The winner is #12: Arlynn! Congrats, Arlynn, so happy for you!
This one is for all my Atlanta readers!
The Jr. League of Atlanta has a Jr. League Nearly New Shop Thrift store, which I knew nothing about until I got an email inviting me down there. I haven’t been yet, but I plan to stop in there when I get a chance. I’ve been a little busy these days.
Here’s a little bit about the Nearly New Shop:
The League:
The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc., is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
The Store:
Since opening its doors in 1949, the Junior League of Atlanta’s Nearly New Shop has served hundreds of thousands of customers, raised more than four million dollars in net revenue, and moved eight times — growing with each relocation. Throughout all the growth, the mission of The Nearly New Shop has remained the same: to offer quality merchandise and a positive Junior League image, to raise money for community projects, and to offer an interesting, fun placement for members. Proceeds from the Nearly New Shop are used to train and educate League members for effective community service, as well as to financially support projects and programs where League volunteers serve.
And here’s the good news!
They also want to offer one of my readers a $50 giveaway to come and shop in the store. How fun is that? An opportunity to spend money in a thrift store! You can imagine how far $50 might go in that store.
They are open 7 days a week too! So you can get your thrift on any day of the week. They are located on Howell Mill Road in Atlanta, so definitely on my side of town. I’ll be checking them out very soon!
You can visit their Facebook page for more information about the group and their events. And I hope all of you Atlanta girls will stop by there and visit.
You can’t have too many thrift stores now can you?
Just leave a comment telling me the best thing you’ve ever found in a thrift store. Please only comment if you are in Atlanta and can actually visit the store. Thanks!
The giveaway winner for the Southern Bloggers Conference is posted here and giveaway winner emailed.

My best thrift store find is a collection of antique jars that were perfect for my shelf in the kitchen. Can’t wait to visit this store!

Gosh, I am not sure what my best thrift store find is. I have found several items I have painted and now have a space in my home. I love the ceiling medallion I picked up for a few bucks and it’s now an expensive looking mirror. Thanks for sharing this opportunity to win and another thrift shop to visit is always a good thing!

Thanks Rhoda, I am in the area and plan to stop by. One of my favorites is MY FAVORITE PLACE on Peachtree Industrial in Atlanta. I live nearby and often stop by just to check it out.

I have practically clothed my family and furnished my home with thirft stores and garage sales. So categorizing my best find is needless to say very difficult but a standout favorite is an elaborately carved wooden $4 king sized HEADBOARD that I spray painted with Rustoleum hammered copper spray. Wow. I love that thing. I never had a headboard before that….boy did I feel fancy.

I had never thrifted until I found your blog and met you in July 2011! Every since I have been a thrifting girl! I found a Waterford ring holder that I dearly love for $1.91, new with all the stickers. Thank for hosting! What a great organization!

Can’t believe I haven’t checked this one out!! How FUN! Hmmm, I’ve had tons of great scores in thrift stores… maybe my $2 chair or 2 antique botanicals for $4 each. Or my wooden box with peacock velvet lining? Too many… 🙂
Thanks for hosting AND the TIP!

We have two 5 year olds and one 4 year old and all 3 moved up from toddler beds to twin beds at the same time. I shopped several thrift stores and got very nice sheets/mattress pads/blankets for them. It would have been very expensive to buy all new at the same time.

I’ve never heard of this one either! I find lots of little goodies but my favorite piece was $80 from Goodwill in Norcross. It is a 7 1/2 ft long cabinet that I’m using as a buffet in my dining room.

My favorite practical item from a thrift store is a wooden paper cutter that works great and was made in the USA.

I love me a good thrift store! And probably the best items I’ve ever found would have to be a gorgeous – like new condition – William Sonoma New Orleans cook book! Perfect for bringing a little of NOLA into our home in Atlanta 🙂 I keep it out on my cookbook stand all of the time, and people are always flipping through the pages, commenting on the recipes. Not to mention the kitchen inspiration it provides! This simple, inexpensive thrift store book has brought so much joy to my kitchen. Who would have thought, ha!?!? Crossing my fingers for this giveaway; I’d LOVE to plan a visit to the Jr League thrift store!

Nice name brand clothing is my favorite thing to hunt for and find but my best find so far is a 1900 Cosmos Flower Milkglass Pitcher. It was $12 and others like it are currently on sale online for $575. My thought was to sell if but I have not been able to part with it.

This brings back memories. Years ago, I was a member of the Junior League, and one year I also served as Community VP. It’s a great organization that is well organized, well run and does tons of good for the community.
