Spring Birdbath and Chimes

Spring has definitely sprung in the South and it’s time to hang outside, plant some flowers and enjoy the outdoors again. Doesn’t this weather just make you want to dig in the dirt?  I miss doing that at my own house and every spring for the past few years, I have bought flowers and planted plants, in anticipation of making a pretty yard.  I’ll have a yard again and when I do, I’ll get busy planting and making it pretty once again.  This season just brings it out in all of us.

Flowers always get my attention and I love seeing them grow.  My mom does too.  She has some pretty flower beds in their backyard and she has always planted flowers and flowering shrubs as well.  This year, we decided to add a pretty birdbath, since she didn’t have one.  The birds are plentiful in our backyard and why not give them a place to take a bath?

Lowes Garden Center

We headed to Lowes and this is the part that always gets me in trouble.

Flowers

I see all these beautiful flowers and want to take them all home with me.  You too?

Stargazer Lilies

Stargazers are some of my faves.   I had a few of these planted in my old yard and one of these days, I’ll plant them again.  These flowers are just the loveliest to look at.

birdbaths at Lowes

We checked out the birdbaths and decided on the dark green one on the right.  It’s the perfect size for our flower bed.

Birdbath options

Mom picked up a large lightweight planter saucer and she’s going to use it to replace the top of her birdbath that fell off and broke at their mountain house .  She thinks she can use some adhesive and set this one back in place.

new birdbath

We brought the new birdbath home and put him in place and he looks right at home now.

The birds should enjoy their new swimming pool and enjoy beating the heat this summer with this stylish bath.

Camelia

Our camelias are waning and fading for the year, but they put on a beautiful show for us.

chimes

We also picked up a tinkly windchime to hang in the trees behind the backyard swing that my dad spends so much time in this time of year.  It will be music to his ears.

Farmer Dad

Speaking of my dad, there’s the farmer now, running the tiller, and getting ready to plant his spring crop.  Hardworking man that he is, he will be setting out seed soon!

How about you?  Does Spring make you set your sights on new flowers and planting things?

What is in your garden this year?  Pretty flowers or edible greens?

We’ll be harvesting some veggies in a few months and that will be a happy day.

{Note:  As part of the Lowe’s Creative bloggers team, we were given a Lowes giftcard to spruce up the backyard for the birds this spring.}

    Good morning!
I’ve never had a garden, unless a big pot with tomato bushes in it counts. One of these years I’ll have to try out my hopefully green thumb. Still waiting for spring, here!

Last year for my birthday my parents gave me a bird bath. I love looking out the front door and watching the birds jump around in it or drink from it. I hope your mom enjoys hers as much as I do. (It’s also been a plus for my cat who loves to gaze out the front door and meow at the birds so close to him.)

I will plant caladiums and impatiens, because my yard is full of shade. Around July 4th the yard will look great ; however, around August it will start to look a little tired. Being a city girl on a shady lot, I cannot grow vegetables and fruits. Occasionally, I may hit a farmer’s market and taste ” real ” tomatoes and peas.

What a great day in the yard. I dug out the bird feeder and need to set that up where the squirrels won’t get to it! And need to set out the hummingbird feeder too – those little guys make my girls smile!

I know it won’t be long until you have your own yard to dig in. Even if you are in an apartment you can always have a pot of flowers at your front door. That’s the thing that I love most about the summer. Everyone can have a little bit of pretty if they want to.

Oh, all I can think of is gardening the last couple of weeks! It has been so beautiful. Just today I repurposed an old wicker rocker (it actually used to be in my now grown daughter’s nursery) as a planter in the garden and bought a climbing rose bush to train on it.

Happy Spring to you, sweet lady!
