Looking Your Best: What are Your Favorite Beauty Tools?

I’m joining a few other bloggers today on the topic of looking our best.  Lord knows, we all want to  look our best, don’t we?  I sure do! Even though some days I get lazy, I do like feeling cute and dressing up in a stylish outfit and a new haircut can do wonders for my self-esteem.

Last week, I went to a brand new hair stylist who really nailed my hair, in a good way.  I have some crazy wild, unruly, THICK hair that not a lot of hair stylists can really tame.  But this new girl did it!  She gave me a great cut, flat-ironed it and I left feeling pretty darn good.  She’s got a new customer in me!   Some of you saw this pic over on my Facebook page last week.  I can’t fix it exactly like my hair stylist, but I think I came pretty close to this when I styled myself.  I need 4 arms to do it like she does, do you feel that way too?

So, what are your favorite beauty tools for hair and skin?  Let’s dish some beauty secrets!

I use hair products for frizzy hair (currently using Redken Smooth shampoo and conditioner) and usually use a hair serum and de-frizz spray.  Do you have any great hair products you’d like to share with me on taming unruly hair.  I wash my hair about 3 times a week and I don’t always flat iron it either.  With this hair style, I can wear it messy too if I want or I can tame it with the flat iron, which I usually do.

How about you?  Got any great beauty tips you’d like to share on hair or makeup?    What are your favorite beauty tools.

I love my makeup brushes and use them every day that I put on makeup.  And I love my Bare Minerals makeup too.  I also love Olay’s Filling & Sealing cream in a tube before I put on my mineral makeup.  I feel like it’s spackle for the face! 🙂

I’m joining some other bloggers on this topic over at Blogher.com and would love for you to stop by there and leave your comments too.    There’s a lot of great beauty tool tips shared.   And there’s a Life Well Lived sweepstakes going on as well that you can sign up for.

I’m not getting paid for this, but thought it was a fun topic to talk about!

I really like the Redkin Glass product. It’s a serum that works well to help friz and makes my blowdry smoother. I put about 5 drops through my hair, avoiding the scalp before I dry… and then I put a bit for shine on my ends when I am done.

I love your new hair cut! The thing I can’t do without is olive oil. I put a drop on my palms and rub them together, then pat my hands on my face while it’s damp, then put on my usual day or night cream. It does wonders for aging skin and feels wonderful.

Oh boy! I can’t wait to read what your followers have to share!
My hair has thinned and changed texture as I’ve aged. I am a natural blonde .. tried keeping it that way until I realized it was a losing battle. Hundreds of dollars with the best colorists … washed out in two shampoos! Now I relish in my Emmy Lou Harris/Helen Mirren hair. I use Bumble & Bumble thickening spray after I shampoo which helps, I semi-dry with blower, scrunch and air dry for a tousled fun look. My hair is almost shoulder length, layered, bangs (which cover a few skin cancer scars.) I use a moisturizer with 10% glycolic acid every other night! It works! Makeup is simple, I tend to buy several brands and mix my own. I also love the dry minerals. I am 70 years old and feel 50! (well … except for the little aches and pains most 70-year old folks feel.)

You are so beautiful and I love your hair style! I’m going to get my hair cut tomorrow and will try to describe your style to the lady that cuts my hair. You can see a photo of me on my blog today. My hair is a lot like yours but feels too heavy right now! I wear Bare Minerals make up, too! I would love to try the cream you mentioned. I’m older than you…but I like to look good! heehee! ♥

I didn’t leave a tip…but here’s one of my favorite products for every day! I use Vaseline Lip therapy….it keeps your lips soft and gives them just a little shine. 97 cents at Walmart and only ONE ingredient! White Petrolatum, perfect for sensitive skin!

Your look gorgeous with your new haircut. I love how it feels after I have my hair blown out by a professional! I can never get it quite right myself and I have very thick, curly hair. I should try some of the products you use…I rely on my straightener too much and that’s not good.

For make up, I go really light handed with it unless it is a party or event. Just powder {Smashbox or Laura Mercier}, eyeliner {the best is Maybelline Unstoppable}, and lip gloss. I wish I could try some of the Olay products but my skin is very fair and sensitive, so I stick with Aveeno soap and moisturizer.

    Very fun post, Rhoda!

    XO,
    Jane

I love your new doo Rhoda! It really looks so pretty and soft on you. My favorite beauty tool is the curling iron, I have been going for the 80’s feather cut and style LOL! Need my curling iron to achieve that.

AMAZING NEW DO….. You always look so stylish and gorgeous in all your pics…. The new hair cut is just fabulous… very complimentary!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

The curling iron is my absolute favorite tool….. My hair is not that thick so I never moved over to the flat iron…. thought about going back in time and using the electric curlers again though… 🙂

That’s a great new ‘do. I don’t think I could be without the crazy amount of moisturizer I put on each day. I have always been crazy about taking care of my skin but since I turned 40 and had a baby who rarely sleeps I don’t even want to think what I’d look like. EEK!

    Cute new do!
I’ve recently discovered the Infinity rotating airbrush by Conair (I think) and the Instyler (Instyler.com) rotating curling iron. Both can be found on youtube to give an idea of what they can do. I was going to keep only one because they are a little pricey but love them both so much that I’m keeping both. Each leaves hair w/body, soft, silky and w/the professional results your stylist achieves. They’re amazing!

PS…Instyler has a good offer on their site, and Ulta offers 20% coupon and free shipping.

I love your hairstyle! I have thick, wavy hair that tends to frizz in my humid climate. I’m a slave to the flatiron. I like the L’oreal EverPure line. They have a smoothing shampoo and conditioner. Before I blow dry my hair I use Moroccan oil. It really helps!

Rhoda, your hair looks absolutely fabulous!!!! I must say, you look HOT! 10 years younger… at least. I’m still trying to find a new stylist in my new city. That has to be one of the hardest things about moving.

Love you new style! My sister gave me an Instyler for Christmas. That’s the flat iron/curling iron you may have seen on QVC. The brush and curling iron are one and it twirls your hair. Since I have very fine hair I thought it would never work but it’s the BEST thing I’ve ever used. It has given my hair body and is so easy to do. It would work well with your new style. I almost didn’t recognize you woman! That’s a cute cut and it looks good on you. I couldn’t live without my Chi iron…you know I have that thick hair too.
