Sparkle and Cheer in the Dining Room

Today, I’m sharing some sparkle and shine from my dining room table that I set up for Christmas.  I love adding pretty things to my sideboard during this time of year and I’m having my girlfriends over again this year, so it’s fun to celebrate and have the house looking pretty this time of year. I’ve always been a big fan of Christmas and everything that goes with it and love decking my halls for this season.  This week will be a big one with lots of home tours in blogland, but again this year I don’t want to get caught up in the perfection of it all.  Celebrating Christmas is all about the real meaning and sharing this time with our family and friends, so let’s all keep that in mind as we move into the next few weeks of festivities.

garland and wreath front door

It is a joy this year to have my front porch all finished AND painted.  You might remember that last year I had garland hanging out here, but it was still in its unfinished stage and not nearly as pretty as it is now.  I stopped by Lowes and picked up a fresh wreath and one of their cedar garlands for hanging of the greens at my house this year.  I love real garland and it adds so much to a home at Christmas.   A welcome canopy for guests coming in the home.  I actually wrapped 2 kinds of real garlands together, the cedar from Lowes and a pine one from the grocery store.

christmas wreath from Lowes

I used a clear suction cup holder to hang the wreath from my glass storm door and love how it looks.  Lowes has some beautiful real wreaths for a very good price, this one was $14.99.   I added the green bow that was in my stash.   Love that pop of color against my turquoise door.

whole dining room christmas

I got out my old tablecloth, which is just an inexpensive round one in cream with pretty fringe that I asked my mom to sew on for me ages ago.  It adds something extra to a plain tablecloth.

christmas sideboard

The sideboard is always fun to decorate during the Holiday season and I moved in my mercury glass and silver collection this year.  I love to  just pile it up and let it sparkle, adding in a few fresh cut greens from the yard.

christmas table set

I just pulled out my white dishes and gold accents and had fun with it, simple and elegant.

Gold placemats and chargers add an elegant touch.

silver candlabra

Sparkly ornaments atop the  silver candle holder.

These cute white deer head ornaments also came from Lowes and I couldn’t resist them for this Holiday season and they make a great place setting accent with a little fresh greenery underneath.

christmas dining centerpiece

I used a tiered stand to add more ornaments and baubles, all sparkly and shiny.  Tucked with a few fresh greens, that’s an easy centerpiece to put together.

place setting

Another look at the place setting.  I’ve had the gold placemats for a long time and the chargers were a recent yardsale find.  Napkins I’ve had forever too.

dining to living room

Peeking into the living room at the pretty tree from the dining room.

berries in cone

Love this cone with faux berries and fresh greens hanging from the corner cabinet.  It always makes me happy.

have merry christmas sign

Here’s a peek at the sideboard and that beautiful Have Yourself a Merry little Christmas, which came from sweet friend, Tara at Between You and Me. She has a great Etsy shop with some wonderful inspirational signs.  I absolutely love the statement it makes in my dining room this year.

christmas mantel

Another Lowes deer head ornament found its way to my Christmas mantel.  I had so much fun with the mantel this year with the newly planked back.  I’ll be sharing lots more of the mantel and more the rest of the week of all my Christmas cheer.

lowes garland

I also picked up this sparkly pinecone garland at Lowes too. They have some pretty things to use during the Christmas season.  The gold garland I picked up in Nashville while I was antiquing last week.  It’s vintage and so sparkly, I love it.  Great mix with the glittery pinecones. Takes me back to my childhood.

Stay tuned to the rest of the week and I’ll be sharing my whole house all decked out.  I do dearly love this time of year and I’m going to enjoy the next few weeks to the hilt with my family and friends.  Merry Christmas!

Hi Rhoda. I think you did a great job remodeling all of your home, but my very favorite room is the Dining Room. I love the wainscoting, the color, the furniture, everything. It looks very festive and elegant.

Rhoda I always enjoy reading your blog but lately it has so many pop-up ads that is is annoying to try to read it. Sometimes you can click on them and make them go away today there were 2 ads that I just couldn’t get rid of. Just a little FYI in case anyone else has trouble too. I have a screen shot that I took if you wanna see what I’m talking about.

HI, Gwen, thanks for telling me. I’m not supposed to have pop up ads, but sometimes they get through. I’ll have to try to figure out where they are coming from. If you want to send me that screenshot, feel free.

Your home is so beautiful and I love the touches of Christmas cheer you have added throughout. I am loving that tree I see in the background…love the way you have it elevated on that pedestal. Again, beautiful job and Happy Holidays!!!

Very pretty, Rhoda. I bought those white deer also, nice quality for the price. I love your sideboard, and just won one at auction last week. I hope by showing my husband a photo of your DR he will be convinced of how great it looks and could look in our DR. Happy Holidays!

Everything is so pretty ! I do have to smile. YEARS ago when I first found your blog, it was close to Christmas, and you had decorated a beautiful GIANT tree with other smaller trees around. Now I see that you (like me) have drastically downsized. I told my friends this week that over the last five years, my tree has gotten smaller and smaller…I’m not yet tabletop but I am close. This year it’s only me and the husband, and I was so tempted to NOT decorate at all, but gee…all those decorations sitting in the closet just need to be displayed. So many of my friends are completely forgoing decorating. Sad. Merry Christmas Rhoda (one of my favorite bloggers) and God bless you in the New Year. p.s. – I bought that exact wreath at Lowe’s yesterday and added my own red bow. Great minds.

I love how you work your holiday decor (at Christmas and throughout the year) into the existing colors and decor of your home! Nothing ever looks out of place or unbalanced. Gorgeous!

Rhoda, your dining room is so beautiful and inspiring! And I love that you mention doing away with perfection and just enjoying this season – the pressure of the holidays can be overwhelming but only if you let it be 🙂

All so very lovely, and no surprise. I really like the idea of the tree on a pedestal. Ever since I’ve had these 2 psycho kitties in the house, I haven’t been able to have a real Christmas tree. There is zero chance they would stay out of it. I might try one on a pedestal and see what happens.

I also get so many pop ups here. Today there was a larger one covering the words on top of a smaller one covering the words. The x to close them is so small that trying to press it ends up taking me to the site of the ad. I feel I am peeking around these to read the blog. This has been the case for months.

The table looks so pretty Rhoda, I have a small round table too, they are great at fitting a lot of people around. I have just posted some of my Christmas decor including a glimmer of my new bedroom decor which I hope to reveal next week.

I love the simplicity of your table, I am going to keep mine simple this year but looking towards a rustic look. Now seeing yours I am thinking maybe I should have gone white but I might do that next year.

    Lovely photos 🙂

It’s all beautiful. I think I need to make a trip to Lowe’s. I’ve been looking high and low for either a silver or gold small, preferably metal, reindeer. Would you believe I can’t find one anywhere? It’s hard to imagine not finding one at Christmastime.

Very pretty indeed! Your blog is inspiring on so many levels! I read some of the comments regarding pup-ups. I receive many more blog pop-ups when I’m on my iPad than when I’m on my PC. Hmmm
