One of the perks of being a design blogger is getting to do book reviews. And as a lover of Southern Living magazine, of course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check out a brand new book by the publisher of one of my favorite magazines. I’m a Southern girl, after all!
As a longtime fan of Southern Living, it was fun to open the packed full of inspiration pages of this beautiful new book and see it for myself.
You’ll find all sorts of inspiration ideas for updating your home. Gracious hospitality, warmth and effortless elegance signify great Southern style.
Tour the most inspired rooms that have graced the pages of Southern Living magazine in this 288-page guide and grab some great ideas for yourself.
Take a mis-matched group of items and learn how to use them together.
Turning a dining room into a sitting room is easy with a little guidance.
And how many of us have loved taking old cast-offs from the attic or thriftstore and repurposing them into something fresh and glam. Yes, we have!
Sharing updated ways of using old things, this book will inspire you too. I’m so happy to have it in my personal book collection as a reference guide and just to look at. I love pretty decorating books!
You’ll find:
- Defining Southern Style: From heirlooms to monograms, new ways to celebrate traditional icons
- Reclaim It: Tips to turn grandma’s attic finds into updated treasures
- Solutions from Top Southern designers for design dilemmas
- Style on a Budget: Identify individual style and build a room around it
- Why It Works?: Piece-by-piece deconstruction of rooms to show the key components required to achieve a particular look.
- Southern Style File: Black book of editors’ favorite designers, retailers, and more.
- Defining Southern Style: A glossary of helpful “decorator speak” terms.
The Southern Living publishers are allowing me to give away TWO copies to my readers! Squeeeeaaaal!!
I knew that you would be excited about that too, so all you have to do is leave a comment.
Tell me what room in your house needs updating the most and what you hope to gain from reading this book!
That’s it! Leave a comment and I’ll choose TWO random winners in a few days!

Honestly the worst room in my house at the moment is my bedroom, which is terrible…we spend so much time there!
I would love an opportunity to win. Thanks for letting me try!
Our family room needs a makeover. We moved in 8 months ago. The ceiling is vaulted and has open beams, so there is a lot of painting that needs to be completed. The previous owner built the home in the 80s, and there is some (not so updated) stenciling around the perimeter. I need ideas on bringing this room up to 2011. It has great bones, and I need to figure out how to maximize those!
I’d love to give this to my daughter who is moving & will be redecorating. We both love Southern Living & your blog!
Thanks so much for the chance to win!
Love Southern Livung even though I’m trapped in the northern tundra!
my family room is an over-beiged, under-inspired space that could use a healthy dose of SL inspiration!
My dining room and guest room could both use a touch more southern hospitality! Thanks for the chance!
I love Southern Living books….Thanks for the giveaway!!! Have a good week….jlk
My den definitely needs some help–lots of wood floors and paneling with grasscloth on the upper walls—exposed brick fireplace. Good bones, but I need some inspiration to pull it together!
Hi Rhoda
I would so love to win the giveaway. Our kitchen-Dining room needs help. We remodeled our home entirely in 1990. After 21 years we need to do some major redecorating. Remove wallpaper and replace floor. Plus our entire countertop needs some attention. Thanks for the great post. I love Southern Living too.

I would absolutely love to win this book as I am in desperate need of decorating ideas/help. I’m in the process of making over my art studio and sewing room in a vintage style. I would love some ideas on how to display my vintage collectibles in a way that looks good and not cluttered.
Hugs,
Robin
Hi Rhoda – we just purchased a new home and should be moving into it in before Christmas. All rooms need a little attention and some rooms will need more than others : ) but am looking forward to giving our new home the TLC it deserves. I may be a northern girl but love all things southern and would love to win one of the books. Thanks! Kim
We’re building so the whole darn thing needs to be done! But if I have to play by the rules, I’ll go with the living/family room since that’s the main space that everyone sees the most. We’re in New Orleans so a Southern Living book would be fantastic! Thanks for the fabulous giveaway!
Ummmm….my whole house. House built in 1999 if that explains anything. Seriously though, I’d use it for ideas to redo the kitchen. That room is stumping me the most. I have several Southern Living books and they are wonderful, so I’d love to add this one to my collection.
Our ‘living room’, aka extra room that homes from the ’60’s and ’70’s had, but never used, has a mauve silk settee, and 2 velvet wing chairs with a floral bird print!!! NEED I SAY MORE??? Helppppp…
another Southern Living fan here… My master bedroom AND bath need updating, since it doesn’t make sense to do one without the other. The aubergine and gold color scheme needs to go!
Both my master bedroom and bath need help. Thank you for the opportunity to enter.
I’m a southern girl who loves Southern Living! My master bedroom is due for an update!
My bedroom is probably the most outdated in style but my kitchen needs the most work. It’s a room that’s used a lot!
Southern Living has been my alltime favorite for the past twenty years! I love everything they do….
Hi! We’re planning on moving to Upstate SC soon and even though I have subscribed to Southern Living magazine (waiting on my first issue) I’m think I’m in some serious need of help with gettin’ on board with the southern style. Irregardless that I’m from the deep south – Australia – I still need help!
