What do you do with those empty little corners of your room? Don’t forget to take a look at them for possibilities.
Do you have a spot that you can add a little desk and chair to make it cozy and interesting? This is in our downstairs den and instead of leaving this corner empty, I added in a yardsale desk that was painted black. I did have a simple wicker chair here that you can see in the first pic, but recently upgraded and found this pretty snazzy number at Homegoods. And you know how much I love that place. Great way to add a little style to a corner and have extra seating too.
They had several fabrics in this style to choose from (they are meant to be dining chairs), but I loved the tight pattern of this leopard print and there is a hint of aqua in the background. The pillow, from Petit Coterie Etsy shop and the aqua Southern Living at Home vase are trade outs/gifts from former advertisers. Thank you both!
Gotta love that nailhead trim.
I stopped in Pier one and found these really cute wooden sticks for $3 per bundle, so I got 2 of them and they add some nice height to this corner along with texture. Wall color in here is Sherwin Williams Believable Buff, a great neutral with just a little golden/yellow tone.
Texture is a very good thing to sprinkle around a room. Mix those textures up for much more interest in your space.
- Bamboo and wood
- Shiny seashells
- Nubby linen fabrics
- Gleaming silver or golden bronze
- Rough vs. smooth
That’s what mixing up textures is all about and your space will be better for it.
Do you have an empty corner that’s just begging for a style makeover?

Rhoda, I love the chair (and the rest of your corner). I’m moving my antique secretary to the sunroom to use my laptop with and I think a new chair will just make that part of the room! I love the color too…my sunroom furniture is all off-white on the large pieces because the sun will fade it so much, but if I can find a good deal on a chair with some color that would look good too. The colors are black, robin’s egg blue and a touch of red. I think a trip to Homegoods is in order!

Sweet little corner nook for a desk. Great job! ~ Sarah
What a great use of a small space , Rhoda I can see why you like sitting there. Corners are often forgotten in rooms, now your readers will start looking at their corners differently. You have made your home so liveable and perfect for you, Kathysue
Rhoda, you are so talented. Your desk looks perfect and the wicker shelf above is perfect. I love mixing textures and you do it oh so well. Thank you for sharing with us. Love, love the chair. I wish we had a Home Goods where I live, I have to drive 3 hours to get to one so guess where I’m going ha ha. Thank you again, Corrie
I, too, love your desk area and really LOVE the new chair! AS for me there isn’t ONE corner i this house that NEEDS something. I am the kind of person who does NOT like empty corners:):) My house is just about full to the brim. I think I need MORE room…..my friends would laugh at me, there are only the 2 of us rambling around this big house now but something brand new, that I could decorate would make me ONE HAPPY CAMPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XO, Pinky
I love your new chair and the entire vignette in that corner of your room. As a matter of fact, I’ve been on the lookout for a desk to put in an empty corner of our family room. I would never have thought about putting a desk there until I saw your den sometime ago. Thanks for all your inspiration and most of all, TFS! Sheila
Looks like you found just the right things to decorate your corner… i like the fabric on the chair!
Today I did my Goodwill run and I got some neat treasures. I found a cute shelf like the one you have above your desk in the post. Mine is white wicker. I got it for $3.99. Enjoyed your pictures. Love & blessings from NC!

Empty corner…what’s that, lol?! I love your chair with nailhead trim…thinking of giving that a try to a chair I’m planning on giving a little make-over to.
I love the curtains. I wish I could find them
The chair is perfect and it even has a touch of aqua. Love it and how you’ve added aqua accents in that room.
We have TJMAXX here and they don’t have as much as the bigger Home Goods stores but still have some great deals.
Love that cozy corner!
