Recently, I tried out the fresh pizza dough that Publix carries in their bakery department. Have you seen it? It’s a big ball of raw dough in a plastic bag, all ready for baking. I have made my own crust before, but for about $2.50, I like this even better than mixing my own.
We absolutely loved it! Being partial to veggies, that’s all I usually put on our pizza, so you can pile it all on and it’s a meal.
Spread the dough out and roll with a rolling pin to get it nice and flat. If you have a pizza stone, all the better. I used my rectangular one the first time and will do that again next time, but I think those stones can only be used up to 450*, that’s what I’ve read. But, that’s hot enough for pizza. I tried it this time on my cookie sheet at 500* and it stuck slightly, so back to the stone for me next time.
Add your fave pizza sauce.
I sauteed some fresh veggies in a pan to add to the pizza: spinach, onions, mushrooms and green peppers, all our favorites.
Add it all to the pizza. I also added some Kalamata olives that I love too. Those small cans come from Walmart and I try to keep them on hand for lots of things. Found the pizza sauce at Publix too, Dei Fratelli.
Add slices of fresh mozzarella and it’s ready to bake.
Out of the oven, nice and golden brown. I had some fresh tomatoes from our garden, as well as fresh basil, so I sliced those up for the top.
Can you tell it was just yummy?! Well, it totally was. This will be a favorite way to eat pizza from now on and will join our weekly menu plan. Much better than any frozen we’ve tried. I’ve tried the premade crusts too and this is even better than those to us.
Give it a try and let me know what you think! Have any of you tried it yet?
Adding to Jen’s Tasty Tuesday.
Looks delicious, Rhoda. Veggie pizza is my favorite.
Yum!! That looks delicious….think I’ll have to give it a try.
Your pizza looks oh so yummy!
Since I can’t try it over here I will have to tell my mom to check out that dough!
Boy does that look good! My husband usually makes pizza but gets his dough from Trader Joe’s. I think it’s only about $1 for a bag. Don’t quote me on the price – not sure.
Homemade pizza is the best!
Oh, that does look good. I got the ingredients for homemade pizza when we were away at the cabin but we just had too much food and it didn’t get made. I’ll have to do that sometime this week!

YUM – it looks delicious AND pretty;) That mozzarella looks delightful! For a while we were doing pizza night every Friday and it was so fun. I make Pioneer Woman’s dough recipe and sub 1/2 or 1/3 whole wheat and it always turns out wonderfully. Our grocery store always has some fresh and waiting, too, so I always have one of those in the freezer and I love that it’s such a yummy, healthy, easy dinner. I think you just inspired me to get back to our weekly pizza nights again:)
Hey, Lillian, I’ve made PW’s pizza crust too, but it makes so much you have to do 2 pizzas which I don’t always want to do. It was good though. I’m not so good with making dough, so this is so much easier to me. Wish they had wheat too!
Rhoda,
I live in Gainesville, FL (Go Gators!). The Publix nearest to me has wheat pizza dough. If you don’t see it in the case, try asking about it.
Love, Love the Publix pizza dough!!! We have so much fun with pizza night!!
Homemade pizza is one of our favorites. Those veggies look delish!
Have you tried pizza on the grill? The flavor is wonderful.
I have often thought about buying that pizza dough at Publix but just didn’t know if it would be good. Thanks for being braver than me and trying it out! Your pizza looks so yummy – next time I am in Publix I will give it a shot myself!
Jennifer
Your veggie pizza looks delicious! I miss Publix from when we lived in GA. I do use the store brand here. I do a white veggie pizza – lots and lots of sauteed spinach, garlic, caramelized red onions, feta and mozzarella cheese, and kalamata olives. Yum!!
Oh Rhoda! This looks delicioso. Sudenly, I’m getting hungry and lunch isn’t for another 5 hours.
Have a terrific day! La
We don’t have Publix here, and I haven’t noticed the dough at any of our stores, but I haven’t looked either LOL. We do homemade pizza also, and I like to make my own crust. Love whole wheat. Veggie pizza is my favorite, but no olives thankyouverymuch! I think 500 is probably too high temp – I’m pretty sure I do 425. Yes to the pizza stone! I’ve also used a large pyrex rectangular dish.
Haven’t made pizza in a while, maybe I will now – after seeing yours!

I have been using those for years, they’re wonderful, and yes you can use your stone I use mine. I have a peel too, makes it very easy. I use my own homemade sauce when I make the pizza…always a hit, yours looks yummy Rhoda !!
We recently found an organic pizza at BJ’s spinach and feta OMG it’s fantastic we keep a couple on hand in the frig.
Thanks for sharing….
Kathy 🙂
Recently, I went gluten free and I REALLY miss eating yummy pizza. Your veggie pizza looks awesome!
Rhoda, I’ve seen that dough at Publix and wondered if it was good! Thanks for trying it out for us! We make homemade pizza a lot at our house. It is soooo good! Seems a little healthier than the frozen ones, too!
I have seen that pizza dough in the bag. Now I will try it and that pizza you made looks Absolutely wonderful.

Thanks for the sweet inspiration! I’ll try it!! 🙂
My 21 yr old son told me about this dough at Publix. Kids are pretty smart sometimes. After years of shopping there I had never noticed it. I guess because its in the bakery section and try to zip through there as fast as I can! Yours pizza looks so yummy!
That’s funny, I just blogged about homemade pizza, too. 🙂
I loved the dough from Traders Joe’s until I found my favorite recipe which I shared. Love it! I wish I could convince my family to move away from the cheese and sausage pizza and be more daring, your pizza looks delicious. We like to add a spoonful of pesto to our pizza before the sauce and toppings. It’s so good that way.
Rhoda, your pizza looks fantastic! I make pizza with dough from Trader Joe’s. Furnmanos makes some diced tomatoes with oregano and garlic that is fantastic to make pizza sauce with. I add romano cheese, more garlic and some extra basil to it. I found it a Walmart and Lowe’s foods. I wholeheartedly recommend it! Sometimes I make a focaccia with pizza dough…no sauce, just herbs, romano cheese and a sprinkle of mozarrella on the dough. Then I serve it in strips with some marinara sauce. Ok, now I’m hungry!!!
I am definitely going to make your beautiful pizza for my family the next time I make pizza!
