Stealing Magnolias: Tales from a New Orleans Courtyard

{Giveaway is Closed}

Blogging has had some wonderful perks for me and one of them is that I get asked to do book reviews on beautiful books. Books that I might never come across otherwise. This new book, Stealing Magnolias: Tales from a New Orleans Courtyard, recently landed in my mailbox and it is truly a beautiful and inspiring coffee table book that I think you will love.Especially if you enjoy visiting New Orleans.  I’ve been to that historic city a handful of times and always enjoy the architecture, food (can you say beignets?), and ambiance.

Author Debra Shriver is an Alabama native, who now splits her time between New York City and a historic old home in New Orleans.  She’s an admitted Francofile, and avid photography collector, a devotee of jazz, and a passionate preservationist. Whether it’s food, gardens, decor, decoration, architecture or design, this book engages the reader to experience every element of one of the world’s most romantic cities.  Debra shares pics of her own Vieux Carre home in New Orleans that she has lovingly collected for and decorated.

Readers will find themselves enthralled by exploring a unique and lavish compilation of original works by more than twenty photographers and artists who share her vision, such as George Rodrigues (known for his Blue dog paintings)and best-selling author and “Queen of Junk” Mary Randolph Carter.

You can find copies of the book here, if you’re interested in purchasing.

I’ll be going to New Orleans again in just a week for the first time since Katrina hit.  My niece is having a wedding shower down there.  She moved there last summer, after getting a job and apartment and promptly got engaged to a guy she went to law school with and has been dating for well over a year.  Her wedding is coming up in March and she will settle with her new hubby in New Orleans.  I’ll definitely be sharing the wedding details with you too.

This truly is a beautiful book that you would be proud to own.  The editors are offering ONE of my readers the chance to enjoy your very own copy of  Stealing Magnolias (retail value $60).

All you have to do is leave a comment!  Have you been to New Orleans before and what did you enjoy MOST about this historic city?

I love the beignets and can’t wait to sit at Cafe Du Monde nibbling on those delicate treats and a creamy cup of coffee.

My husband and I took our kids to New Orleans about 1 month before Katrina hit. We were so fortunate to see it one more time before that awful storm. I adore the architecture, the people and the food (I would love to live there)! Mother’s Restaurant is one of the best places to eat…yum!

Never have been… however looked at pictures before and think there is so much french culture. The architecture and food even sound like there is a french flair! One of these years we are so going to take a vacation that direction!

I hate to admit this but I have never been to New Orleans but I would like to go especially if I could win this book! There are lots of places down South that this Northern Girl has not yet seen! Time for me to start traveling south instead of north.

I have visited New Orleans several times and one of the best resturants that I absolutely love is Bayona. Susan Spicer is the chef and she is so creative with her eclectic mix of foods. I always love the architecture of the city. It has so much history that you cannot help but fall in love. The antique stores are outstanding and what I love most is strolling through the French market and getting great deals on different items. As you said Rhoda, there is nothing better than a beignet and a fresh cup of Community coffee at Cafe Du Monde. I could go on and on about that city and love to visit whenever I get a chance.

My husband and I have gone to New Orleans several time and just love it. We always stay in a Bed and Breakfast Inn and it really captures the warmth of the Southern Hospitality. I love the homes and can’t say enough of all the wonderful food. Can’t get enough of beignets!

I visited New Orleans once and attended a craft show. Loved the creativity of the crafts. I was walking through the French Quarter. My most memorable moment was when a bouncer threw an inebriated man out of a bar. The drunk guy smashed the bouncer in the jaw. The display of violence turned my stomach. It was also my first time to eat blackened fish. I LOVED the architecture, decor, southern style, and antiques. And of course, who could leave out the humidity?

Confession** I have this book and have just begun to dig into the deliciousness of it– I lived in NO for 4 years while I was at Newcomb College and it is one of my all time favorite places to be/visit. Whomever wins this delight is one lucky reader. 🙂 If it happens to be me, I will gift it to one of NOLA friends (many in number and appreciation for this fabulous city). Thanks, Rhoda… xo Heidi @ Show Some Decor

I adore New Orleans. I lived there for several years in the 70’s and it remains one of my all time favorite places. I did visit after Katrina and it was so sad. I think more progress has been made since I was there a couple of years ago. The food is always special and the Jazz makes me smile. I would love a copy of this beautiful book. Thanks for the chance to win.

Unfortunately, the only time I have been to New Orleans there was 11 inches of snow and we were stuck in a motel room until the Sugar Bowl. I do want to go back someday.

New Orleans has such a history I think all of us have been there, either through music, southern charm, or most importantly, being touched by the heartache so many suffered during and after Catrina. New Orleans to me is what true community is, God Bless You!!! To own this book would be an honor.

I lived in New Orleans for 5 years and left after Katrina. We were so lucky not to have any major damage or lose anything, but we were still sad to leave. I think I just miss the energy and culture of the city, and especially Mardi Gras!!

I have only been to NO a couple of times and it has been quite a few years since then, it is such a vibrant city and the food is fabulous. I remember the cemeteries and all the fanfare that goes into a funeral procession there. Very unique! What a lovely book, thanks for the giveaway. One can never have too many coffee table books.
