Southern My Way Cookbook Giveaway

{Giveaway is Closed}

Raised in South Georgia’s farm country, cookbook author, Gena Knox has a long history with the land and Southern cooking.  Her newly released cookbook, Southern My Way: Simple Recipes, Fresh Flavor, features more than 250 pages of seasonal recipes (100+ recipes), streamlined for busy lives and accompanied by full-color photographs that portray a lifelong love affair with Southern food and culture. Gena shares her modern take on the region’s culinary specialties.
Says Gena,

“I want home cooks to read my book and feel as though they shared the same culinary experiences that I did as a child, like riding through the fields to check on crops with my father or making homemade biscuits alongside my mother in the kitchen.”

I love that!

(Gena, the author)

Sounds very similar to the way I grew up.  We didn’t ride through the fields, but walked through my parent’s garden plenty of times, freshly picked veggies at the ready.

With a contemporary spin on Southern cooking, Gena’s recipes rely on fresh, seasonal ingredients to make them work with little trouble. And guess what?  We have ONE cookbook to give away to one of my readers.  If you’d like a chance at this beautiful hardback cookbook, just leave a comment telling me your favorite dish to make for your family.

That’s it!  I’ll leave the giveaway open until Sunday evening and choose a winner then.

We love ham and beans with cornbread or homemade chicken pot pie…for these winter nights in Southern California…ham and beans is a foreign concept here.

My favorite meal for a crowd (and it seems like we always have one) is turkey noodle soup!

We love homeade pizza with fresh veggies! I don’t think there are any Italians in our family tree but we sure love the food!

As a family of 8 we LOVE to cook and eat. Often I am pressed for time so one of my favorite things to make that is well received by all are Morrocan insprired Tangines. They are super easy to make with little fuss and are both savory and sweet. We can use chicken, beef or pork (whatever is on special that week) throw it in the cooker add some fruit veggies and serve over couscous and call it a meal.

I would love a chance to win a new cookbook. As a native California girl, the south is an area that does not get a lot of food exposure out here and I would love to know more!

I just love checking your blog every day Rhoda! Today was especially exciting when I realized you had a cookbook giveaway. I love to read new cookbooks and living in Tennessee I think this book would be perfect for me. My family of 6 loves when I made homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, my bunch loves breakfast. Thanks!

    hi Rhoda,
I was catching up on some SRT listening today and listened to your podcast. I just want to say how sweet and delightful you were on the show. Your kindness, and generousity (not to mention that sweet southern accent that I miss;) were so very lovely to listen to.
    It’s nice to meet you.

My favorite dish to make right now is chicken parmigiana. I would love to have a new cookbook to get me out of the rut that seems inevitable in January!

What an amazing cookbook! It sounds right up my alley!
As a Boondock Northern Girl I have been having a very public love affair with all things Southern! Every since I read Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews years ago I have been indulging myself in all the Southern literature, food and culture I can get my hands on. And up in the Adirondacks it’s not that easy but I make do, especially with cooking up some Southern dishes.
My fav recipe is our own twist, Vension Chicken Fried Steaks! I told ya we were Boondock! 😉 But I am on a quest for a good Fried Green Tomato Recipe! You happen to have one? Hearts and Happy!
