Magical Christmas Tree

I’m finished with all the Christmas decorating I’m going to do this year and putting up my tabletop tree in the living room was part of the process.  This poor little tree has seen better days and even though it’s a prelit, it’s not cooperating anymore, so I think it’s going to have to go bye-bye after this season.  I’m not sure any of the prelit strands survived and I had to add more lights and oh, how irritating that is.  To string lights on a prelit tree!

But, it’s beautiful now and shining in the living room, so I’m ready to celebrate the season.  My girlfriends party is Friday night and I can’t wait for them all to come over and celebrate with me in the new house.  Fun! I will definitely take some pics and share it with y’all.

coming in the foyer

Check it out!  Coming in my foyer, you can see I’ve been a little bit busy with a few new things there.  My happy and tropical door is painted Annie Sloan’s Florence and I’m really digging it with the turquoise houndstooth rug I found on Joss and Main (I think this is my rug, it’s a flat weave wool & was on 1/2 price from Joss and Main that day).

Sometimes we just need a little color going on.

living room at Christmas

Big view of the living room from upstairs, I am not doing a big tree, but opted for 3 table top trees and I really like the simplicity.  I may  never do another big tree again!

Foyer table

Coming in the foyer from the front door, the tree is right at the top of the stairs in the window.  Notice my Merry Christmas blocks up top on the mirror.

mercury glass vignette

I love decorating my foyer table for the seasons and this one got it all gussied up as well.  Love the shimmer and glimmer of mercury glass and my growing collection takes up the whole tabletop.  All I did was add a few fresh greens in there for color and texture and a little pine scent.

Mercury glass

Nothing prettier than shiny silver reflecting in a mirror with a lit tree in the background.  Ahhh, Christmas, I love it!

silver ornaments

Piling pretty ornaments on a silver tray is about as easy as it gets.

mirror and tree

One more close up night shot.

Little tree

The little tree is tucked here by the windows and I used gold, bronze and white this year.  I found that white ceramic planter at a thriftstore this year and put it to use as a tree holder.

tree up close

I have plenty of ornaments to fill it up with sparkle.

Tree topper

Love how the ornaments play off my Ikat fabric on the windows and I love poking those cascading picks in the top of my tree for some extra pizazz, like the feathers and glittery fronds.

Flying Santa

Flying Santa I’ve had for a few years.

Fireplace rock

Since I don’t have a mantel at the moment to decorate with Christmas cheer, I added some fun to my boxwood wreath by stringing some aqua garland and hanging ornaments from it.  Cute!

Lantern

My lantern got an electric candle, greenery, white balls and pinecones.

Joy

JOY fits nicely on top of one column.

Tree at night

One more night shot of the glowing tree and I’ll wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

turquoise ornaments under glass

I hope it is Merry and Bright and filled with all sorts of magical memories for you too.   One more shot of the mercury glass at night.  I got the Merry Christmas glitter sign to sit on the candlestick and it looks so pretty.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to stop by my blog and read along this year.  It has been quite a thrilling year for me and I’m so, so happy to be in my new house, decorating for Christmas and counting my blessings!

Today is the Christmas Tree link party at Sarah’s and our last party of the year.  Hope you’ll join in and link up your Christmas tree too. It’s so much fun to see all the inspiration and creativity in blogland and it’s positively exploding this year.

Rhoda, Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family. One of the posters called your Dad, Father Christmas, and I just love that!! You are so, so fortunate to still have both your parents and that they are in good health and so vibrant.

I LOVE your decor this year….simpler but stunning. And if you had said you painted the front door Florence I would have gone yuck…but that’s why your the decorator and I’m not…I love it!! What a statement the door and rug make, a fun and youthful person lives here…

Great job Rhoda, I wish you the best for 2013! Mary

Donna, the outside is still black, but I wanted that pop of turquoise inside. You can definitely do different colors inside and out.

You truly have been blessed by the Lord this year. How wonderful to still have your parents and to have them so active in your life. I have enjoyed reading your blog this year and to see the progress in your new home. I loved the blog with your kitchen decor. I tried to order the cloche from Wayfair and was unable to find it. Is there a particular code I should use? I can relate to your house project as we bought a house that had to be gutted. We even had to replace the plywood base to all the floors before we could put down new hardwoods. We replaced the whole kitchen and had to put in all new bathrooms. We had a dozen bats in our attic and snakes in our porch roof. We had them removed and set free into the woods. However, like you, we now sit back and count our blessings. May the Lord continue to bless you and your lovely parents in the year to come with good health and drawing y’all closer to Him from whom all blessings flow.

love, love , love the Mercury glass and will be looking for it at my favorite thrift stores thru the next year. I have a “Tiffany” color small pre-lit tree and they will be fabulous surrounding it (all for 2013). Thank you for this blog, I have learned so much and applied those ideas to our new bought, old home. LOVE the color of your front door. I may be changing the colors in my den from red and sage to blues!! Have a blessed Christmas ………He is so Good!!!

I am new to the blog world and I am really enjoying how diyers share their homes. But, yours has really been inspiring. My parents are both gone and they were such an important part of my life and my projects, just as yours. You have had struggles yet you turned it around and make a living doing what you love and have created a beautiful home. I am so proud of you. My mother’s favorite saying was, “Just do It” (long before Nike) and you “did it”. Merry Christmas!

What a beautiful foyer and living area. Love the mercury glass and greenery! Your Ikat curtains caught my eye as I am looking for new window treatments for our dining and great rooms. They are lovely and fit right in with your tastefully decorated home!

    Hi Rhoda!!

You place looks amazing!!!!! Your foyer is so beautiful. I love the color of your door and the rug goes perfect with it. I call the color my Momma Mia Turquoise, because in the movie Momma Mia, the rooms and buildings are that color.

Your taste in decorating is just gorgeous!!

Oh another thing…….your home looks beautiful with the Christmas sparkle here, there, everywhere, lots of work, I know but oh so rewarding…as I looked closely…question, what is that hanging above your window at foyer, is it iron, wood, it frames the top of your foyer window so nicely and I am looking for something creative to do over a picture and or door way between living room and dining room, any ideas, thank you…

Hi, Delores, that is ironwork over my windows. I promise I’ll show that later on. I had them in my old house over the windows in my living room.

Everything looks beautiful! I like your tree, so pretty. We are doing a smaller tree this year, 4 ft, our other tree just seems overwhelming. (so lazy!?)
You have accomplished much this year, Ms. Rhoda, God has blessed you. Blessings Paula Lusk
