Saying Goodbye to Holly

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you’ve probably already seen the news that we lost Holly this week. It was heart breaking and so sad, but she was 13 and unfortunately got sick. The vet didn’t think she was going to recover and it happened quickly over the weekend. The vet thinks it was vestibular disease (which causes vertigo and nausea) and after 3 days of not being able to get up and walk and not eating, Holly was so very pitiful and Mark made the hard decision to say goodbye to her. The vet came to our house and it was peaceful, but oh so sad for us. We both cried, but she lived a long good life with Mark and then here with us the last 3 years. Mark got her when she was 3 months old, so she was very special to him.

This pic was July 30th and was the last time she came out of the fence to sit with Mark after he mowed the grass. She did that pretty often the last couple of years and I’m so glad I got this picture of them. Happy days and we didn’t know how close we were to the end. We knew she was definitely getting more feeble and this would probably be her last year. She lived a long life for a big dog.

She was a sweet dog and she and I bonded the last 3 years. I know she will always have a special place in our hearts. Mark loved her dearly and is so very sad, but we know time is the healer. I just wanted to let you all know too. Our backyard will be so quiet without her presence right now, she loved being on the porch.

Dear Rhoda and Mark, I’m so sorry you lost your precious Holly. We lost our Jasper last November after 14 years. Our fur babies give us unconditional love and loyalty, we learn a lot from animals.

Oh that is so very sad. Pets bring so much joy to our lives . Holly was a beautiful dog! Our little pup is getting up in age too. Ginger is a 12lb Cavalier, but is quite the defender of our backyard. Lol

I could tell from Mark’s smile when he was in a pic with Holly, how much he loved her. And so happy that you were able to bond with her as well. Prayers for you both as you grieve and prayers for Holly in her new heavenly home.

So sorry to hear about this. We also have lost beloved dogs that we considered part of our family. People that don’t have beloved pets simply don’t understand the pain we go through after we lose our pets we’ve had for many years. 💕

Speaking from experience, I suspect the sadness will never fully go away for Mark. You never really say goodbye to a pet that is so loved and cherished. 💔

    Dear Mark and Rhoda,
I am so sorry to hear you lost your beloved Holly. She looked like such a sweet girl and I know you will miss her. She had a good life that’s for sure and for a larger dog 13 is pretty old. We lost our little dog Tina when she was 13 from cancer. The first week was the hardest not having her to greet us at the front door with her tail wagging. I hope the special memories of Holly will comfort you during your grief.

That is so hard. She was a beautiful dog. I love the picture of her with Mark. The smile on his face says it all.
It breaks your heart when you have to let them go. We kept our first dog alive way too long and as
difficult as it is to make that decision, it really is better for them.
