House Renovations: Week 10, Building a Door Roof {or How Awesome is my Daddy?}

Last week was devoted entirely to Haven for me and I have been completely exhausted after a week of running like crazy, but my daddy was hard at work at the house, getting a couple more things accomplished.  I’ll do a recap on Haven on Tuesday and it was SO fabulous, I hardly have words to express it all. I’m still on a Haven high!  I did get some great sleep last night, so I’m feeling like a human being again.

But, back to the house.  So many wonderful girls from Haven asked me about the house and told me how excited they are for me and this house.   They asked me if I was bringing my mom and dad to Haven, but I didn’t get them there.  Everyone wanted to meet them, but they would have been so out of their element!

Back door before

Here’s the little back door that goes outside from my laundry room/storage area downstairs.  My daddy is one who loves to put a roof over a doorway like this.  He likes to protect doors from the elements and they definitely do last longer when protected from the weather.  So, with my Lowes Creative Ideas blogging opportunity for June, we are going to add a cover over this door.

cover over door

He went and bought lumber to get started and this was the very beginning that I snapped pics of at dusk one afternoon. That daddy of mine is so good at all of this and I’m grateful to have him.

He framed in the top and sloped a short roof.  We’ll eventually put a metal roof on top.

And here it is all framed in and almost finished.  The metal roof will go on top of this and it will all get painted out white.  Note:  we ended up using shingles and not a metal roof, which worked out great too.

Isn’t it cute?

Close up of the brackets.  We’ll add a bit more trim and then it will be done.

My daddy is so smart!

I love it, it’s so cute and will look so great when painted. Now hopefully this door will not get water damage. We had noticed that a bit of water comes in by this door when it rains, so it will be interesting to see if this stops it. Hope so!

I never showed you the finished master bedroom paint, so here is Moderate White (SW) again. I’m keeping my bedroom light and airy too and will probably keep my blue and white and add some green splashes in here.  Lots of greens and blues in this house this time around.  Love those 2 colors together.

Another thing my dad got done was tearing out the old vanity sink cabinet from in here.  This will be a great space for my antique vanity.

Can’t wait to use it!

And here’s the extra bedroom with Moderate White.

I’m loving the house so far, it is so much fun to see it come alive.  I know you all are so excited for me.  And a big shout out to Lowes for providing a giftcard for this project. That has been such a help to me to get this house finished.

We really, REALLY need new outdoor lights on our porch & garage area.
I keep threatening to take down the old and spray paint them but my husband isn’t crazy about that idea!!
    That’s what I’d do if I won!!!!

Your dad is so clever and so nice to surprise you with the cover for the door! If I won $100 I think I would spruce up my outdoor dining set with comfy cushions! Can’t wait to hear all about Haven!

Rhoda, your house is so beautiful, and I know there’s so much more to come!

If I won the Lowes giftcard I would work on a garden we are redoing along the side of our garage. The garden had been neglected when we became the owners and we had to remove alot of overgrown shrubs that couldn’t be saved. I now have some dreams to put into place and all it takes is time and money.

    Thanks Rhoda.

Your dad is so talented! It is going to look great and work well when it is painted out. Your rooms are looking so fresh now. Blues and greens are my favourites so I look forward to when you share your decorating. If I won the Lowes card I would buy trim for our porch post and some small pavers for the gate area. Thanks for the chance.

We just added a roof overhang to our upstairs balcony because we can’t even use it in the summer (Texas heat) and during the rainy season, our doors are hit with all that water. So, I’d use it to purchase outdoor ceiling fans, and electrical box (special we added wiring for to hang outdoor party lights) and a new outdoor light. We also need to powerwash/stain the balcony and buy some furniture/decor. Can’t wait to finally use the space!

I love watching your house come together. I don’t have to tell you how lucky you are to have such a helpful dad. I know you are grateful for him beyond words. If I were lucky enough to win the gift card, I’d use it for replacement panels for my patio roof. It’s not a good thing to have the rain come through.

Would work on a rolling outdoor “bed” for my grandson. I saved his baby mattress and have wanted to do this for SOOOO long. My Jack has special needs, part of which are low muscle tone, so he can’t sit or stand very long but loves being outside. Now I just take the mattress out there, slap it on the ground and voila! Instant lounging area. Would love to add a frame and some wheels so it looks like something (rather than a matress laid out on the ground – tacky, tacky).

We would use it to help buy materials for a chicken coop.

The door cover looks great! I like how he “hung” it on the wall.

If I won $100.00 gift card from Lowes I would use it to start replacing some masonite siding with Hardee board. I know it wouldn’t complete the project, but it would be a start!

I would get some raised garden beds ready for fall veggies. Your daddy is an incredible man. But then I know that you already know that!

First I must say how inspirational your parents are!! As far as the Lowe’s card, we would definitely use it to help towards the cost of the pergola we are planning to build this fall!! Love the reno’s so far. The difference in the living room alone is amazing.

Love reading about the huge efforts your parents share with you on this home renovation. (I’ve been blessed with ample help from mine, too, over the years)

Outside project with a Lowe’s card? Hmmmm – landscaping!

Hi, Rhoda, Thanks for Haven – it was awesome! Y’all did a great job putting it together. If I won, I’d use the money on a mini makeover for my back patio. Anne Boykin
