads of clothing as it was hanging on the rack.  The normal people never even got a chance to shop.  And apparently, all of this was so that the greedy buyers could then turn around and list these Lilly clothes on Ebay to make a big profit!  What the heck?!  I just checked Ebay before writing this post and there are now over 32,000 listings for Lilly Pulitzer for Target.  That’s insane!

I was so disappointed at how this was handled.  I have no idea if Target had an idea that this would happen, but you would think that a better method could have been devised for selling these clothes.  It seems that as soon as the stores opened, within minutes, the clothes were all gone, along with all the home decor items and accessories.  I stopped in later that afternoon after lunch and it was nothing but a memory.

Oh well, I guess I can live without Lilly at this point in life!  I’m not about to buy any off Ebay either.  I’d love to know what y’all experienced or if you tried to get in a store.

On to my regularly scheduled fashion post.  Today we are talking about white jeans.  Now, I know many of us grew up not ever wearing white before Memorial Day or after Labor day, but I’m here to tell you, those days are over. (Y’all are right, the ‘rules’ were After Easter and Before Labor Day). Forgot that part!  But even so feel free to wear white right now!  Somehow I think that rule started with white shoes, which most of us don’t wear anymore. I have white flip-flops, that’s about it.

I love having white jeans in my closet to mix with so many things during spring and summer months.

These are skinny white jeans from Target, by Mossimo and I bought them at least 3 years ago.  I debated on tucking this blouse in, but decided to go really casual and leave it out.  These jeans are a bit on the low rider side and I really don’t like tucking things in with this pair.  I’d like to get another higher cut pair so that I can tuck in shirts if I want to.

In fact, I have white jeans ordered from Banana Republic so we will see how those fit.  These gray flats are by BCBG.

This top is another of my fabulous deals that I found at the C Wonder sale last Christmas.  I scored so many great things at that sale and now I’m getting out the spring things.  This vivid coral and white blouse has such a nice feel to the fabric.  Check out the cuffs, when they are turned back, there’s a lime green detail on the sleeve.  I love the buttons too, coral and gold.

I added my gold and turquoise chunky jewelry for some added color.  Coral and turquoise just goes together like peanut butter and jelly.  I love how it looks with this coral and white blouse.  I wish I could link this blouse for you all, but unfortunately C Wonder has gone out of business.  Too sad, because they really had some nice things.

So, that’s all I have today, a springy top and white jeans outfit.  I’ll be doing more spring things as we move into warmer weather.

You look great Rhoda. I love the top and the jeans. Lily Pulitzer, who knew! I did not know anything about it until I saw it on the national news. I won’t be buying anything from eBay either.

You look amazing , as always! I was hoping to score some of the Lilly Target items also, but guess it will not be happening. I went on Ebay and searched for the cup set I wanted and it is priced about 3 times what it was in Target. Savy buyers will not be paying those prices.

Love the color on you, one of my favorite as well. I was just wondering if anyone was into their whites yet….maybe I’ll do a spray tanner today while working in the yard then the white will even look better on. Hugs and thanks for inspiring us.

The Target sale is news to me. We don’t get a newspaper so we didn’t know in advance — but I wouldn’t have gone anyway. I really can’t abide the greed some of these sales produce. It’s one thing to go and get an outfit for yourself or as a gift, but to buy Target out so that you can sell it for a higher price on Ebay is beyond greed. Oh well, You look cute in your outfit and I agree with white pants. Wear them whenever you like.

Love your look today, I bought a new pair of white Jeans on Sunday and can not wait to wear them. You look great! I would not buy Lilly from Target. I have bought a number of her pieces on Ebay in the last few years and they are made very well and I love them just as I have some Real Missoni pieces but I find that when they are done for Target they are not as well made. They are not only not as well made but the designs are not as original. They look like copies.

I think white is so hard to pull off on bottoms and appreciate when done right! You look great! I’ve been on the hunt for a few years and haven’t had any luck.

Just my thought on the Lilly issue – if people don’t buy from the Ebay greeders, then eventually the issue may die down and allow normal people to buy from retailers. Easier said than done, I realize. But I won’t even be looking at them. I have a similar policy when I shop antique malls and see that they’ve hugely marked up Goodwill finds (with the black pricing still on the bottom!). Love the white jeans and top! This is definitely a great color for you Rhoda. Thanks

Target knew ~ They whipped everyone into a social media frenzy with the Lilly launch. Too bad they didn’t put limits in place. Love the top and you always look great in jeans. I definitely need a new pair of white jeans.

Really cute outfit, Rhoda! You look great! I love the look of white jeans (I remember Jackie Kennedy wearing them too) but I think it is hard to find a pair that are thick enough that they don’t show what’s underneath…even if it is nude colored panties. You solved that issue by wearing a shirt long enough to cover that area up…maybe I should go with that look. Does your shirt show through when you tuck it in?

HI, Miss Kitty, no these jeans are thick enough that they aren’t very see-thru at all.

LOVE this look! That top is so beautiful. I have NEVER bought white jeans. I’m too chicken to, I guess. I love how it looks but I guess I always figure I’ll look weird and yes it took me a while to get past my “southern” upbringing of when I can wear white. haha I’m making progress {I wore white wedges to church last week-gasp}.

You and I are the same size, so I am anxious to hear how the Banana Republic jeans fit you. I haven’t had luck with their slacks/jeans. I am loving Not Your Daughter’s Jeans and find them at great discount at Nordstrom Rack (although I did pay full price for two pairs recently.)

I agree with you Rhoda…that was a very poorly thought out plan by Target. I like Lily things but not enough to stay up all night or to be in line at the store in the wee hours. And like you, I have given up the Southern Rule for White after Easter and before Memorial Day. Who has time for that? I love a pretty pair of while slacks or capris..they look so crisp and cool.

I took my girls (12 and 16) to Target on Sunday morning (we live in Maryland). We got to the store at 7:40 am and the line was at least 150 people long. It moved pretty fast once the doors opened and we were in the store by 8:05. However, the only things left by the time we got inside and to a display there were only a couple of headbands and some wristlets left. No dresses, no scarves, no beach towels, no tote bags, no weekender bags. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Saw women taking entire displays of hanging clothes and throwing them in a cart, another women had a cart overflowing with beach towels. Sad that it happened this way. Oh well.

    Hi Rhoda
Not surprised by the Target planning mess up.. I live in Canada near the border and have always enjoyed going to Target so we were excited to hear Target was coming to Canada…but not so fast..We got a “Canadian” version of Target. At least according to them. What a disappointed. Poorly stocked shelves, no variety, cheap merchandise. I don’t know why they thought Canadians shopped Target in the U.S. and yet they had to change things. Well, I think all of the stores are closed now…unfortunately for all the workers, and Target had made a deal with the government about limiting losses (so I’ve heard) so I guess they’re not too upset..

Love this outfit! Took me forever to get around to wearing white jeans. About three years ago I got my first pair and now I have to wonder what it was ever like before. There are so many options with white jeans.

This outfit is perfect. You look great and it could go just about anywhere. I like white jeans because of all of the combinations one can make. As for Target, I didn’t know anything about the sale but probably would not have gone anyway. I have terrible luck both in store and online finding sizes at Target. Their clothes are really cute but they just don’t fit me. And, I am a pretty average size. But, so many of their tops are so thin that if you have even the smallest amount of muffing top it shows! LOL!

So why not buy Lily from the stores and boutiques that normally carry the line? They always run sales through out the year and I bet your shopping experience would be alot more enjoyable. Understand that discount and mass production stores usually carry the lesser quality products in aline to meet the lesser price. You look great Rhoda. I grew up on no white shoes and pants before easter and not after labor day. I guess I still abide.
