Growing up in the burbs of Atlanta (Marietta), one of my fondest memories is shopping at Lenox Square. This was way before Cumberland Mall (and for sure Town Center Mall) were ever built and Lenox Square was our maybe once a year spot for fancy shopping. 🙂 I can remember shopping for Easter shoes. One of the highlights was getting to drive down West Paces Ferry Road on our way to Lenox, passing through the “rich” neighborhood, along with the Gov-nuh’s mansion, my neck craning left and right, not wanting to miss any of those gorgeous old homes, many tucked away behind impressive gates. Such beautiful houses on that road and truly a world away from where I grew up.
Brookhaven is another stately and highly-desired old area of Atlanta, so keep reading for this feature.
Here’s another beautiful remodel from the pages of Traditional Home, (click for the whole story) that had me drooling. Atlanta designer, Amy Morris, worked with her parents on finding a smaller home in their own historic Brookhaven neighborhood when they got ready to downsize. Amy helped them complete their vision with lots of remodeling and changing things around and the result is one stunning home. Small, it is not, but beautiful it certainly is.Â
It’s described as a clapboard Colonial and I really love the outside of the house. Totally appealing to my eye, it welcomes you in. Amy and her parents.  She did a fabulous job in their new home and there were so many eye candy pics, I hardly knew where to stop. Entry way. I’m going to keep my text minimal, but if you want more details about the house, just click on that link above. Wonder if those orchids are real? I’m going to check out our Botanical Gardens Orchid show this weekend and I just might come home with one. Always wanted to try my hand at growing an orchid. Even though I probably wouldn’t paint a room this dark, it really is dramatic and pretty. The artwork just makes that wall. Love the drapes with the pretty border down the leading edge. The bedroom really draws the eye in too with the soft damask Roman shade. Gorgeous bathroom.
Check out these fixtures over the table. So unique and pretty. Formal dining room. And this kitchen is just WOW. That’s all I can say. Love, love it.
Hearth room. With not a lot of color, it’s still very appealing to me.
I think this is a back entrance of some sort. Love this shot too of the dark door and white clapboard walls.
Do you love this house too?? It certainly appeals to me.

I found myself actually getting teary eyed looking at these beautiful photos. This is an amazing house. One that I would so love to live in. The back door is so my favorite thing.
Our teens would love it.

All that gray is very depressing to me. I know that’s the “in” color, but it is just not me. Too sterile and drab and I know I’m obviously the exception here. Even though the decor was very lovely, I could not live there. Nice though that it is other’s taste, just not mine.

I love this house and I still love driving down West Paces and looking at all the beautiful historic homes too! Thank you so much for visiting my blog this week. I feel really honored by your sweet compliments! Enjoy your weekend.

I love this home! I just can’t imagine something this large being the “down-sized” home. There’s a few things that are not really “me” – I think I would need just a little more color… but, everything is just beautiful!
Love the unique light fixtures!
If those orchids aren’t real – then they’re the most realistic arrangements I’ve ever seen…

I love it all but that mud room is so appealing to me. A great place to come in after working outside and the storage is great on the wall. I dare say, the laundry room or shower is close by.

Rhoda,
I’ve been a SC lurker of your blog for a couple of years but never commented….just not a commenter (is that a word?). Anyway, I am sitting here so nostalgic for those thrilling rides down West Paces Ferry heading to Lenox Square. Growing up in Douglas County, those were my favorite shopping trips because of the route as I, too, gawked left and right and dreamed!

Rhoda,
I know this area well. We lived in Atlanta for 20 years and I worked across the street from Lenox Square. The home is beautiful and the kitchen.. oh my!

Hi Rhoda !
I too have that same issue of Traditional Home! (I spent a couple of hours drooling over the pages last night!)
How about that neo-Georgian New Jersey home that sat vacant for 30 years before the Simons’ restored it??
Great post!! Something for the eyes to behold for sure!! 🙂

More than beautiful!!! I saw it in Traditional Home, but I could look at it again and again!

Since I’m not subscribing at the moment, I’m not sure which issue this was in, since I got the pics online.
Was it a recent issue this summer that you saw it in?? I just may have to resubscribe, in spite of the stacks of magazines around my house. So many inspiring articles in there!

Love that clock in the kitchen and the coffee table!

Oh my goodness…this home is just incredible! I fell totally in love with it as soon as I saw the outside! I’ve always been drawn to this style of home, and when we built, ours is very similar (except it actually has vinyl instead of clapboard :o( ) Thank you for sharing!

Rhoda, This feature is just stunning! I especially love the neutral color palette (very close to my heart) mixed with the honest wood furniture and natural linen fabrics. The kitchen is fabulous! Love the huge clock and the they way it is hung as a center point over the counter tops. Simply timeless~ Thank You:)
Blessings,
Carol

If you’d played ‘guess where’ I would have been certain it was New England. Kitchen is magic – all those drawers!!
Becky in 'Bama says
I, too, grew up in the Marietta area…drove down those same streets – gawking.
The house is pretty – but I’m not that into the drab gray/white colors. Love me some neutrals with splashes of color. Of course, if offered the house, would NOT decline!! 🙂

So pretty! Love that kitchen. Love Amy. And how do you like those framed intaglios??? They came from my shop. I also think the frames on the b/w botanics were done by us, too. It’s always such a treat to get to see things placed in a home.

An amazing work indeed! The photos really shows the elegant work done in the house. And I agree the kitchen is to die for!

The exterior of the house is stunning. The Williamsburg style is my favorite. Being the 18th Century purist I was heart broken to read that the original trim and stair rails were removed and replaced. I would not enjoy the drab and neutral colors. Don’t get me wrong I would love this beautiful house, but I would return the interior to an 18th C look with all the colonial colors to match the beautiful 18th C Williamsburg exterior.
