A few months ago, I talked about doing less blogging and pulling away from posting almost every. single. day. So, I’m about to do that.
We all know how blogs can take over our lives and I just don’t want that to be the case, so I’m taking a step back to give myself some breathing room. Not stopping, just cutting back and not putting pressure on myself to come up with entertaining posts every day of the week. A little slower pace. Maybe one or 2 less posts a week.
Can you relate??
(And because I love pretty pics, this is a pretty pic that I saved when I was thinking about doing my stairs and adding a runner, not sure the source).
Here’s what I would love to hear from all of YOU? Are there some specific decorating topics (or non-decorating) that you’d like to talk about. I would love for you to throw some ideas my way. I think most every topic has been covered in blogland, but perhaps there are a few things that you are curious about or would like to see some posts on. I’d love some new ideas, so throw them out there!
My blog is not the blog that will come up with fabulous craft ideas OR decorating projects every single week. It’s just not realistic for me and as much as I love to improve my house, I cannot do it all the time. I will always have a list of projects and little things I’d like to get accomplished, much like all of you, I’m sure. And when I do them, of course I’ll share with all of you.
So, how about it? What are some decorating topics you’d LOVE to see covered? I’ve got my pen out. 🙂
I’ll make a list and these can be some of the things that I can pull ideas from and hopefully we can have some fun with it.
One idea I had was to take a photo from a magazine and try to come up with some budget items to do that room in a similar style, to get the look for less. I think that would be fun to tackle, so that might be one thing I look into doing.

I had a wonderful time on Saturday at the Eutaw, AL Historic home tour and took a TON of pics that I’ll be sharing along the way. I’ll do them a group at a time, so be on the lookout for the first group this week.

Wow, I don’t know how you post every day. If I do 3 in a week I think I have done good. I always enjoy all of our posts, so whatever you feel like posting about I am sure will be interesting. Hugs, Marty

I couldn’t agree with you more on time/blogging. One can get so easily caught up in it all! I completely understand the change and more power to you. I feel like most go through something like that. I mean, how many times can you blog about something right?
But for some reason, we keep reading 😉
Organization is always something people strive for. I love that idea about the magazine. Style for cheap!
thanks for all you do!

Good for you Rhoda! I think your blog was one of the first that got me hooked on blogging and I have always enjoyed reading your posts and still will . Actually it may make it easier on me too as I want to read so many different bloggers posts so I don’t miss anything so it will be a few less to read!

I have to say that I’m really proud of you for making this decision, Rhoda! I will be delighted to read your posts no matter how often or how rarely you post.
I like your idea of creating a designer look for less. I’d also be interested in seeing how you update a look over the years without getting rid of everything you own. For example, you recently mentioned changing your kitchen window treatments. Perhaps you could tell how you decide upon new fabrics and styles and how those will work with the existing elements in the room.
Good luck! God bless you as you decide just how much to post. 🙂

Rhoda, I applaud you being able to know when you need to slow down and take a breather. Good for you. I love all your posts- you take great pictures, and have inspired me so much.
It might be great to take a single item and show different ways to showcase it….ceiling treatments. Not just paint, but some creative things to do with the fifth space 🙂
Denise says
oops, I reread that after I hit submit! That’s supposed to be two separate thoughts there! showcasing different singular items AND also ceiling treatment ideas! 🙂 LOL!

I completely understand about the blogging. I always wondered how so many bloggers could post so much and do other things too. I haven’t been blogging very long but I already have trouble keeping up. That can’t be good huh?
Your blog was one of the first I came across and really enjoy reading it. So whenever you post is great for me!
I like the idea of decorating a room in stages. I’m a slow decorator and tend to build it over time. That makes it hard to blog about it when you don’t feel like it’s done. Then again, is it ever really done? lol

HI Rhoda..I love that you are honest with yourself..& Im a ferm believer that bloging shouldn’t make you feel preshured. I blog when I have something to say .. I don’t TRY to find something to say…thats always how I have managed it.
Your blog has been on my reader list for quite sometime now & I enjoy all of your posts – I truely do!
One thing I would love to figure out about decorating is how to make open floor plans flow nicely into the next room – How to get rooms to relate to each other. ( can you guess my house has an open floor plan..lolol) –
Keep up the great work Rhoda!
& Im sooo glad your not going to quit blogging all together!!!

I wish more bloggers would follow suit and cut back on their blog posts. I just can’t physically read that many blogs each day. There are just not enough hours in the day!!! I love your blog and always enjoy your posts, but fewer each week would be great!!! I love your decorating ideas… especially when you show yard sale items and what you have done with them. I enjoy your recipes too. Plus, I love the family stories you share about your sweet parents. Love & blessings from NC!

Good for you!! Maybe you could just offer up other ways you make your house a home? Decorating our homes our so important, but there are other wonderful things that make them homes, too. Recipes, family traditions, etc. 🙂
I am young and newly married and I love receiving advice from wiser women. Enjoy your break!

Hi there. I’ve been a lurker for quite sometime. I thoroughly enjoy all the posts you’ve shared. I’m a picture person, and I love when you post pictures of inspiration like in this post. Gives me some eye candy to motivate me. Maybe perhaps more eye candy with decorating tips. Especialy for the holidays. I’m always in need of ideas in how to place things, how to decorate mantels for the holidays. Oooh and how about a garden theme. I have this section in my side yard where my family window looks out onto. Don’t know what to do there. I need an expensive but fun and cool tip on what to do with a small area that backs up to a boring brick wall??? Suggestions! I was thinking of an old hutch and placing all kinds of pots and sorts…but don’t even know where to begin. Anyway, you’re doing great and I love what you continually share with us. Totally understand about stepping back. I feel you! Thanks

Why don’t you do a personal favorites series? Your favorite – breakfast, coffee maker, vase, fall flower, etc. Just a peek into your world and the things that bring you beauty and comfort? This wouldn’t require extra prep time and your readers will likely enjoy it.
I understand about posting less often. I had to do that for a month. Three days a week, Monday -Wednesday- Friday, worked very well. I took weekends off. I only had to come with a post every other day and I had one day to edit. I did not lose total readers, although traffic did drop off.

I totally understand about cutting back! There is just not enough time to get to everyone and see all that I want to see and post too, and then, Oh Yeah, I like have a life outside of blogworld too! LOL! I would love to see someone host a weekly, biweekly, monthly party whatever that features a different room or area of the house each time. That way when I want extra inspiration on a room I get to see hundreds of “dens” or “dining rooms” in one area. And this host MUST,MUST,MUST have an easy link to find older parties on their side bar. Iknow these have been done randomly by several others but not one blog that I know of that I can always come to find the rooms I am looking for at the time.

I would love to see a post about frequently asked questions (FAQ). Just a thought… I’m pretty new to blogging and love it when bloggers post FAQ. Maybe 20 FAQ on a post?
I also LOVE the idea of recipes. I was only able to find BLOG LAND because I have been laid off from work (since March)… but as soon as I find another job, it will be less BLOG LAND for me. I do have several favorites, yours is one of them…. and I even started my own blog but that was only because I was posting “stuff” on Facebook that I thought people might not be interested in. I don’t know how all these bloggers keep up with so many posts.
I will always have you as one of my favorites as long as you decided to continue blogging…..
Take time, enjoy your life and as one previous posted mentioned, you control your blog and don’t let it control you.
Hugs and Blessings to you….

I can relate, Rhoda, and am actually not having any choice in that regard this month. I have had so many client calls for consultations, which I have to fit in around the day job so that means evenings or weekend mornings; I have an adult ed class that I teach at our high school for Spring and Fall happening this month; mix in doctor’s appointments, and just getting the outside tucked in for the winter months and I’m already exhausted! The blog is the thing that has to be pushed to the side.

I just recently found your blog and already I’m thinking I’ll go through withdrawal if there isn’t a new posting everyday! But I understand how time consuming it must be to prepare a topic and get it written. I’ve loved your recipes so far so I’d like to see more of that type of post. I also like info. about small, do-able projects…..things I may actually be able to accomplish at my skill level. Thanks for everything!!!

Rhoda, I’ve wondered how you do this! Yours is always the first blog I read each morning and I don’t see how you’ve kept the pace of posting every working day and sometimes on Saturday. Thanks for all your hard work!
I’d love to see a post on taking care of orchids. You mentioned that you love them too and have gotten some information on caring for them?
I’d also love to get ideas on storing Christmas decorations.
Take a break! Thanks again.

Oh my goodness Rhoda! White talking on the phone with my friend Rita last night, I made a comment on your post. I just realized I called you Rita in my comment! Is my face red? I guess this proves I am not a multitasker!
Nishi says
OH NO!!! What I am going to read every day??? on one hand I am little sad that you won’t be writting everyday but on other hand I totally understand your need to keep things in prospective. I really enjoy your blog and I WILL have withdrawls but I will survive lol!!!!!
As to what we would like to talk about well how about talking about organinzing things in your home or some of your yummy recipes or doing linky parties for different decorating projects ( LOVE Linky parties).
Rhoda says
Aww, ya’ll are just the best readers out there! Thanks for all the ideas and supportive comments. You may not notice me blogging less for a week or 2, since I have several things saved up to post, but this will give me breathing room that I really need to take for myself.

Good for you Rhoda……we all need more time to smell the roses. I always cut back reading/blogging in the (our) summer. In the Winter when we’re snowed in it’s a great place to pass the time, connect and learn some new things. Thank you for all the time you’ve put in I can honestly say yours is one of my fave blogs. As for ideas, I love the new recipes you throw our way….so those are always welcome. I love your family stories. You can count on me to pop in now and again to check out what you’re up to….
All the best to you and yours girlfriend….
xo Kathy 🙂
