A few months ago, I talked about doing less blogging and pulling away from posting almost every. single. day. So, I’m about to do that.
We all know how blogs can take over our lives and I just don’t want that to be the case, so I’m taking a step back to give myself some breathing room. Not stopping, just cutting back and not putting pressure on myself to come up with entertaining posts every day of the week. A little slower pace. Maybe one or 2 less posts a week.
Can you relate??
(And because I love pretty pics, this is a pretty pic that I saved when I was thinking about doing my stairs and adding a runner, not sure the source).
Here’s what I would love to hear from all of YOU? Are there some specific decorating topics (or non-decorating) that you’d like to talk about. I would love for you to throw some ideas my way. I think most every topic has been covered in blogland, but perhaps there are a few things that you are curious about or would like to see some posts on. I’d love some new ideas, so throw them out there!
My blog is not the blog that will come up with fabulous craft ideas OR decorating projects every single week. It’s just not realistic for me and as much as I love to improve my house, I cannot do it all the time. I will always have a list of projects and little things I’d like to get accomplished, much like all of you, I’m sure. And when I do them, of course I’ll share with all of you.
So, how about it? What are some decorating topics you’d LOVE to see covered? I’ve got my pen out. 🙂
I’ll make a list and these can be some of the things that I can pull ideas from and hopefully we can have some fun with it.
One idea I had was to take a photo from a magazine and try to come up with some budget items to do that room in a similar style, to get the look for less. I think that would be fun to tackle, so that might be one thing I look into doing.

I had a wonderful time on Saturday at the Eutaw, AL Historic home tour and took a TON of pics that I’ll be sharing along the way. I’ll do them a group at a time, so be on the lookout for the first group this week.

Rhoda….. yours was one of the first blogs I ever read, and hooked me immmediately…. your “adventures” out and about… your family news and fun, and of course, I LOVE your recipes…. thanks for the smiles, laughs , and your wonderful decor ideas…. it makes it so special to see what a decorator does in her own home, and I thank you for letting us visit you this way….I ‘m planning for sure that that one of the future visits to B”Ham , I will get to meet you, (as well as our hubs… who would hit it off too!)Who knows, we may even be looking for a church home there before too long…. wouldn’t that be great to share too? Enjoy some well deserved break time…. and we’ll look forward to everything you post!

I can totally relate, Rhoda!
Oddly enough, since the big back porch blog dilemma of 2010, I’ve done more posts per week. I don’t know what that’s about!;-) Most are quick, have taken little effort and the subjects are close to my heart and not forced. My kind of blogging…laid back.
I like your magazine photo idea. Sounds like fun.

Yours was the first blog I ever read. But I can understand about needing to take a break. I have yet to even start blogging on my website! So, take a break and I’ll be here when you come back.

I’m for decorating ‘touches’ that don’t cost a lot of $$. Ideas that “copy” the expensive eye-candy catalogues. I am not someone who is constantly moving stuff around or redoing or making over, but I do like to change out things like candles, small pics, rugs, door wreaths, etc.. Once I find something I like it’s hard for me to move it or get rid of it! Have only followed your site for a short while, but have grown to love it. 🙂

I love reading your blog. I agree with the previous posters that taking a break is always a great idea. 🙂 The web will always be around, so enjoy your time off.
In terms of blogging daily though, I learned a very helpful tip from another blogger, scheduling posts. It helps with planning entries and ensuring that you have content without the daily pressure. 😀

Rhoda,
I’ve been a reader of your blog for a couple years and what drew me to your blog first was your location: The SOUTH! I specifically seek out and find blogs from the South as I love to see and read anything about it. I love your posts that show pictures of old homes around you.
And, I think your recipes are wonderful! I know you are not a food blog, but I make and share your recipes a lot. Also, your posts with your parents are precious and your mom’s food sounds delish!
What if you had posts featuring your mother cooking some great dishes? We need to learn from her generation. I don’t have my grandmothers and how I wish that I had learned more from them while they were alive.

I agree! I love all the decorating but some of my favorite post are about your travels, ANYTHING Southern, recipes etc. As a Northern girl living in the Boondocks I really love to hear all about your Southern Adventures! Enjoy your slow down, we all know how it feels!

I so can relate to stepping back. It gets to be the same ole thing in blogland…your right there are only so many things to create. I do love your blog and have enjoyed it over the last couple of years. I myself have been a lost for words in the last month or so with my blog. I just don’t feel like there is much I can say. Well I could share I have been so lazy about doing anything, this summer heat has wore me down, but you know how the heat in the South has been.
Oh and I was going to blog about SEC football but us Dogs have been nothing to blogworthy lately. So sorry about your lost over the weekend…it was a shock to a lot of folks.
Basically I love food blogs but it would be nice to have linky parties where one post could be on a specfic…main dish, salads, breads….with the holidays coming up I would love to be able to come to a blog where I could search a recipe for just side dishes one week then I would be able to find a few in one spot and not all over the web. I love baking deserts during the holidays and with so many ladies here I know that would be a great post…so I guess like breaking it up as a cookbook post once a week. I would actually join in on that post since that is my love. Cooking & Baking.
Another thing I would love to read about is family traditions…I love seeing what new ideas I could do for my family to make memories for my little one. Something we started for my third child since my children are separted by age so far apart (12yrs between my 3). The gingerbread houses are done on New Years Day to end/start the year off right.
Can’t wait to see what topics you will choose to do..

Hi, Rhoda! Your blog is one of my favorites and I’ve been following it for a long time. Some suggestions I would be interested in would be: using accessories in different ways and in different rooms, decorating a bookcase; easy, tasty recipes; shopping at thrift stores and antique shops, decorating for holidays, adding some “oomph” to a tired room inexpensively, tips on decorating in general. Thanks for your hard work!

I love your blog! I’d like to see posts about ideas for things to place on walls and how to do it. (I absolutely love your white dishes in the DR). Also, posts on suggestions for wall colors, etc. and, specifically whites. I would love the budget room ideas.

Hi Rhoda,
I would like to see you do a post on what is in and what is out or on it’s way out. And have you ever thought of decorating a church and what colors you would use today and what not? Carpet, walls, etc? I would love to hear your opinions on that. Not sure if it would be a popular enough topic for a whole post on it’s own, but our church is hoping to build new in the next year and I would love to know what is in and what is not and what others are doing today in church decor.
I completely understand you wanting to cut back on posts, goodness, I could never keep up with you. I am going to cut back, that is for certain.
Hugs, Cindy

I am fond of the thrifting posts along with showing pictures when you go somewhere exciting (football game, etc). I also like posts where people just show subtle changes in their house – “moved this picture to this wall, because it’s scale is better on that wall” type things.

Your blog was the 2nd blog I introduced myself to! Have enjoyed your posts so very much! Will miss you, but totally understand where you are coming from!
Take care!

I enjoy your blog posts every time, but I most enjoy your trips, house tours and other various adventures. I totally understand about not wanting to post every single day – I’ve gotten bad about posting too – but after spending so much time in front of the computer during the daytime, it’s often hard to sit back down to post in the evening! I can definitely understand the need for a bit less blogging time. As for your question, I’d love less expensive ideas for decor photos from magazines. Also, I think it’d be fun to hear more about things you collect. I’m a fairly new reader and haven’t had time to try any of your recipes, but I’m all about trying new ones, so I won’t complain if you keep posting those!

I love your blog. The September Southern Living magazine did a piece on what is Southern. I loved it – Silver, old books, etc. It made me think that I like Southern Living’s decorating more than BHG’s or Sunset’s. So maybe a little series on what you think “Southern” is. Have a great day!

Rhoda,
You deserve a break, I didn’t know how you did all you did anyway! I enjoy all of the varied topics you’ve tackled and will read you whether you post daily or 2-3 times a week.
I would love to know more about your “neck of the woods” since I live in Southern California I would love to see where you shop for home accessories, what gardening in your area includes and of course, all of the wonderful tips you give us to make improvements using found treasures.

I would love to hear or see some ideas on wall unit display. Inside the cubbies, tops, etc….. I am stuck. I have a beautiful Tommy Bahama large wall unit, with 3 large open sections on top, and 2 glass sections along the sides. HELP? any ideas, besides books….
LOVE your blog!!

Hi Rhoda, I’m thinking maybe some ideas on fashion. You always look wonderful. Let us know how you do it. That would be fun! Don’t worry I think we all love you here in Blog Land and will still be waiting for your next post even if we have to wait a wee bit longer.

Drive bys or walk bys….I love when I see them on other blogs. Love looking at other people’s houses and imagining who lives there! OR, pictures of interiors of places that can inspire us in our decorating. I guess you could say I am nosey:):):) XO, Pinky

I started finding different decorating, thrift, great tasting recipes etc. about 2 yrs ago and I have to tell you I have found everything on your blog. You do such a great job covering so many things and on a budget. I’m not sure how you do it all, I can see why you need to slow down.
I would love for you to cover the things to stay away from when you are thrift shopping. I’m not comfortable buying bedding and throw pillows. I have seen such beautiful one but unsure how to clean them. I really like how you are able to buy something and turn it into something beautiful. Your recipes are wonderful and maybe you could share some of your mom’s too. Take Care!
