Save the Date: I wanted to give you all a heads up if you live in Atlanta. I’m having an Open House!! Yay, I know, I’m excited to open my doors to all of you who live in the area and want to stop by. Maybe I’m crazy to do this, but it just seems appropriate since you’ve all cheered me on for all these months on the house. So, mark your calendars for Saturday, January 26th from about 1-5 for the Open House and I’ll be posting about it again later too to remind you, just wanted you all to save the date.
How’s your New Year going so far?
I’m still getting geared up for the new year and working on getting organized and straightened up around this place. Still have a few more things to get finished and putting the runners on my stairs is one of them. This month, I’m getting that done! I just finished the stenciled drapes in my bedroom and I can’t wait to show you that, hopefully next week.
I have a bunch of decluttering to do (you too?) and moving will just make that more evident at all the stuff you need to get rid of or find a place for.
So, I’m sharing some fun inspiration pics today of painted floors. Do you love them or not? When we were fixing this house up, I considered doing a fun paint treatment for about a week on the old wood floors that were originally in the kitchen and dining room, but I quickly realized that wouldn’t really be the look I wanted for the long haul and getting the entire house done in the same hardwoods made the flow of this house so much more appealing.
But, if I had a room of old wood that I was trying to salvage, I would totally paint them! Check out these inspiration pics and you’ll see what I mean.

I love this runner and now can’t wait to get busy and put my runners down. They are going to be so pretty.

I’ve always been a sucker for diamonds like this and painted black and white diamonds in my old screened porch in GA many moons ago. And I have always loved painted plank floors.

So, for your viewing pleasure, here are a few more painted floors I found around the web. This one is pretty cool too. Aren’t these fun?
(via Row House Nest)
This one is simple and cottagey. Love it! Those diamonds draw me in every time. Have loved them for years and will more than likely paint the planks on my porch in a diamond pattern this spring.

This Chevron is really cool too, but you might get tired of it quicker.

Check out what this family did with their old wood floors. Very cute and so colorful! That would be a happy room.
(via Bungalow Jax)
This kitchen is beautiful with the cabinets and those pretty diamond floors. Love, love it. You can do diamonds in any color and it’s gorgeous!
(via Country Living)
More cottage feel with aqua blue and white. Lovely!
(via Splendid Design)
This would be a good transition for a dark wood floor if you could do a pattern with stain. This one would be more tricky than paint, but very eye-catching.
(via My Home Ideas)
Here’s another one on that same vein. Love the ebony squares mixed with stained wood.
(via Area Fare Home)
And is one more bright and happy lime green and white painted floor. How cute is this?!
I totally think it’s a great solution when you have old floors that you need to do something with.
What do you think? Would you paint wood floors in an area to make them last longer?
In other news, I’m going to be on another radio show today, Radio Sandy Springs and I’ll be chatting, along with my friends, Heather, and Hometalk, with Paisley McDonald all about home decorating and how Hometalk fits in with this niche. At Home with Paisley is a one hour show all about home decor, organization, renovation, and design. If you’re interested, you can listen LIVE from 3-4 PM EST. at this link or listen later here.
Would love to have you listen in!

Love the photos! I already have a board on Pinterest with painted wood floors and only had one of the one’s you’ve included. We have a 65 year old house with wood floors throughout. Most are in fair to good condition, but our kitchen has about 5 layers of various flooring on it. Since money is a big issue, I have been wanting to rip the floor up and clean up the wood underneath and paint them. I believe that is the cheapest solution we can find for them. I love the farmhouse look, so painted floors would definitely lend to that look.
Thanks so much for the inspiration!

Hi Rhoda,
How fun to have an open house…I can’t come, but I’m sure you will blog the party! I like painted floor if they are light in color – I don’t know if I would like all that pattern on the floor in dark colors. Like with the chevron – maybe I’d just get tired of it quickly.

Love the idea of an Open House! It has been so fun watching you transform your home. I’ve marked my calendar!

I recently painted the floors in our kitchen because of the reason you mentioned — we were trying to salvage our original wood floors. The original wood in the rest of the house is GORGEOUS, but in the kitchen it was pretty damaged. So we did a fun painted design to keep the “look” of the floors flowing throughout the house — it turned out beautiful! I was really hesitant, but now I’m glad we painted them 🙂

Rhoda, I wish I lived in your area (with all of the northern snow I REALLY wished I lived in your area) so I come visit your open house. I have a guest room with wooden floors that have a chipped polyurethane finish over an already stained and scratched floor. I go between thinking what the heck, try it or thinking you will be so sorry. Paint or carpet? I have only pondered for 2 years maybe I need to give it a little more time.

WOW…maybe I’ll finally get to meet you and see your beautiful home in person. I’m putting the date on my calendar. We live about 5 hours from you, but the drive would be so worth it. Looking forward to it. Thanks for having the Open House for all of us.

Hello Rhoda and Happy New Year!!
Ok…..I’m just going to be honest here. Am I really the only one who thinks opening your home, which you live in alone, to anyone who reads or knows of your blog, is not the safest idea?
I showed this post to my Ret. Houston Det./Federal Agent husband and he about freaked. Please reconsider for your own safety. You have lovely readers and in a perfect world should have no worries, but this is not a perfect world.
Just trying to keep it real here and I m very surprised no one else shares my concern.
You are a sweet and kind lady Rhoda and I would hate for anything bad to happen to you. Be safe my friend.
Kindly,
Janet xox

Janet, I saw your comment and I totally agree with you. Very scary thing to do. But, maybe, Rhoda, you have a way of vetting people before you give out your address? In any case, I do love your new home and what you have done to it.
Rhoda says
Hi, Janet, thank you for being concerned. I know it might be a little crazy, but I do think I can figure out a way to make sure it’s safe. Don’t worry, I won’t be posting my address on my blog, but will talk to people via email and phone and determine if they are truly blog readers. I opened it up for people to come and help us paint and had the nicest ladies show up and have never had anything scary happen, but I know we can’t be too careful these days. I promise I’ll make it as safe as I possibly can. There will be tons of people here helping me that day and lots of folks around and I’ll do my best to prescreen everyone.

My husband actually suggested we paint our wood kitchen floor which needs re-finishing. He saw a painted wooden floor in a business and really liked it. I was shocked that he like it,but think its a wonderful idea. Wish I could come to your open house!

Hope you are having a wonderful start to your new year!

Lovely blog and beautiful painted wooden floors! I’m writing a novel in which the the central characters are refurbishing an old Southern mansion and I love the look of the painted floors – would be a nice to detail to look into and consider.

I love the look of painted wood floors! They have such a cozy, cottage-y feel. Someday I’ll find a space to do it, too!

Oh wow, I would have loved to have come to the open house. Following all your renovations it would have been great but sadly I don’t have the $2,500 for the cost of the return flight from NZ. However, if I ever get to Atlanta, I will be sure to let you know before hand :).
I love the entrance way to the first image you have, the floors look fabulous. My whole house is polished floors except for my bedroom which has a sisal look carpet. My floors are New Zealand native Tawa wood which is a dark reddish colour. I don’t like the dark wood particularly in my house and would love to have it sanded back and a white wash put over it, a scandanavian look but the thought of moving all my stuff out the house has stopped me so far.
Good luck with your open home and your radio talk. Unfortunately timing will stop me from being able to listen to the radio 🙁

My two cents worth: I do like the large diamond floors, but I find the other ones too busy.

Gorgeous flooring pictures, I don’t have any floors to paint, but I think it would look cool on the cement surrounding the pool in the pool room. Or one of the wooden decks out back. Very neat idea, thanks for sharing!
