Let’s keep the conversation going once more on Bed and Bath ideas, by pondering this question.
Do you have a TV in the master bedroom?
Oh, I am guilty of this one. We have had a TV in our bedroom since day one of our marriage 5 years ago and I can’t imagine NOT having it in there, but I know there are many differing opinions on this one. And I’d like to say that the doors stay shut most of the time, but that’s not true either. Usually they are wide open for viewing.
So, what do YOU think? Yay or Nay, TV viewing at your fingertips or do you prefer to keep the bedroom null and void of the big black monster, therefore creating a sanctuary?
I’m still counting the days (4 to be exact!) until I leave for the ranch! Can you tell I’m just a little bit excited about all of this? We’ll be filming a video segment talking all about Bed and Bath ideas and I hope to use some of my reader’s comments for this one. Even if you can’t go with me, you’ll all be with me in spirit and of course, I’ll share all the fun when I return.
Head on over to the Putting it All Together page for more on this subject from the other girls who getting in on the discussion.

I say yay. We enjoy laying and watching tv together after the kiddos are in bed. We only do it a few times a week but it is “us” time.

As a terrible sleeper, I am strict about no TV in the bedroom. Fortunately, my husband is okay with this, and it just makes the whole room so much more serene (not to mention more open, since there’s no big cabinet to hide the TV either). Serenity is a must for insomniacs!

We’ve been married 33 years and always had a TV in our bedroom…until recently. I just decided that we didn’t need it in there any longer…and we needed to use our bedroom for it’s intended purpose….to sleep…and spend time with each other!!! Do I miss it? Not at all!!!

I do have a tv in our room, for as long as I can remember. I also have my computer in here too. I’m going to decorating hell aren’t I?

Being a diplomat, Rhoda, I would say that it’s a matter of personal preference. 😉
As for us, we have lived happily and peacefully without a television set in our bedroom for many years. I think that’s because with no remote control, potential arguments are stopped before being hatched. But then again, if you argue, you get to make up which has its own set of advantages!
These days, we rarely if ever watch TV day or night. We both prefer reading (with an occasional Hulu), but if books become extinct (which I pray never happens), then I would definitely opt for a television set in the bedroom. It would stay tuned to the History Channel, PBS specials, TBN Classics, certain Christian shows, a design show or two, but more commonly something from our DVD collection.

I like the TV in our room. My boyfriend and I watch our favorite shows before bed. It’s nice to have that time to relax with each other and fall asleep.

Well, we DO have on in the bedroom, but something happened to the cable line and the picture’s all fuzzy. So, it’s just holding down the dresser. But, DH helped our brother-in-law mount one in this and Dh’s sister’s master bedroom, and now DH has been wanted to do the same in our room. Christmas, maybe.
I don’t have a problem with it, except when DH falls asleep watching tv and I can’t reach the remote to shut it off without waking him up!

I have been trying to source accessories and wood case goods (bedroom sets) for the last few months. One cool thing I saw was a retractable flat screen stand where the TV pops out the back and can disappear back into the tv stand unit unit so when you aren’t watching it it was gone. Now it wasn’t nearly as fashionable as yours but at least the TV was out of site.

yes, I like having a TV in the bedroom. We just have a small (19 inch) flat screen one. We usually watch some TV together before bed, and as our bedroom is upstairs a lot of times we bring laundry up there to fold before putting away, so it is nice to have the TV there

I say, why not? If it makes you happy. We have a sitting room off of the master, which is where we keep the TV. It works for us because hubby is usually up much later than I am, so he can watch without disturbing me. Your armoire is stunning by the way Rhoda!
xoxo,
Kim

I guess I’m a bit of an oddball – I haven’t watched TV for over 20 years. I do have a TV, but I use it to watch DVDs. It’s in my third bedroom, which I’ve turned into an upstairs sitting room. I don’t like watching TV in bed, so I wouldn’t have one in my master bedroom.

We’ve had a TV in our room on and off during our 6 year marriage. At the moment we don’t have on in our room and I’ve realized it’s helped our one on one conversation. I’m on the verge of banning laptops and iPhones as well to increase conversation. Now that will be hard 🙂

Different strokes for different fokes is what I say! We have a TV in all of our bedrooms. I rarely watch TV in bed, but Mr. Hubby watches it nightly. He goes to bed before I do. I like to watch TV while I am dusting and cleaning the bedroom, so YAY for the TV in the bedroom. Nice armoire by the way…..ours is not hiden like yours. 🙁
Emily@decorchick says
Definitely yes! I need me some King of Queens and Nancy Grace before I drift off. 🙂

For 6 years of marriage, we never had a TV in our room and did just fine. In fact, we always had only one TV in the house–in the living room–because we felt that it would keep everybody from going their separate ways to watch their shows. However, at our new house, the girls’ bedroom is right off the living room and the TV was keeping them up in the evenings. So we got a TV for our room so we can watch our shows at night. 🙂 It is also nice to be able to watch TV while working out on the elliptical machine. It is on our dresser because we don’t have room for an armoire in our room right now. It’s not ideal, but at least the TVs these day aren’t too ugly.

Yay yay yay!! I think we might kill each other if we didn’t have one in there. While the hubby obsesses over fox news in the living room I get to watch all my shows.
Pam says
We’ve always had a tv in our bedroom as well. It’s often not used but it’s there when we want it. Sometimes it is just nice to escape and go upstairs to my room and pile up the pillows and watch a chick flick and sometimes hubby and I like to watch something together too. It is also handy for those days when you are sick or just not feeling well.

Okay, I am taking the road less traveled it appears. I say NO! I have never had a TV in our bedroom and have been married for 11 years without one. Why change now. I can only imagine it would take away some intamacy, conversations, cuddling, and more. Our bedrooms should be our sanctuary, therefore no TV for me.
Shelia says
Hi Rhoda. Well, in my case it’s a YAY! Like you, we’ve had a TV in our bedroom all of our married life and we love it. Also like you, the doors on our armoire are closed most of the time, but it’s nice to watch a show relaxing in the bed when we want to.
Have so much fun and we’ll all be looking forward to hearing about it.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉

We do have a tv in our bedroom, but it doesn’t get much use. We bought an antique armoire and hubby outfitted it with shelves and openings for the tv, satellite, etc. It is closed a good deal of the time. Usually we only have the morning news on. I do like our bedroom to be more of a sanctuary, more of a romantic feel. We have no children, but it is still nice to have that special place. It is also nice though to have the tv in there if one is not feeling well or on the occasional times my hubby travels (business). I do not sleep well when he is gone and enjoy the sound of the tv then. LOL
We are not big on tv to start with though, so a tv in the bedroom is something we could easily do without and not miss.
