Master Bedroom Progress

Hey, there!  Hope you all are having a fun weekend.  We’re working on that guest bath and making progress on it.  Most of the tile work is done and Mark worked on the beadboard paneling in there and we will continue to work on the finishing in the next couple of weeks. It’s looking great and we are very happy with it!

I’ve been working on several projects around here and finally got staples for the stapler so that I could get my newly painted bench recovered with new fabric.  I got this fabric from Fabric and Fringe here in Marietta and also bought fabric for the Euro shams.  I’ve decided intead of hiring that one out, I’m going to sew them myself.  My mama is a good seamstress and she is going to help guide me through the process, so as soon as the bathroom project is done, I’m going to go over and sew those shams.  I’ll keep you posted on that and share the post.  How hard can it be, straight seams, right?

Master Bedroom Progress

In the meantime, I got the vanity bench recovered and it looks so pretty.

Master Bedroom Progress

Isn’t it pretty?

I really love how this turned out and it will be really fun to get this room complete.  Still have a ways to go, but making progress, a little at a time.

Master Bedroom Progress

I just loved this fabric when I saw it with all those hues of blue and it bring out all the colors in the rug.

Master Bedroom Progress

I added a faux succulent arrangement on top of the chest of drawers and it helps to disguise the thermostat while being low so it doesn’t get in the way of the pictures

Master Bedroom Progress

I’ve got the fabric ready to sew and my mama will be a good tutor for these.  She has sewed so many things for me over the years, from clothes to drapes and pillows.

Master Bedroom Progress

This Charlotte Terrell print will hang somewhere in our master bedroom, we’ll determine the best place after it’s all done.

Master Bedroom Progress

And I’m pretty sure these are the final fabrics that are going in here.  The geometric will be Euro shams and the solid to the left, I’m pretty sure will be my drapery panels at least in the bedroom.  I haven’t bought this fabric yet, but this is my main contender. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll do a different fabric in the sitting room.  I might!  The herringbone fabric is the fabric on our Bernhardt chairs in the sitting room.

So that’s a look at progress in the master!  I hope you enoy seeing these posts too, since it takes awhile (and money!) to finish a room so it doesn’t all happen overnight.  I have painting to do in the sitting room and we may do a wall treatment on the master bedroom headboard.  So, as we move along and get things finished, I’ll continue to keep y’all updated.  I think sharing the journey is a good idea too and thought you all might like that.

On another note, have you ever in your life heard of this?  A light came on in my brand new car, so I took it by the dealer to check it out.  Since we’ve been doing the bathroom renovation, I’ve had to park in the driveway to make room for all the supplies in the garage.  In the 10 days or so that it’s been outside, this happened.  The guy at the dealership came back as I was in the waiting room and showed me a picture of a big pile of leaves and what looked like insulation mixed together in a big pile on top of my engine. They had to take the cover off to see all of this.  It’s a rats nest!  Is that the most insane thing you’ve ever heard of?  I’m taking my car in tomorrow to get it all checked out and find out how much damage has been done. I’m hoping it’s minimal, but what an ordeal. My insurance adjuster said he’s seen it many times.

Why me?  Ugh……

Thank you, Lauren, it’s all starting to come together and I’m loving it all so far. And yes, my mama will enjoy helping me with this, she was happy to when I asked her about it. She’s always sewed for me, but just can’t anymore.

After learning the hard way what squirrels can do to an attic, it doesn’t surprise me what their cousins, the rats and mice, can do to a car. Nothing would surprise anymore what those varmits can do!

Squirrels do the same thing under the hood in the winter. They are trying to stay warm. They tore up the wiring in my neighbors car three times.

Rhoda, I love the blues in your bedroom and your fabric choices. In the past you have mentioned where you and your sister have had furniture reupholstered. Will you please share that information again? I have two French arm chairs and an ottoman to recover .

HI, Kathy, sure my sister used Glaber Upholstery here in Marietta and he did a great job for her. One of my friend’s mom used them too and was very happy as well. I’m planning to take my living room sofa there too.

Ive read about this happening but it’s never happened to me. Squirrels will do that also! Destructive little creatures! Sorry it happened to you though.
Your fabric choices are beautiful and can’t wait to see the finished room!

Rhoda…the blues look great together in your master bedroom. I am partial to blue as well. My neighbor had the same problem with mice chewing her wiring when she left her car parked outside while she had some projects going in her garage. Hope yours is a one time occurrence. Had a weird occurrence today when we got up there was a noise coming from upstairs. Turned out the paper shredder I had used yesterday had come back on and was running all night and could have caused a fire. Be safe and unplug your shredder if it has an auto on shred mode. Mine wasn’t running when I left the room but I had left it on auto on mode and some time later it came back on.

Carla, that’s scary! I do have a paper shredder but there’s not an auto button.

Loving the blues you selected. It’s going to be so pretty. I don’t even want to think about critters out here in the country! No telling what would live under my hood if I parked outside! Hope you caught it in time before any damage. Can’t wait to see the new bathroom.

    Hi Rhoda,
The stool looks beautiful! I love all the colors you have chosen for the Master. It will look so nice and serene when it is finished.
As far as your car, my Mother-in-Law had the same issue with mice in her car. They chewed through hoses and lines and made an awful mess. I had never heard of it either. I live in a very rural area. I do park in the garage but my husband, son and daughter-in-law park outside and have never had an issue. Not sure why you are having the problem cause it looks like you live in a neighborhood (I don’t and neither does my MIL). Hope everything gets fixed with no major problems. 🙁

Hi, Lynda, we have lots of woods right behind us, so that’s where they are coming from. Never thought about it being a problem though. And my husband drives my old car to work and it’s been sitting in the driveway all these months and the dumb things picked MY new car.

Love the blues, Rhoda. Can’t wait to see what you do to the headboard wall! We had squirrels chew through the gas line in my husbands truck a couple of years ago. We would see them run from under the truck when we would pull in the drive way or walk outside. Cost $500. To have it fixed. We got an outside cat and no more squirrel mishaps! Hope you damage is minimal!

Your choices are gorgeous and go so well together. Isn’t it fun to do all the planning. We built our retirement home a year and half ago and I went through many of the same decisions you are doing now. It was so good to be able to design our space just for us! I’m glad we’re on the other side now, it was a bit overwhelming. As for the rats’ nest, oh my! Besides any damage, I hope they remove any ‘occupants’ so you aren’t driving along and notice a tag-a-Long, I’d die!!

Rhoda: the blue shades you have chosen for your master bedroom are really ‘speaking to me.’ Love your coordinating fabrics. I’ve never had a knack for that.

As for rats in the engine: years ago, I bought a low-mileage Cadillac from a little old lady who had quit driving the car. Seems she had stored it in her garage. Unfortunately, at some point, rats, mice, squirrels, whatever, had found a nice home in that car’s engine and chewed the wiring – which took a while to unravel. Long story short – we kept having the battery checked and rechecked and had multiple starting difficulties (meaning I was stranded more than once). It was after the third trip to Cadillac that the ‘gnawing’ was discovered – when the mechanic who was experienced in these issues – knew where to look and figured it out – and that was about an $800 fix. I know they are ‘just-a looking for a home’ – but sheesh!

Hey, Becky, so many people have heard of this too, so it’s not that uncommon. Such a shocker to me though in my brand new car. Rats disgust me!

All your choices are gorgeous and very serene for your bedroom. Pillow shams are not difficult to make. Will you trim them out? Invisible zippers are pretty easy to put in also. I’ve never heard of a rats’ nest on an engine. Hope there is no damage to your car.

Hi, Donna, right now I think I’ll just leave them plain and do square pillows. I’m not going to put in zippers since these are stationary pillows and won’t get used, they’re just for looks.

Your bedroom is so pretty & I will enjoy seeing the progress as you work on it. Blue is a nice calming color and will be nice for a bedroom. I bet you are feeling a little creepy driving your car & wondering if a rat could be hiding somewhere. That’s too gross to even think about! Who would have ever thought they could build a nest in an engine. Sure hope there isn’t any damage to your new car!
