One of My Best Thrifted Finds!

We’re back! I can’t wait to catch up with you all on our cruise. It was such a fun trip! We are currently jet lagged and not feeling the best. Mark took off work Monday so he could have an extra day to recuperate and we definitely need it. I somehow caught a cold between leaving Amsterdam to home, so I’m trying to knock that out too. I’ve got SO many pics to share with you all and I think I’ll divide the trip into blocks so I can cover it all, so expect at least 3 or 4 posts from the cruise in the next few weeks!

In the meantime, I’ve got something I’ve been dying to share with y’all!

You all know how much I love thrifting if you’ve followed me for awhile. There’s nothing more thrilling to me than finding a really good deal out there, second hand thrifty finds are my happy place, especially when I score something that’s valuable and I don’t even know it until I get home. That happened recently when I was least expecting it, so I can’t wait to share my latest thrifty find with you.

I was at my parents one day during the week when we were doing a lunch with the parents. Mom had several bags of clothes and things that she wanted to donate to the thrift store, so I loaded them in the back of my car and took them to America’s Thriftstore on Canton Hwy. If you’re in this area, you probably know it.

I dropped off the donations and decided, I’m here why not look inside and just see what’s there. I love to browse thriftstores when I get a chance just to see what’s there and if anything jumps out at me.

Something definitely jumped out at me this time!

As I was strolling through the furniture, there were several coffee tables lined up. I spotted this one and couldn’t get over there fast enough! This is what I shared on my Instagram stories when I spotted this gorgeous brass table. I had already taken the glass top off it so I could look at it closer at this point.

I knew it was expensive looking. The details on the feet and the brass were stunning. The beveled glass top was very heavy. It was marked $20! Sold! I grabbed it, found someone and told them immediately I’d take it and they hauled it to the front for me so I could pay and get it in my car. I knew I had found something special, but didn’t know at the time just how special it was.

Before I could even get home and barely get it unloaded, someone had shared this on my Instagram messages.

I had no idea what I had found! I didn’t know the brand LaBarge or that it was vintage from the 70’s, Hollywood Regency, none of that. But I was totally ecstatic to see what a treasure I had found for $20 at the thriftstore!

Upon further research online, I found this coffee table on 1st Dibs, a larger size listed for $2,850!! Can you believe that? I sure couldn’t! I got that thrilling rush of the hunt, finding that treasure that I have had over the years. I haven’t been able to shop for treasures that much since I have a full house now, so this score made me SO happy.

I had wanted to change out the coffee table in the living room for awhile now. Mark had already mentioned that he thought I should get a smaller coffee table and I had in my mind a brass style with glass top to keep it light in there. I had looked around a bit, but hadn’t pulled the trigger on anything I saw. I figured I’d find something eventually.

Here’s the old coffee table, a Pier One glass top table that I have had for probably 15 years now. I loved it and it’s very heavy and substantial and not a really expensive table at all. But it was a little too big in this smallish space. The room really needed something smaller.

My rug is from Rugs USA and you can find it here if you’re interested.

And now I have it in there, looking so pretty! I am absolutely thrilled with this find, I can’t tell you how much I love it.

It’s exactly what I would have picked if I had hand picked something and there it was waiting for me in the thriftstore for $20! Those feet. Those hoof feet made my heart pitter-patter big time.

It’s such a gorgeous petite size and perfect for this room.

It holds my tray and books just fine.

It’s about 2 or 3 inches lower than the other one, but just perfect.

It’s a great piece in here and exactly what I had envisioned for this space.

This was definitely a God wink day for sure! Finding such a treasure at the thriftstore on that particular day. I feel sure it wouldn’t have lasted long. Someone would have snatched it up in a minute, but it was meant for me to find it and I’m so glad I listened to that little voice that said, go in and see what’s there!

It was my most fortunate day for sure! I’ll definitely treasure this one forever!

That makes me so happy for you! I go months between stops in the local thrift stores – because when I DO go – all I see are racks and racks of used ‘smelly’ clothing. Discouraging. BUT THIS… thrift store find of the year. You go girl! 🙂

    • Thank you, Becky! Yep, I’ve had my share of no treasures, but sometimes when you least expect it…BAM! It’s there!

  2. Welcome home! I really enjoyed trailing around after you and Mark on your Instagram stories! I love that coffee table, especially those feet. And the fact that you scored a real treasure, wow! My sister and I found a beautiful chandelier at a thrift store in Cashiers, NC. It was perfect for her French inspired kitchen renovation. She paid $200 for it and found out later it was worth several thousand on 1stDibs. My best find was a brand new purse at a Goodwill in Sarasota, FL. It still had tags on it and those little silica gel packs inside. I paid $3.00 and looked it up at home…worth $1000.00. If any of your dear readers are visiting the Ringling museum in Sarasota, put that Goodwill on your tour, it’s just down the street. Lots of older millionaires there, and the children just haul all their belongings to the Goodwill (because Millennials want new stuff from Ikea instead of antiques or family treasures 🤷‍♀️).

    • Hi, Roxanne, I always enjoy your perspective and you nailed it on this one! What a deal for you on that purse. That sounds like a great Goodwill!

I have shopped that Goodwill in Sarasota and several other thrift stores there. They do have great thrift stores in Sarasota!!

  3. Rhoda, great find, it looks wonderful in your room ! !

  4. I fell in love with your blog way back when you lived in Alabama! My favorite blogs was when you would tell us about your thrifty finds and garage sales then you showed us how you would decorate with them! I was thrilled about this find…all because you were helping your mom by taking her donations to this place! You’ve always had a great eye for style! I’m so happy for you and this smaller coffee table for your living room! It’s perfect!

  5. I love that coffee table and WHAT A DEAL!!! It’s perfect in it’s new home!

Welcome home!! Can’t wait for posts about your amazing trip. Love the table, just wish you would edit items. Such a beautiful table and all I see is the stuff you have on it. Just the plant and a couple of books would really show it off. Also, why do you position the books facing the room? I have never seen them angled that way.

  7. Fantastic find! You have such a great eye. It looks great in the living room.

  8. Rhoda,
When I saw your thrift store find I couldn’t believe it! I have the same exact vintage Hollywood Regency Labarge coffee table. I found mine at a consignment shop about 3 years ago. My Mom was with me that day and when I spotted it I knew it was vintage but like you didn’t realize that they were so valuable until I looked at them on websites like 1st Dibs, Charish and Ebay. I paid $60.00 for mine which was still a great find but $20.00 is the deal of the century!

What I love about it is that because its smaller and lower than most newer coffee tables its the perfect clearance for our reclining sofa and doesn’t hit the table when reclined. I just love how thick and heavy the glass top is and you really cant find that quality in furniture today. Yours looks beautiful with your sofa and I love the way you have it styled. No, you don’t hit the jackpot everytime you walk into a Goodwill or thrift store but I have made some great scores.

Glad you had a wonderful trip and cant wait to see all the pictures once you get rested and caught up.

    • HI, Teresa, oh how exciting for you too! I’m so glad you found one as well. It totally made my year to find this thing, I love it so much and it was the perfect finishing touch in my living room. You just never know what you’ll find out there thrifting!

    • I know right! I found some vintage glass top faux bamboo end tables last week at a consignment store and my husband lacquered them in a high gloss white. I have found lots of vintage 60s/70s brassware at Goodwill’s along with mid-century glassware and furniture.

  9. Welcome home, Rhoda! I look forward to your cruise posts … when you’re feeling better. What a great thrifty find! It looks perfect for your pretty space. I’d love to become a better thrifter and this is certainly encouragement. xo

I love that it’s SUCH a deal…and that you loved it before you even knew ‘what’ it was! It looks so nice in there. I noticed that it mimics the ’roundness’ of the light on the ceiling and the blue and white piece at this end of the sofa, which makes the flow even better. Happy with you for your find!!

  11. Rhoda~

What a wonderful vacation !! You look adorable and so slim !! lucky You !!
My friend and I just got back from a childhood dream of staying at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, and you would have laughed at the suitcase my friend packed for a 4 day trip!! It was huge, about took up the whole trunk !! haha.

Wow to your table find, what a score for YOU !!! Beautiful !! I never have such luck .

Thank you for sharing your family stories and pictures, the little girls are growing so fast, and so darn cute! I bet your sister looks forward to moving closer to them soon.! I hope your parents are doing great!

    Have a joyful week!

    • Thank you, Paula, I used to overpack but have gotten so much better at it. That does sound like a dream vacation.

  12. My friend recommended your blog and I look forward to each post. LOVE the coffee table find at the thrift store. Also, would like to know where you found your blue rug?
My living room is very similar to yours with a white couch and cream color cabinet.

  13. BEAUTIFUL SCORE!!!! It looks fantastic!

  14. Thank you Rhoda!!

  15. So now if you sell your old coffee table your new score would be free! Love it in the room, it’s so much lighter and works perfectly for the space!

    • Yes, Susan, I’ve got to get it listed on one of those Facebook groups and hopefully get it sold!

  16. If you ever decide you’d prefer the table a few inches higher, you could try finding an framed oval mirror in the right size/shape/depth to layer under the glass top and raise it up a few inches
