A few months ago, I talked about doing less blogging and pulling away from posting almost every. single. day. So, I’m about to do that.
We all know how blogs can take over our lives and I just don’t want that to be the case, so I’m taking a step back to give myself some breathing room. Not stopping, just cutting back and not putting pressure on myself to come up with entertaining posts every day of the week. A little slower pace. Maybe one or 2 less posts a week.
Can you relate??
(And because I love pretty pics, this is a pretty pic that I saved when I was thinking about doing my stairs and adding a runner, not sure the source).
Here’s what I would love to hear from all of YOU? Are there some specific decorating topics (or non-decorating) that you’d like to talk about. I would love for you to throw some ideas my way. I think most every topic has been covered in blogland, but perhaps there are a few things that you are curious about or would like to see some posts on. I’d love some new ideas, so throw them out there!
My blog is not the blog that will come up with fabulous craft ideas OR decorating projects every single week. It’s just not realistic for me and as much as I love to improve my house, I cannot do it all the time. I will always have a list of projects and little things I’d like to get accomplished, much like all of you, I’m sure. And when I do them, of course I’ll share with all of you.
So, how about it? What are some decorating topics you’d LOVE to see covered? I’ve got my pen out. 🙂
I’ll make a list and these can be some of the things that I can pull ideas from and hopefully we can have some fun with it.
One idea I had was to take a photo from a magazine and try to come up with some budget items to do that room in a similar style, to get the look for less. I think that would be fun to tackle, so that might be one thing I look into doing.

I had a wonderful time on Saturday at the Eutaw, AL Historic home tour and took a TON of pics that I’ll be sharing along the way. I’ll do them a group at a time, so be on the lookout for the first group this week.

Rhoda,
I’ve enjoyed your blog for quite awhile but rarely comment. I enjoy decorating topics, but most of all, I’ve enjoyed your recipe sharing. The ones that I’ve been fortunate enough to read, I’ve tried. You are a good cook. I’d love to have more of your recipes and food pics shared if you don’t mind! That is something that we all have to do each week unlike constantly decorating which isn’t realistic.
I totally understand where you are coming from in slowing down with your blogging. No matter, your followers will always be here. A blog shouldn’t control us, we should control it. 🙂 Best of luck to you blog friend.

I hear ya Rhoda. This does take up a lot of time and eventually I am going to have to cut back, too. I need to take care of some things around here. I will run out of things if I don’t watch out any way.

I understand totally the need to step back and enjoy life and your family! I need to do that with Facebook! I’ve always enjoyed reading your blog and will continue to do so. I like the idea of taking a photo from a magazine and doing a budget friendly version. I’m all about being thrifty. Maybe you could also do it with some photos for clothing too. Your recipes are also always wonderful and I have tried a few of them and saved many to try one day. Also doing something like a book club might be kind of fun! Just a suggestion!
Enjoy your break! You deserve it!

Good for you! I have wondered for a while how you keep up…….always managing to come up with new and inspiring ideas. Enjoy your life and relax, you deserve it!
I have scaled way back with posting and it’s ok. I have too many other things to do around here as I’m sure you do too.
You have tons of fans and we will all still be here!♥
As for ideas, I’ll let ya know when I think of some. LOL

I’m glad you are making this decision to take some pressure off of you. I did the same thing a couple of years ago and it’s nice to ‘relax’ a bit with my blog. Sometimes I blog every day for a bit and then I slow down when needed. I love your idea of sharing a photo and then suggestions to do the same on a budget. I’d like to hear your ideas for a small house with rooms that aren’t large. Will be watching for the next edition of your blog.

What about doing a linky party every week? Maybe a redecorating project, or furniture refinishing. People seem to really like those.

I can TOTALLY relate. Go. Have time to yourself. I love your blog and your style. I’d like to see some more features on accessorizing. Well, because I stink at it. I like the simple clean style, but still need to know how to add in those accessories that give the room the finished style.

Hi Rhoda! Oh, I do understand about cutting back. I’ve tried! When I first started blogging, I thought I had to post every day! I’ve cut back to about two to three days a week now. It’s so addicting!!
I love your blog although I don’t always comment on every post! I was reading your blog long before I started myself and felt I knew you! 🙂
I can’t think of anything specific to mention, but I do love your decorating posts of all kinds!!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉

For future post topics, I like your idea getting the “look” on a budget. I am also interested in easy/fast/inexpensive ways to update a room you like but that may be a bit dated. I did a complete re-do of my house when we bought in in 1997 but am afraid it is starting to look rather lost in time. And something else I’d really like to see is “curb appeal” before and afters.

I totally understand. Before you know it, it becomes addicting. I had to cut back on posting to mine too.

We will read your blog no matter how often you post! You deserve a break for sure. I too enjoy the recipe posts. I forwarded your pecan pie muffins on to my mom. I feel like your blog is my own daily dose of Southern Living. I like reading about your life so you could include more about yourself. I like the clothing idea that was mentioned – maybe just good finds on clothes or shoes. Nobody is expecting a project or craft every week – who can keep up with that? Well, some people might be able to but I think balance is important. 🙂

Hi Rhoda!
I like your decorating posts, but my favorite posts are the ones showing your shopping excursions, cooking with your mother, and traveling. I know you can’t travel all the time, but maybe you have some archived pictures that may inspire a some posts.
I always appreciate your advice, whether it is about home decor, blogging, shopping or a product endorsement. I’ve bought from many of your advertisers.
I’m glad you are only stepping back and not leaving altogether. It saddens me when I lose a blogger friend.
Have a great week! La

Decorating ideas on a budget. How to take yard sale or as my friend says junkin items and make them new. Also, receipes are always good. I just found out about your site and it is really interesting. Keep up the good work and take a break whenever you have the urge!!!

Rhoda…I’ll give it some thought – generally people seem to like “before and afters”. In the meantime, thanks for the inspiration. I used (and gave you guys credit) the photo of the chest from ABC Home and Carpet in my post today. I used it together with two other pieces of furniture that were related and then again not really. Thank you…Diane

Well I can just speak for myself, but I hope you do what you need to do so that you keep posting. I would be so disappointed if you gave it up altogether. Two blogs that I have followed faithfully have just up and quit and I miss them terribly. Isn’t it funny how attached we become to you bloggers? I agree with Rita above. I love your recipes. So, more of them would be very welcome. Also, how about reposting segments from when you first started? I am sure there are some I haven’t seen since I have only been reading your blog for about a year and a half. Maybe there are some fan favorites :). Anything you write about is interesting and very readable. I agree that it is important for you to take time for you and your family. We will always be here!

I would love to hear some ideas for TODDLER FRIENDLY decorating. With two small boys in my house, all of my pretty knickknacks are shut safely away. Vignettes? If it looks at all new or interesting, it’s suddenly a Priority Level One plaything. So my house is pretty bare. What are some virtually indestructible accessories or methods of display that will help me customize my blank canvas without adding to the every growing to-be-repaired pile?
Best of luck with your transition for the blog!

I’ve always loved the pictures you take of your shopping trips ~ especially the fun & unique flea markets & antique spots! I also really like the idea of taking a room & replicating it with more ‘real’ pieces. I love your blog & I’ll continue reading no matter how often you post 🙂

How about ideas on how to redo or renew a room in stages…spend a bit now and bit more later? I get overwhelmed with the idea of redecorating and because of the expense of money, energy, and time, am afraid to make a mistake. I also like your recipes, your trips, and love seeing a bit of your family.

Rhoda, spoke with you on Saturday at the Eutaw tour of homes. I am in erosion in the one story Victorian on main street. I was telling you about my contractor, Gary Wilson, and his helper is Jammie Jones. Not Jammie Smith. Sorry, hope you will be able to correct this. It was good to have you in our home, hope you enjoyed your visit. Thanks and take care. Carole Fleming

Rhoda, seems my iPhone changed some of my text. I was trying to tell you contractor’s helper is Jammie Jones not Jammie Smith. Thanks again for your visit. C
