Spring Birdbath and Chimes

Spring has definitely sprung in the South and it’s time to hang outside, plant some flowers and enjoy the outdoors again. Doesn’t this weather just make you want to dig in the dirt?  I miss doing that at my own house and every spring for the past few years, I have bought flowers and planted plants, in anticipation of making a pretty yard.  I’ll have a yard again and when I do, I’ll get busy planting and making it pretty once again.  This season just brings it out in all of us.

Flowers always get my attention and I love seeing them grow.  My mom does too.  She has some pretty flower beds in their backyard and she has always planted flowers and flowering shrubs as well.  This year, we decided to add a pretty birdbath, since she didn’t have one.  The birds are plentiful in our backyard and why not give them a place to take a bath?

Lowes Garden Center

We headed to Lowes and this is the part that always gets me in trouble.

Flowers

I see all these beautiful flowers and want to take them all home with me.  You too?

Stargazer Lilies

Stargazers are some of my faves.   I had a few of these planted in my old yard and one of these days, I’ll plant them again.  These flowers are just the loveliest to look at.

birdbaths at Lowes

We checked out the birdbaths and decided on the dark green one on the right.  It’s the perfect size for our flower bed.

Birdbath options

Mom picked up a large lightweight planter saucer and she’s going to use it to replace the top of her birdbath that fell off and broke at their mountain house .  She thinks she can use some adhesive and set this one back in place.

new birdbath

We brought the new birdbath home and put him in place and he looks right at home now.

birdbath in place

The birds should enjoy their new swimming pool and enjoy beating the heat this summer with this stylish bath.

Camelia

Our camelias are waning and fading for the year, but they put on a beautiful show for us.

chimes

We also picked up a tinkly windchime to hang in the trees behind the backyard swing that my dad spends so much time in this time of year.  It will be music to his ears.

Farmer Dad

Speaking of my dad, there’s the farmer now, running the tiller, and getting ready to plant his spring crop.  Hardworking man that he is, he will be setting out seed soon!

How about you?  Does Spring make you set your sights on new flowers and planting things?

What is in your garden this year?  Pretty flowers or edible greens?

We’ll be harvesting some veggies in a few months and that will be a happy day.

{Note:  As part of the Lowe’s Creative bloggers team, we were given a Lowes giftcard to spruce up the backyard for the birds this spring.}

I read a book titled Flower Confidential, and there is a whole chapter about the Stargazer lily and how it was instrumental the flower industry. You might like the book.

I love the garden centres. I will walk through and not buy anything
just look. Too early here to plant.
I was out yesterday looking for a new birdbath.
Didn’t get to Lowes, I wonder if they will have them here or if it’s too
    early. I love yours.

Wasn’t the weather just absolutely beautiful this weekend? I actually just blogged about our yard and everything that has been blooming. We moved into our home during the wintertime and we had no idea what would bloom. The birdbath is so pretty, by the way! Hope you are enjoying the Atlanta weather as much as I am.

The new birdbath looks right at home in your parents’ yard! We’ve been planting our vegetable garden and lots of flowers recently. I could spend all day outside in the beautiful weather we’ve been having.

Yep. I get the pure shakes when I go to the garden stores. I have made two different trips there this weekend. My debit card will catch H%^L the next few months. 🙂 Love the bird bath. Remind me I need to replace the one that my sweet grandbaby accidentally broke last Fall. Can your dad come over with his tiller? 🙂 Happy week, Barb

Bet your Dad will plant that garden of good Friday! I have an infestion of some nasty flowering weed all over my front yard. I have tried to pull it up at least that crip. I went to Lowe’s and wanted to buy all the flowering plants. Maybe next weekend when the weeds are gone for the time being.

We Michigander’s are loving the early spring we’ve been blessed with! Everything is blooming about 6 weeks early. We usally stick to flowers in our garden and a few tomatoes. It looks like you found the perfect home for your moms birdbath.

Your photo of the Camelia is absolute perfection!
I’ve had to avoid the floral/garden section at Home Depot and Lowes so far this spring. I always snag a ton of flowers to spruce up the garden at the first sign of spring, but this year we’ve had some unexpected puppy expenses on the brink of our wedding so I’m pinching pennies as tight as I can! But as soon as the wedding is behind us I’ll be loading up on the flowers.

This year I’m going to try for an herb/veggie garden in large planters (that I might diy) on our deck. Our backyard has plenty of access to deer, which was really cute until I realized that they eat everything!

The wind chimes are a great addition, I love how a garden can appeal to all of your senses, sight, smell, hearing…

We are SO ready for spring! We thought it came, but I woke up to a dusting of snow this morning- bleh! We’re in the city center and balconies are for storage- they’re enclosed…so we’re anxiously awaiting our return to a lawn and some room to run around and enjoy some nature!

    Rhoda,
I am sipping my morning coffee and smiling because whenever we go to Lowes or Home Depot for something other than ‘cosmetics’ Thomas heads in one direction and meets me in the nursery when he is done! Our Camilla was planted by the previous owner in a bad spot but I don’t want to move it because each spring it is covered in blooms. I love the sound of wind chimes and happy birds. It seems your Mama’s yard will feature both!
    Your Friend,
    Deborah

oh, I’ve become obsessed with planting and growing! We haven’t made the time to section off part of our yard (and block it off from the dog) to start a garden yet, but we have a big back deck so I’ve been working on container gardening. I have lots of flowers, but I’ve also planted romaine lettuce, green peppers, green onions, spinach, strawberries, and herbs (thyme, parsley, chives, oregano, basil, and cilantro). Everytime I go to the nursery I want to buy more!!

Good morning, Rhoda! Your post made me smile! Flowers and wind chimes and bird baths! I am still in the middle of garden clean up – all of our perennials are popping up and I did not do a very good job of cutting back old growth last fall….my reasoning was to leave the seeds for the birds…. NOW I gotta mess to deal with! But it is so much fun to just lose your self in making it all pretty! I am going to steal your Mom’s idea to replace one of our broken bird bath dishes! 🙂

I love your post. I too spent time at a garden center this weekend. My roses are all blooming, the azaleas are finishing thier show and I planted more perrenials. I do hope the wind chime you got is not as powerful as the one my MIL bought us. My first thought after I put it up was “good Lord, is she trying to drive me crazy?!” It was SO LOUD. I’d love a bird bath, but one of my terriers always tries to jump in the bath part- she thinks it is a perfect bed. HA!

I absolutely adore a yard full of flowers. When we bought this last house there wasn’t one…sigh. We have started acting some climbing rose bushes and other plants that will produce flowers! yah. We added a fountain for the birds and a feeder. Of course I want more but it is a beginning.

PS The bird bath looks really nice you and your mom got.

Hi Rhoda! My favorite picture is the one of your daddy using the tiller. Wow! That is really hard work. I am amazed and thankful that he is able to do what he loves. Put a smile on my face this Monday morning! You are a blessed lady!
