The Berry Bible Giveaway

{Giveaway is Closed}

Another berry book was sent to me (for free) for review and one of YOU can win a copy too!  This one is called The Berry Bible.

Written by Janie Hibler, a Bon Appetit magazine contributor and winner of the James Beard Book Award for her cookbook, Wild About Game,  The Berry Bible serves up 38 berry varieties, from well-known raspberries and Marion blackberries to lesser known ground-cherries and hardy kiwis.  The result is a mouth-watering recipe collection geared to today’s cooks, from those who want quick and easy, to those seeking sleek sophistication.

This is truly the A-Z Berry Encyclopedia, with berries that I’m sure you’ve never heard of.  I sure had never heard of the Buffalo Berry. 🙂

From all the health benefits of berries, to 175 recipes of Coolers and Drinks, Breads, Soups and Salads, Main Courses, Sauces, Putting Berries Up, Ice Creams and Sorbets, Pies and Tarts, Cakes and Pastries, this pretty paperbook has berries covered.

Now, I will say I was a little disappointed that there are no color photographs inside.  In fact, there are no photographs at all, just text and LOTS of recipes, but I still think you’ll enjoy it if you love berries.

And I do!  If you’d like to win a copy of the book for yourself, just leave a comment telling me YOUR favorite berry.  I think mine is probably the beautiful blueberry and from the other cookbook giveaway, I think a lot of you feel the same way.

    Dewberries! The vines grow wild here in most woods, fields, and just about any uncultivated, unmowed area. They were a childhood favorite and make a great cobbler! Thanks for the opportunity, Rhoda.

    It is definitely hard to choose, but I guess it would have to be the blueberry. You just wash them and pop them in your mouth! Or, there is always jam, luscious desserts, top on ice cream, etc.!

    It’s so hard to pick! We recently picked 27 lbs. of blueberries to freeze. We all love them. I love all kinds of berries, but I guess I will pick that one. A close 2nd is the strawberry.

    Hi Rhoda-

    I love berries and they are so good for us too. My favorite- blackberries freshly picked. Yummmm!

    My neighborhood had a yard sale this weekend which made me think of you and your Monday link party. I rode my bike around to see if I could find any treasures, I did. A beautiful white soup tureen. I had to take my bike home and walk back so I could get the tureen home in one piece. Hopefully it will inspire me to start on my dining room makeover.

    My best- Diane

    I love so many berries, but those lucious blackberries always bring back wonderful memories of picking them out in the country with my Mamaw (really southern term for Grandmother). Afterwards we would wash them and pick through them then cover them in sugar. then she would roll out one of the flakiest crusts ever to go over a huge dish of those juicy berries. Her blackberry cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream was the bane of my existence back then. And though I’ve tried and tried, I’ve never quite gotten the blackberry cobbler to taste quite like Mamaws. Maybe it tasted sweeter and more satisfying back then becauseof the hard work that went into to — walking in the heat on country roads for what seemed like hours to get to the blackberries, being stung by wasps and bees while picking them, then walking back home with our buckets of them.

    Sorry to my home state, which grows a lot of blueberries, but my favorite type are raspberries. Though, every berry is delicious and I wouldn’t turn my nose up at any of them. That cookbook sounds wonderful!
