A few months ago, I talked about doing less blogging and pulling away from posting almost every. single. day. So, I’m about to do that.
We all know how blogs can take over our lives and I just don’t want that to be the case, so I’m taking a step back to give myself some breathing room. Not stopping, just cutting back and not putting pressure on myself to come up with entertaining posts every day of the week. A little slower pace. Maybe one or 2 less posts a week.
Can you relate??
(And because I love pretty pics, this is a pretty pic that I saved when I was thinking about doing my stairs and adding a runner, not sure the source).
Here’s what I would love to hear from all of YOU? Are there some specific decorating topics (or non-decorating) that you’d like to talk about. I would love for you to throw some ideas my way. I think most every topic has been covered in blogland, but perhaps there are a few things that you are curious about or would like to see some posts on. I’d love some new ideas, so throw them out there!
My blog is not the blog that will come up with fabulous craft ideas OR decorating projects every single week. It’s just not realistic for me and as much as I love to improve my house, I cannot do it all the time. I will always have a list of projects and little things I’d like to get accomplished, much like all of you, I’m sure. And when I do them, of course I’ll share with all of you.
So, how about it? What are some decorating topics you’d LOVE to see covered? I’ve got my pen out. 🙂
I’ll make a list and these can be some of the things that I can pull ideas from and hopefully we can have some fun with it.
One idea I had was to take a photo from a magazine and try to come up with some budget items to do that room in a similar style, to get the look for less. I think that would be fun to tackle, so that might be one thing I look into doing.

I had a wonderful time on Saturday at the Eutaw, AL Historic home tour and took a TON of pics that I’ll be sharing along the way. I’ll do them a group at a time, so be on the lookout for the first group this week.

I just began reading your blog a few weeks ago but understand the need to post less. Blogs do consume a lot of time. As I’m a newbie here, I’m not sure if you have already covered this topic such as how to find thrifting bargains and what to look for — quality over cheap stuff.

Dear Rhoda,
My mother grew up in the South and I did not, so I am especially drawn to things that evoke southern charm and grace; and your writing often shows a great deal of both. Your posts don’t have to be big projects for me to enjoy them. I love seeing glimpses of your southern hospitality when you write about church events, charitable efforts, family gatherings, cooking and meal planning, thrifty shopping, tips on where to buy things for reasonable prices; even how you stay fit and fab after 50 (because I am there with you!). And I appreciate that you have shared you are a Christian woman who has her priorities in the right order! So I will continue to enjoy your writing whether it be twice a week or five times a week! Thank you.

Rhoda, I am 100% behind you girl on cutting back some. Blogging should be fun and easy not something that robs you of your time and creativity! Love the topics you blog about – your furniture re-dos, recipes, travel photos, love it all!
Being a budget driven home decorator I really love to read about “getting the look for less”. Taking high end ideas (big or small) and duplicating them at a fraction of the costs. I also love to read about choosing fabrics for upholstered furniture – you know, how to mix textures, patterns, weights, etc. (every time I go into a fabric shop I leave frustrated and confused!)
Good luck with deciding how you want to “re-vamp”. I will still be a follower whether you post one time a week or 5!

Rhoda,
Good for you! Sometimes it’s best to slow down. Like some other posters mentioned- I don’t know how you manage as many posts as you do! I’m lucky if I get one or two done in a week. 🙂
I’ve been thinking about what I’d love to see on your blog….I like your idea of breaking down a designer room into more manageable pieces but I really liked someone’s suggestion of writing about the South. I’m a Northern girl and really don’t know anything about the South.
Have an awesome day!

I just discovered your blog maybe a month ago and have enjoyed it thoroughly. This may be a topic you’ve covered but I’d like to know how to coordinate decorating a large open main living space that includes kitchen which is completely open to dining room, breakfast room, entry and family room, which are all completely open to each other. The perimeter walls are builder beige and I’d like to add some color. Totally stumped.

Rhoda, I support you taking a break 100%, and am glad it is a partial break! I think we all enjoy your talents immensely; I like your articles on how you pull a room together – for example how you just updated your living room with just a few changes and little $$$. You have a great eye and any article on what works and what does not in a room is of interest to me. By the way, I was in Auburn this week and we flew in/out of Birmingham for the first time. Driving to the airport, I passed a HomeGoods and thought of you immediately! We didn’t have any time to stop in Birmingham but I loved the town nestled in those beautiful mountains! Diane

Rhoda, your blog was the first I discovered. I don’t have a blog, but I can imagine the amount of time required to blog as much as you do. While it is, I’m sure, a labor of love I can understand. I love everything you post and look forward to reading/seeing whatever you do. BTW, tell your hubby to hang in there with the TIDE. We aren’t finished yet!

Rhoda, I’ve been a follower for a while, because you post things that I really am interested in. I love the trips to see your Dad & Mom,your friend Debbie’s house, your get-together with neighbors. And who of us couldn’t use a good recipe every now and then. I’ve used a few of yours . We don’t get to travel as much as I wish, so interesting areas around you, would be neat to see. And one of these days, I’m going to redo my stairs, like you did, love that post! God Bless You, in whatever decision you make. But you’ve got a whole bunch of us, that really enjoy what you do. I want to start a blog, I’ve been tossing the idea around for some time, only thing is I don’t think I have enough interesting things going on in my every day life to post about. Cleaning out a Closet, Is that a post? Thank you for your time and sharing all the ideas with us.

Hi Rhoda!
You do stay busy with your blog, so I can see you definitely feeling the need to slow down. But, you know your many posts will be missed. As for ideas, I have always enjoyed your landscaping and holiday posts. Decorating both indoors and out for the different seasons and holidays is always appreciated.
I look forward to seeing what all you come up with.

I am fairly new to blogging – started last December – but I started out knowing that I would never be an everyday poster. And I think that is ok. I know you’ve been blogging for a much longer time and have a much more famous blog (although I only found you in the last 3 or 4 months or so despite the fact that I “think” we live fairly close). But I think it is perfectly acceptable and reasonable for you to slow down as well. Afterall, a blog is not our life. Your loyal readers will stick with you no matter what. Good luck!

I would love to see some ideas/examples of home offices, in particular offices for two people as my husband and I share our office and desperately need to get set up and organized in an attractive way.

I love your post on finding treasures at tag sales and the parties you have hosted.
It would be interesting to see where you treasures have “landed” in your home. Especially if the treasure has prompted you to redo an area in your home.

Rhoda-
It was nice to meet you this weekend. I hope you had a fabulous time in Eutaw. We sure appreciate you coming and visiting our small town.
As an avid blog reader, I totally believe that you should cut back, especially if you are beginning to feel burned out. Nothing makes you have more interested posts in my opinion than still having a passion for your blog. And that is just not possible if you are feeling burned out.
Have a great day!

Oh Rhoda, I so get it! I have cut back on my own blog and it is truly so freeing. It is not my job, nor my life, but rather a fun hobby that has enabled me to meet so many great people (like you) and explore new avenues. But a new topic every day? I just couldn’t do it anymore. The well dried up and rather than grasp at straws, I decided to scale back It’s not always an easy decision, but for me, it was the only decision to make.
Enjoy the fall and indulge in some late in the year gardening. Your readers will be waiting patiently.
Much love,
Linda

Rhoda, I know we can all relate!
I think DIY blogging comes most effortlessly for those that actually do these kinds of projects for a living. You’re doing it anyway so why not blog about it? I hope to be there one day myself. 🙂
Life is important. Go enjoy yours! And touch base when something awesome happens of course. We’ll be here with baited breath. 🙂 xo

Rhoda – I was never as ambitious as you have been, so I bow down! I only blog when I can. Sometimes it’s three or four times a week, and then other times it’s once a week. It all depends upon what’s going on in my life at the moment. When family and work get busy, my blog is the first thing to go. And I think that’s OK. So I encourage you to take all the wonderful suggestions you’ve gotten and run with them. You go girl!

Rhoda,
One thing I love about Southern decor is that it seems to blend vintage and traditional so well. I have been in my house for seven years and there are certain items that I have yet to grow tired of and they are mostly the “traditional” and the “vintage” items. From a decorating aspect, I would love to see you talk about how to blend these styles with out being too stuffy or too country. Just an idea!
Jane says
You are wise to prioritize how you spend your 24 hrs. each day. God only gives us so much time and how we choose to use each minute or hour defines what is truly important to us. Good for you! Why don’t you consider having some guest bloggers?? Many of my favorite blogs are moving in that direction and rather than decrease traffic, it has increased traffic! The blogger chooses only those compatible with her style and agrees to save her post as a draft so it can be reviewed by the blog host. This would cut down your posting tremendously and allow many of your followers to participate in your blog world. What better way to show some “southern hospitality”?????

Hey Rhoda
Your blog is amazing and has been my biggest inspiration. I have discovered the world of decorating/home blogs right here.
I enjoy reading your older posts as well so if you will blog once or twice a week, it will be easier for me to catch up 🙂
Cheers!
