What do you get when you mix 6 design-loving girls in a cozy cottage in the NC mountains for the weekend? A really fun time!

Five of us are bloggers and one wannabe who is highly considering starting her blog (jump on in, Heidi!). We were invited by the hostess with the mostess, Angela, up to her beautifully decorated and delightful cottage in Waynesville, NC for a fun weekend outing. There was plenty of shopping, eating and shop talk with all of these decor-obsessed girls. We even got to see the Cashiers Designer Showhouse that is going on right now and wow, was that a treat.
OH, and by the way, I have been saying it all wrong all these years! Here in Atlanta, Cashiers is pronounced just like it is spelled, like the checker-out girl at the grocery store, you know that way, only plural? Well, Shannon has lived in Sylva for years and told us the way the locals say it: Cashers. We thought that was so funny and could only imagine how that got started. Renae and I joked that it had to be the way the mountain locals said it from long ago. Say it in a Country accent and that’s what you have: Cashers. 🙂

The weather was perfect, in the low-80’s or so, with much lower humidity. There was even a chill in the air early morning. It was a completely delightful weekend and we all enjoyed our getaway so much.
We also hopped over to Asheville for some fun shopping, which I’ll have to share in a later post. I’m going to save Angela’s cottage pics for a Feature Friday later this week, but take a peek at the Cashier’s Showhouse for some rustic inspiration.
The outdoor areas of the house were just delightful to see too. 
All the attention to detail was evident. The weather was so perfect, you would have never known there was a hurricane blowing through on the coast. 
This patio area was extra pretty. 
We walked inside and saw the first room to view and look at who designed this one! Charles Faudree himself. Very cool. He always has great designs. 
This small living room area was his design. 
This house is very rustic with lots of wood and stone. 
I’m not going to talk about every room, but enjoy the pics! I took a ton of them, so sit back and relax.
The above pic was peeking into the master bedroom. I didn’t get all the pics in there, but it looked out over the most gorgeous porch you have ever seen, below.
Here’s the dining room. There were a lot of people in and out so these pics aren’t the best, but you can get a pretty good idea of the size and styles that were there. Lots of rustic elements, as you can imagine in a mountain house. 
There’s Angela taking a peek at something. We had to take our shoes off or put on booties. We opted for bare feet. 🙂

The kitchen was very pretty.
This painted floor caught my eye too.
A perfectly beautiful day it was! 
Here’s the front of the house, where we sat and had lunch on the lawn. That’s my girls right in the center table. 
This interesting and unique statue was on the front lawn. We were discussing it over lunch and my curiosity got the best of me, so I had to examine it further. It’s a little girl, with a bird’s tail feathers. Very interesting, don’t you think?
They had a pretty barn set up as a shop and this neat American flag was on the big doors. It was very fitting and pretty in this setting too.
So, that was our Cashier’s Designer showhouse tour. I hope you enjoyed seeing it as much as we enjoyed being there. You can imagine all the interesting chatter all of us had over all the details. Design loving girls that we are!

Ahh! I can’t believe you got to go to the showhouse! I realllly wanted to, but didn’t make it up (to Cash-errs! ha). I absolutely love all of the rustic elements, but I think my favorites are the painted floors and the canopy twins. Beautiful!

Thanks for those pictures. I have a friend who went up, but she didn’t take pictures! Can you imagine? She did happen upon Charles F as she walked up to the house. Now she did get a picture of that! This was last Saturday, maybe you just missed him!
I love going to these designer showcases-I get the best ideas to use in my own house then-well, and here 🙂
Oh….love the show house!! Rustic with just enough touch of modern to make me dream of living in a cabin like that!! Love the view of the lake. My dream of a lakeside get-away, never mind living there year round….wow!
Loved the home pics. I have a question about the table w/the “old ?” dough bowl with the moss in it. Did you have a chance to check it out….was the moss real or the dried type. If real, was there dirt and some type of plastic liner? My husband makes a version of those and I’d love to make one for my table. Thanks for any help you can add. I love your posts and check them out daily!!
Hi, Debbie, I didn’t check out that dough bowl. There were a lot of people around and we didn’t have time to look too closely at everything. I was busy trying to take pics. 🙂

Rhoda- what a wonderful trip! We were in Highlands/Cashiers area this past June…one of my FAVORITE destinations. The showhouse photos were great. Even though I’m a “Florida Girl”, I LOVE the NC mountains…thanks for sharing your adventures.

Wow, Rhoda- what a great weekend you had!I would LOVE to walk into a room that Charles Faudree had done, and just soak it up! thanks for the wonderful pictures… what a delightful show house…. I wonder what the counter top surface was in that kitchen… did you get up close enough to know?- looks like faux wood, but is it laminate? Just curious. I would have preferred something a little more REAL… in such a natural, rustic space… the darling canopied beds, and that adorable book nook,,, the porch… and that totally impractical but delectable swing! So fab…. thanks for sharing so many terrific pictures!

Girl….what a house! And I can’t wait to see the Hostess’ house too. I an tell it will be dripping with charm just from the looks at the outside.
That house is filled with a bazillion ideas. I have saved this posting so I can come back and drool….um, I mean, study it. Thank you for sharing. I love Waynesville – its one of my favorite go-to places whenever we go to the moutons. (which is where I will be this weekend) Did you get to the old Hardware store? I have to go in for little glass bottles of ice cold Cokes and my Winter supply of sweaters, not to mention the penny candy downstairs. LOL LOVED this post. 🙂

I’m curious about the countertops: I saw someone else ask about them, too. I think they look interesting, do you know what type of surface? Even though I love the look of wood… I need “easy to maintain.”
Alice and Paula, There were so many people in that kitchen that I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the countertops. I don’t even think I touched them. Looking at the pics, I remember thinking they were wood, but now I’m not sure what they are. They almost look like concrete in these pics. Honestly, I have no idea & there is nothing about the kitchen materials in the booklet that I got.
rhoda–the countertops were actually painted formica!! They were originally forest green.

How about that?? I thought they looked a little like they might be painted formica… I know it’s hard to tell from a photo sometimes.
When I went to the Country Living Fair last year in Atlanta, Rustoleum had a demo there for their “spray paint” process to update laminate to look like granite/stone surface. For the price, it’s been the best looking alternative if new countertops are not in the budget. I’m on the hunt for something to fit my budget but not look like “Paula painted her countertops”… not too much to ask!

Hello. I’m new to the page. As a WNC native I smile at the deviation in pronunciation of Cashiers. The truth is, we mountaineers create our own way of saying things so it makes it easier to identify outsiders. *grins*
