Feature Friday: Well Nested Home

Hey friends and Happy Friday! I’m introducing you to a new gal who I met on Instagram. She’s not a blogger yet, but she lives in Atlanta (in the city) and has been on Instagram just since last year. I somehow saw her feed and asked if I could feature her house. Since I didn’t know much about her I asked her to introduce herself so I could introduce you to her.

Here’s Julia, with Well Nested Home!

Our home was built in 2005 and we’ve been in it for 5 years now. We’ve worked on several projects to make it more functional for us, like the 2 story foyer we closed in to make a playroom. We also added storage with diy-type built-ins. I say diy ‘type’ because we had the idea but our handyman executed.  We did built in shelves in living room using an old bookshelf our handyman trimmed out. And used IKEA cabinets to do the same in the play area and bathroom. All of this is in story highlights. I also made our in-laws hand me down dining set work for us by using chalk paint and taking off the glass doors.
I love really nice things that I can’t afford and love to find a way to make it happen for much less. I’ve sewn most, not all, of our pillows and have tweaked all the drapes, buying basic panels but adding trim, French pleats, etc.
While I had an 18-year career in television news, my favorite job was working at Ballard Designs for a year, before I had my oldest daughter. My design style is cozy, comfy, sentimental. A mix of antiques with traditional, classic and modern art.
I have a deep longing for a cozy home that provides refuge, peace and a sense of well-being for everyone in it, family and friends. I think this is a longing God created in me, to ultimately point me to my true home with Him.

I love the exterior of Julia’s home and they’ve done a lot to the inside too.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I would truly appreciate the names of paint colors on Julia’s walls. I am starting to repaint my entire house and am so confused about whites and light taupes! Also, to be even more of a bother, I would love to know where Julia’s living room rug is from as it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for (unsuccessfully). I understand if Julia doesn’t care to share, I’ve never asked these questions of anyone online before because I think it’s being too nosy. But, I just love Julia’s home and am desperate!

    • HI, Suzanne, hopefully Julia will stop by and answer questions. I’ll tell her to read these comments.

    • Hi Suzanne,
The living room paint color is called Olive Fog by Sherwin Williams but it’s discontinued. I’ve taken a pic of the paint color formula and it’s in in my story highlights. My kitchen is Canvas Tan and cabinets are Creamy both by Sherwin Williams. And bedrooms and bath is Dove’s Cry by Valspar.

My rug is a wool flatweave from Capel Rugs.

I hope this helps and thank you so much!

  2. Sherry Mullis says

Beautiful – thank you for sharing. My favorite thing is the portrait of GeorgeWashington – keeping history alive.

  3. Jean from Georgia says

I JUST HAVE TO ASK – IS THIS HOUSE IN GEORGIA? IT LOOKS SO HAPPY AND NESTED. WHEN I SAW THE PENLEY IN THE BACKGROUND AND THE DECORATING STYLE IT MADE ME THINK JULIA MUST BE A GEORGIA PEACH. VERY. VERY WELL DONE!!

    • Hey, Jean yeah I mentioned she’s in Atlanta, didn’t even know that until we started chatting. What is a Penley? She does have a really nice style!

    • Roxann in Texas says

Rhoda – a ‘Penley’ is the artist name, he painted the artwork of George Washington hanging on the wall.

    • Ok, thanks for sharing!

  4. So beautiful! I definitely need her inspiration in my Instagram feed!

  10. Lovely home, thank you for sharing it with us.

  11. I enjoyed reading Julia’s bio and how she has created such a personal, comfy and beautiful home. I appreciate how she has incorporated so many vintage pieces into her modern décor to give it a personal feel. No doubt, that year she spent working at Ballard’s paid off!

I especially love her bathroom as her walk-in shower is the same exact tiles/flooring we used when we renovated our master bath two years ago. Thank you again Rhoda for finding and guest hosting such great talents and I will definitely add Julia to my Instagram.

  12. Hi Rhoda, one of my favorites. Beautiful, unique, inviting, bright and charming. I absolutely love it. You always bring us the best. Thank you.

  13. Jane Miller says

  14. What a beautiful home. Great style, timeless. Thanks for sharing Julia with us, Rhoda.

  15. Beautiful and warm home, styled perfectly! She really knows what she is doing. I love it.

I’d also love to hear about her curtain panels and how she embellished them. They are very attractive and despite what she said, they don’t look like purchased panels, so I’d love to know how she modifies them.

    • Hi Caroline, thank you so much. I sewed trim on the panels and added French pleats on the living room panels. I’m going to do a tutorial on Instagram in the next week or two! Are you able to follow there? Thank you again!

  16. “I have a deep longing for a cozy home that provides refuge, peace and a sense of well-being for everyone in it, family and friends. I think this is a longing God created in me, to ultimately point me to my true home with Him.” She is a lady after my own heart. And she has definitley created a cozy refuge.

  17. What a beautiful home !!!! I love the Craftsman look of the exterior…. Thank you for sharing….
