Raised in South Georgia’s farm country, cookbook author, Gena Knox has a long history with the land and Southern cooking. Her newly released cookbook, Southern My Way: Simple Recipes, Fresh Flavor, features more than 250 pages of seasonal recipes (100+ recipes), streamlined for busy lives and accompanied by full-color photographs that portray a lifelong love affair with Southern food and culture. Gena shares her modern take on the region’s culinary specialties.
Says Gena,
“I want home cooks to read my book and feel as though they shared the same culinary experiences that I did as a child, like riding through the fields to check on crops with my father or making homemade biscuits alongside my mother in the kitchen.”
I love that!
Sounds very similar to the way I grew up. We didn’t ride through the fields, but walked through my parent’s garden plenty of times, freshly picked veggies at the ready.
With a contemporary spin on Southern cooking, Gena’s recipes rely on fresh, seasonal ingredients to make them work with little trouble. And guess what? We have ONE cookbook to give away to one of my readers. If you’d like a chance at this beautiful hardback cookbook, just leave a comment telling me your favorite dish to make for your family.
That’s it! I’ll leave the giveaway open until Sunday evening and choose a winner then.

Smothered pork chops, collards or turnips, potato salad/mashed potatoes and white field peas with biscuits is my family’s favorite Southern meal. Peach cobbler/lemon pie for desert tops it off.

Anything on the grill!

Chicken Enchiladas is a favorite. But my husband also loves it when I’m in the kitchen and he asks what I’m making and I answer I don’t have a name and I don’t really know yet because I’m creating it as I go, and we may never have it again because I may not have the same ingredients! And he always loves it!

My go to meal is hamburger steak, gravy, mashed potatoes, and petit pois peas. My kids love it and it’s a super quick meal!

I love to cook, for family, for a crowd, for co-workers, for wedding dinners or any other group. Others know me for my dinner rolls which I enjoy making, as well as bread sticks, and I’d love to make a better baked (fried type) chicken with perhaps a bit lower fat content. My hubby is a great supporter and always open to new recipes, experiments, and new creations! I would LOVE this cookbook to try some new versions on my family and friends! Power of positive thinking: I WILL win, I WILL win, I WILL win. Thanks for your consideration!

Enchiladas or Mac – n – Cheese are a huge hit around here. I try to “healthy them up”, but in reality we usually revert back to the classics! 🙂 This book looks beautiful! Great giveaway!

Although we don’t have it often, I love cooking breakfast for my family: Bacon, scrambled eggs (w/ a little bacon grease just like my Great-Grandmother used to do it), grits & biscuits.

I make a different chicken soup every week during the winter. Keeps them anticipating something new from the kitchen instead of the same old same old…
