My mama cooked many a chuck roast when we were growing up. In fact, I think that’s about the only cut of beef we ever had except an occasional steak and of course, hamburgers. So, I know my way around a chuck roast. I’ve been cooking them in the crockpot and they do great in there, coming out tender and juicy.
But, when I saw that Ree, The Pioneer Woman had a good-looking recipe for pot roast using the chuck cut, I had to try it. Slow cooked in the oven is always good.
And yep, I have to say, it’s every bit as delish and easy as she describes it to be right there in her recipes. Go on over and grab it if you’d like to try it for yourself. I followed her instructions and it came out tantalizingly delish.
Comfort food, oh man YES! Do you like chuck roasts? Which roast is your fave? We like ’em all. 🙂

How can I say thanks to those who support my blog?
How about checking it out right here…….
Looks like an Easter Sunday dinner to me!
What a wonderful way to wake up in the am….. I could smell that wonderful aroma of chuck roast and onions…..
That’s exactly the way my mom cooked her pot roast….. A great memory !!!
Yep, chuck roast in the oven all day with onions, carrots and potatoes! Then of course you have to have gravy and biscuits. Best meal ever!
I believe this is what defines comfort food!
Rhoda, that does look good. Another good recipe for pot roast is to cook it in the crock pot with a chopped up onion, a potato (or two), some chopped carrots, and a package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix. You can add a tiny bit of water, but not much. As a matter of fact, I don’t remember using water. Turn it on and let it cook it till it falls apart. We used to do that. Try it some time and see if you like it. 🙂
Happy Easter to you, my friend…
XO,
Sheila 🙂
I prefer to use sirloin tip roast. Love PW’s recipes – I’ll check this one out. Thanks!
Oh, that looks so yummy! I love slow cooked pot roast. I also found a recipe on Martha Stewart for a standing rib roast. It was so good that I tried it on a roast and was incredible too!
Yummy Yummy Yummy. I feel so hungry. I like the first dish best.
It looks juicy and fresh. I wanna try this one sometimes.
As a child, and maybe older, I couldn’t wait for Sunday Service to be over, because I knew there was a roast with all the trimmings waiting for us in Mama’s kitchen. Hot Rolls,Ice Tea and a little bite of sweet to finish off a great Sunday Dinner.
Yum! I saw that recipe a while back, but I have yet to find an opportunity to try it out… I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it! 🙂
P.S. I’m having a giveaway on my little blog, and I’d love if you had a chance to stop by!
We had a chuck roast on Sunday. By the time I got up Sunday morning, my husband had already put it in the crock pot — no seasoning at all – just water. That is not the way I make it, so I doctored it up and it was delicious as always. I will check out the Pioneer Woman’s recipe. Thanks for sharing it.
Hey Rho:
I have tried Rhee’s pot roast, and it is delicious. Her recipes are always a hit with the family.
Don’t you love PW’s recipes? Yum! Thanks for stopping by my blog and for hosting the party!
I did PW’s meatloaf this week and really liked it. Cooking my way through her book so I will be doing this pot roast at some point. I don’t buy much red meat so I haven’t a clue what I will need until I read the recipe 😉
Yepper… sure looks yummy!

The chuck roast is probably my favorite roast, it is the least expensive and the tastiest, but I love all of the beef cuts. I will check out her recipe and perhaps I will use it the next time that I make one. Have you given us your recipe for mashed potatoes that I see in the photo above? That looks very good, comfort food is exactly what it is. Hugs, Cindy S.
