Last week was actually a fun thrifting week for me. I went out on Wednesday with my good friend, Vicki, to the Cartersville Habitat Restore to see what they might have that I would be interested in. Everything was 1/2 price, then an extra 20% off for senior citizens.
Ummmm, I’m embracing my senior status these days and taking those discounts. Are you? Yep, I will admit to being 55 if it gets me a discount any day. I found this adorable little armillary lamp for $2. No shade, but I took care of that at Ballard’s on Friday. I paid $18 for the shade, but I figured a $20 lamp wasn’t a bad deal. And besides, that shade is so darn cute. I love armillary shapes and this one was too adorable and classic to pass up. I will find a spot for it!
These curtain rods will be put to good use too. The larger one was $3 and the small one was a mere $1. I may paint them, we’ll see where they end up. Curtain rods are expensive to buy.
Then on Friday, I met up with some bloggers here in Atlanta and we had lunch and hit the Ballard Designs outlet in Roswell. You never know what you’ll find in there at any given time. Last time I went in there, I brought home 2 light fixtures.
This time, I brought home another one. And boy, did I hit the jackpot on this one.
Like, the deal of the century jackpot.
My friends tell me I can sniff out the bargains wherever I am. I do believe they may be right. This has happened to me so many times over the years. Technically, this is not a thrifty treasure bought 2nd hand, but I’m breaking my own rule on this one.
This cute guy is Tim and he works at Ballard’s. He is my friend now. I was walking through the lighting peering up at all of them, when this one caught my eye. I was squinting trying to read the price tag, but couldn’t quite make it out. I thought I saw a 3 and a 2, but wasn’t sure what it said. Tim jumped up on a pile of rugs to read it for me.
$32 he said.
WHAT?
That has to be wrong, he thought so too, but checked with another guy who seemed to have some clout. The guy said, yep she can have it for that, it might be marked wrong, and it might have been here awhile, but it’s marked, so we’ll give it to her.
YAY! I’ll take it, I scream….$32 is a steal for this $400+ light fixture. Cute Tim took it to the front for me. When I got up there, the same guy who had OK’d the price took off an additional 75% (because that is what lighting is marked right now) and….drumroll please……I got this beauty for $8.
I know. Hate me now! I do believe it will go in my living room.
Lookie here! This is a pic I took at the Ballards house at Serenbe a few weeks ago. There is is, looking beautiful in this bedroom!

Several of us Atlanta home bloggers got together for an outing last week. In fact, if you are in Atlanta and want to join our Facebook page, please let me know and I’ll send you the link. Great way for bloggers in the area so get together and socialize.
I had on my ambassador role hat for Hometalk going on and gave all the girls t-shirts and we wore them while shopping Ballard’s. If you haven’t visited Hometalk, you must! Great place to share your projects, things you are proud of, your home pics, or if you have questions about anything, you can ask away over there. There are plenty of professionals and home owners who will be happy to jump in and help. As a blogger, you’ll get a ton of exposure for your blog projects and house sharing. House sharing is encouraged!
What’s not to love about that?
Jump on over to Hometalk and join the fun! In fact, if you want to have a Hometalk party of your own, go here for all the details. Hometalk will send you some free goodies for you and your group and you can host your own party too.
So, back to last week’s Thrifty Treasures party, here are a few that caught my eye.
See how April at A Heart’s Desire scored a FREE island!! Yes, free, that’s the best kind of frugal. They had to do a little repair on it, but wow, is it pretty now.
Cheerful Thrifty took home 63 pieces of Staffordshire English ironstone transferware for $15. WOW, that’s a great deal!
What’s with the freebies last week? Debbie at Refresh Restyle, scored big time on this vintage sofa for FA-REEEEE (is that Duncan Phyfe style, Debbie?). Love how she made it over, it’s a beauty now.
Kim at Reposhture painted an older piece in this pretty two-toned finish. I’m seeing more and more older pieces done this way and it’s really eye-catching. She got this piece along with a table and chairs at Goodwill several years ago, all for $50. I’d say she got her money’s worth!
Another 2-toned beauty, My Passion for Décor, took a peeling Craigslist dresser and revamped it into a thing of beauty and usefulness using Annie Sloan chalk paint.
Five Eleven Décor shows all the fun stuff you can find while thrifting, all in one day. Love this stash of goodies!
Did you score something fun this week too?
There are a TON of parties out there to highlight all your projects, so please let’s keep this one about thrifty finds that were bought 2nd hand! Not a great sale from the store, or a recipe, or just a plain project, but 2nd Hand finds only! And please DO NOT go back in your archives to OLD posts and link up. Let’s keep this party fresh and current! If you have already shared your find in a previous party, DON’T share it again! Please, girls, I don’t want to have to delete links.
- Add your permalink to the link list, which is the actual post that you did for this party, NOT your general blog url. To get the actual post, after you publish the post, just click on the title and THAT will be your party post url. PLEASE try to get the correct url in the first time!
- Please add my button to your post or blog OR at least link back to this post in your post. That’s all I ask. It’s common courtesy to link back to the person having the party, so that all of your readers can find it too.
- Please do NOT link to an Etsy shop or something similar (even if you think it’s a fabulous deal) or I will delete the link. This party is for sharing thrifty finds from yardsales, thriftstores, or something along those lines. If I see that your post is not really on track with this theme AND you don’t link back, I’ll delete your link. Sorry, but I’d like to keep the party consistent!
IF YOU SEE THAT YOUR LINK HAS BEEN DELETED, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN LINE WITH THIS PARTY THEME.
Again this year, I’ll be highlighting great finds from the party, so if you want your find highlighted, PLEASE link back to the party. Only those who link back will be considered for highlighting the next week. Thanks!
Love your blog but was wondering if there is any way to stop the pop up ads that are interfering all of a sudden? It doesn’t happen to me on any other sites.
Hi, Stephanie, I’m trying to find out which ones are popping up, so if you know the position of the popups, please let me know. I am not supposed to be getting popups from Blogher, so if you will tell me that, I’d love to try to stop them.
It is Blogher TV. Thanks! Love everything you are doing and what a great experience with your Mom and Dad. You will have such special memories in every corner of your wonderful home. Thanks for sharing all of it with us.
Okay, it’s official! You WIN at thrifting!!!! That is the cutest fixture. Way to go!
So much fun to see the deals you got. You have a good eye and keen sense of the thrifty! Thanks for hosting the link up for us. Look forward to everyone’s posts.

Sista, you got the deal of the century!!!!!! What a total Spave! (that’s spending/saving combined). You go girl!
Wow! That was a super deal on the beautiful light!!! Those are the deals that add fuel to the thrftin’ hunt, aren’t they??? 🙂
I heard that you are coming to the Southern Bloggers Conference in October in NC! Can’t wait to meet you in person! Looking so forward to the conference!
What a great score you made!! That lamp is going to look amazing in your new home : o )
I live in Cartersville and was in the Habitat Restore last week and didn’t find anything worth carrying out of there. I was so disappointed. I’ve been a junker and bargain shopper for years and that’s pretty bad when I don’t find anything to repurpose and redo. Glad you found something worth buying. That was a really good deal on the little lamp and the lamp shade you found looks terrific with it. Will keep searching though. Half the fun is in the hunt! Proud to be following along on your journey with your new house. I’ve followed you for several years and I believe this house will be better than the Birmingham house.
Hi Rhoda! Oh, you gals looks cute in your matching tees! Wish I lived close so I could come along. Now you really must be the queen of bargains. Your little lamp and shade are so cute but to find that chandy and actually only pay $8 – I think God is showering down blessings on you! 🙂 I love it.
be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
I’m still in awe of your crazy chandelier steal! I went back in after everyone left and picked up one of the drying racks for $30. I couldn’t resist. 🙂 Can’t wait til our next meetup!
I’ve always loved that light fixture! What a find!! Lucky, lucky you!
Why are all the good bargain places in the south? I’m green with envy. Fabulous buy Rhoda.
I am loving this party! Each week I am thinking about what thrifty treasure I can link up. I love this concept and I loveseeing what others are finding! Thank you!
Are you kidding me? $8!!! That’s amazing and a beautiful light.
FOR THE WIN!!! That’s amazing. Not only did you get a fabulous light at an AMAZING price but now when everyone compliments it in your new house you can saw…oh yeah, and I only paid $8 for it. How cool! Cute Tim from Ballard looks like Michael Phelps the swimmer.
Yikes, Rhoda! What a SCORE! I was sorry to miss the Ballards outing (may have to go on my own!) but a weekend at the lake was worth it. 🙂
Great features ~ Debbie’s sofa is unbelievable!

Rhoda…God’s hand of blessing is on you in a big way. I’m sooo thrilled for you. Isn’t he amazing with how he redeems what was lost? And wowie…all these wonderful new friends you’re making. Your sundae has lots of cherries.
Hope your day is Extraordinary – just like you!!
WOO HOO! There truly are so many treasures hidden in the outlet location in Roswell. We LOVE that you found the Laurenza Chandelier that is featured in the Bosch Net Zero home in Serenbe – we know it will look FAB in your new home and can’t wait to see how you use it. The best of luck to you, Rhoda!

The outing to Ballard’s was a lot of fun, especially seeing you blessed with such a deal! By the way, I think the link on Jennifer’s name is messed up. Looking forward to our next outing.
