One of the perks of being a design blogger is getting to do book reviews. And as a lover of Southern Living magazine, of course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check out a brand new book by the publisher of one of my favorite magazines. I’m a Southern girl, after all!
As a longtime fan of Southern Living, it was fun to open the packed full of inspiration pages of this beautiful new book and see it for myself.
You’ll find all sorts of inspiration ideas for updating your home. Gracious hospitality, warmth and effortless elegance signify great Southern style.
Tour the most inspired rooms that have graced the pages of Southern Living magazine in this 288-page guide and grab some great ideas for yourself.
Take a mis-matched group of items and learn how to use them together.
Turning a dining room into a sitting room is easy with a little guidance.
And how many of us have loved taking old cast-offs from the attic or thriftstore and repurposing them into something fresh and glam. Yes, we have!
Sharing updated ways of using old things, this book will inspire you too. I’m so happy to have it in my personal book collection as a reference guide and just to look at. I love pretty decorating books!
You’ll find:
- Defining Southern Style: From heirlooms to monograms, new ways to celebrate traditional icons
- Reclaim It: Tips to turn grandma’s attic finds into updated treasures
- Solutions from Top Southern designers for design dilemmas
- Style on a Budget: Identify individual style and build a room around it
- Why It Works?: Piece-by-piece deconstruction of rooms to show the key components required to achieve a particular look.
- Southern Style File: Black book of editors’ favorite designers, retailers, and more.
- Defining Southern Style: A glossary of helpful “decorator speak” terms.

My main living room! we moved in 2 years ago AND STILL HAVE NO FURNITURE. I finally have a job so we can afford to. Help!
I’m currently updating my family room and could use some inspiration! I’ve just purchased a beautiful neutral (with accents of brown, copper and teal) traditional rug as my starting point. I have antique side tables, a cottage style armoire and a glass top coffee table I’m trying to incorporate in my design. I’m hoping this book will help me to use all these pieces and yet look like a room that is “put together” and not just a hodge podge of furniture thrown together. Do you think this book would be helpful?
Love your blog!
Shay
I love, love, love Southern Living!! I need inspiration for my family room. I’m buying a “Neutral” red sofa and need ideas for additional pieces. The magazine always has great ideas!
We will be updating our dining/sitting room. It is a challenging room. It is the room where the front door is located. There is a iron spiral staircase on one side, a wood burning stove in the middle, and three other doors lead into this room. I am excited and ready for this decorating challenge.

My living room needs a boost. I know what I like, but lacking the skills of how to put everything together. I’m positive this book would be a great resource.
I desperately need inspiration for my living and dining rooms.
My living room is a giant of a space and needs some serious decorating! A TV and a couch just won’t cut it. Also, does my back patio count? I’m sure good ol’ SL could make that space gorgeous as well!
I’ve always loved Southern Living! It’s a great magazine and inspiration!
What a great giveaway. thanks!
My guest room needs some TLC. Need to find a nice paint color for the walls. I love to look for ideas in decorator magazines and books.
Oh my I just realized I didn’t answer your questions lol. My master bath has been waiting for three years much to my husbands disappointment. I have been a Southern Living subscriber since I was married 31 yrs ago, and I always love their books for inspiration and how tos!
Living in Maryland I sometimes need reminders of all things Southern! Thank goodness for Southeren Living and Southern Hospitality!!
WOW the books looks wonderful. I sure need ideas. I have lived in my home almost 4 years and yet to have things on the wall in some rooms. Just can’t decide. Looking for inspiration for sure.
I absolutely LOVE Southern Living! We recently moved into an older 1940s cottage and EVERY room needs an update! Thanks for offering such a great giveaway!
LOVE this giveaway…..thanks for the generosity Southern Living and Rhoda! My house burned down to the ground almost 6 years ago. It took us two years to demolish, look for anything in the rubble and to rebuild. Even though we are in a new home, almost everything in the house is from yard sales, trash picking or giveaways! Would LOVE to redo my painting studio and make it more artsy! It’s the room I spend most of my days in! Thanks again! Hoping for a win! Jean from South Jersey.
I love Southern Living magazines and appreciate such a generous giveaway. My living room needs some help and so does my bedroom. I know that book would surely give me the inspiration I need.
Actually I am moving into a new house and I want to update all my rooms. So a book like this would be so helpful!

My family room needs finishing touches. There are a lot of things I like about it, but since it’s the first thing a visit sees when they enter our home, I would love for the room to just “pop”!
