Feature Friday: Sarah’s Summer House

I’m not sure if Sarah Richardson is still on TV or not, but enjoy this feature I did on her many years ago, featuring this summer home she renovated for her family in Canada. It’s a beautiful place and looks totally up to date even now!

************************

I love love designer, Sarah Richardson’s casual, but stylish and elegant way of designing a home.  That girl knows how to do it right from top to bottom and I am DVRing her recent new show, Sarah’s Summer House on HGTV, which is airing once a week, I think.

Her hubby owned this isolated summer home 17 miles offshore before they got married, that is pitched right on top of some rocks and dirt out in the middle of the sea in Canada.  They decided to turn it into a family vacation home and Sarah took us all along on the process.

Wow, did it turn out fantastic!  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a summer home like this?  It’s only accessible by boat.  Talk about getting away from it all.  You could do some relaxing here.

It has been fun tuning in every week to see the transformations Sarah and her sidekick, Tommy are doing on each room.

From painting the walls and ceiling a whitewashed look, which she totally had to talk her hubby into, it’s been a pleasure watching this pregnant mama do her thing in this cottage home.

Love the soothing colors.

Charming kid’s room.

She walked through the process of choosing fabrics and mixing them up to create layers of interest and color throughout the cottage and used mostly green and blue hues to create that beach tranquility.

Lovely colors and fabrics, I think this is a guest room.

This bathroom turned out fantastic. I love how Sarah uses flea market finds and chippy antiques to bring instant charm in a space.  This works every time and can work in our homes too.

Here’s a look at those whitewashed pine walls in the master bedroom.  Her hubby loves reds, so she conceded to bring red fabrics in the master.

The greatroom is multi-functional with seating and dining areas. Notice how she mixed up the chairs around the table for an eclectic look.  Sarah is a master at eclectic.

The kitchen episode was especially interesting, as she found those chippy blue boards that were later set into the front of the island for instant aging and vintage appeal.  Love this!   Those corbels under the island were also a flea market find which she took to the kitchen design folks and said, incorporate these.

Sarah’s style is so easy on the eyes.

I imagine her family will be whiling away some blissful summer days at this island cottage.

Didn’t that just make you breathe a sigh and dream of summer breezes in your own little island getaway?  Me too!

A girl can dream!

Have you caught any episodes of Sarah’s Summer House?  What did you think?

I’ve not been able to watch Sarah’s show lately, but I did watch her entire series of redoing the old farmhouse. I loved her creativity of reusing items, and her color combinations.

I faithfully watch every episode because it’s one of the better HGTV shows. I’m surprised how much she depends on Tommy’s opinion since she’s the master designer and he’s the assistant.

In case anyone was wondering she had her second daughter in 2008 so it looks like this segment of “Sarah” was done over 3 years ago.

I too, LOVE Sarah’s designs. She is my favorite!!! I have DVR’d every single one of her episodes. I’ve watched her decorate her own home, a country home, restore a home for resale, and now her summer home. I’ve loved every single room she has decorated! If ever the decorating gods find favor on me, my wish is to have her come to south Alabama and decorate my home. It could be titled…Sarah in the South!!!

LOVE her… & this series is a complete tie w/ the farmhouse. Maybe by the end of the season, it will be #1!

I have to repeat what one of the previous commentors said: if I could pick any designer from HGTV to come visit my house – it would definitely be Sarah!! And I REALLY want to go shopping with her at one of those outdoor antique markets… & a trip to some of those specialty shops would be nice, too!!!

I’m dreaming about a cottage on an island now…

I love Sarah Richardson’s work and have been watching her for a few years now. All her rooms are so clean, but with enough pizazz to be really beautiful. Perfect.

Rhoda! What a joy to see Sarah’s cottage home featured today. Maybe you’ll remember it was her cottage that was my inspiration for my spray painted chairs that you featured on Canada Day (eh!) July 1st 2 years ago! It continues to be the model of how I’m slowly decorating my cottage home. Love it!
