Waynesville, NC Cottage Visit

Nothing like a girl’s weekend away for some rest and relaxation.  We got in both and had a great time browsing some thriftstores, eating lunch out in Asheville, and trying to figure out how to get some treasures home to Atlanta.

Staying at Angela’s beautiful cottage was truly a treat, once again.  Featured in Cottages and Bungalows magazine last Fall, the renovation on this place is amazing.  I’ve already written about it before and here is Angela’s lovely blog, documenting the Cottage progress.  It’s open for rentals during the year and I would highly recommend it.

The greatroom is all open to the dining room and kitchen.

129

Snapping in the mirror of the master bathroom.  I’m loving sweater dresses, tights and boots this year.

122

Another view of the greatroom and dining area.

cottage kitchen

Looking towards the kitchen.  When the sun rises, it comes flooding in the huge picture windows.

downtown Waynesville

We stopped in downtown Waynesville too for a look around this quaint little town.

094

It’s another small town in NC with charm.

090

We browsed a few gift shops and art galleries.

080

Lots of color on the walls.

088

This brick wall is a great backdrop to art.

082

This is a pretty and vividly colored oil painting.

A shop door.

Glazed pottery

Glazed pottery.

079

More pottery, which I’ve always loved.

084

Pretty art.

087

These sweet sheep photos were adorable.  Just look at those faces.

111

Some funky iron art on the street.

Habitat Restore

We spotted a Habitat Restore and HAD to stop in.

$40 chest

This was the best bargain I saw in there, a solid wood dresser.

108

For only $40!  This is a great paint candidate.  Good bones.

109

Dovetail drawers. These old vintage pieces are a wonderful find for painting.  Wish I could have brought it home!

110

Kristin found some huge old brass lanterns and she brought them home for outside her front door.  She plans to paint them oil rubbed bronze.  At $20 each, better than buying new.

That was day one of our girl’s weekend and I still have lots more to share.  Nothing like a thrifting weekend to get you ready for a new year.

Loved all the eye candy this morning. I especially loved the canvas on the easel…the painting of the trees and mountains. It is so beautiful. And I never saw any pottery that I did not like! Thanks for sharing.

    Rhoda,
You look beautiful in your sweater dress, scarf , tights and boots! Thank you for sharing Angela’s cottage with us. I am going to search for more images of it. What a quaint town, lovely shops and great deals! Too bad you didn’t have a way to get that $40 dresser home.

LOVE Waynesville. We go to Cherokee several times a year and we always go to Waynesville. My favorite stop is the old hardware store. They have penny candy in large barrels in the basement, Cokes in little glass bottles in an old self-serve cooler, and some of the prettiest sweaters for sale I have ever been able to find. I am ready to go to the mountains again. 🙂

I love that area for shopping and ‘digging’ for finds! Everything is so unique and beautiful from the little shops to the landscape!
Thank you so much for sharing photos of the trip so I could ‘tag along’!
    Have a great day!

Such a lovely cottage and town. I love all of the simple elements in the house. The painted tobacco basket over the fireplace is such a great idea! I am looking forward to some good thrifting when we get meowed and settled next month. A new territory will be a lot of fun to explore!

I sure could use that dresser, and it’s the perfect price! My daughter that loves to refinish furniture could have added her touch to it. You’re looking wonderful, Rhoda. Glad you’re having such a good time.

Those lanterns were SUCH A DEAL!!! And the dresser, too…I would have been too tempted. 🙂

You look lovely in your cozy winter attire. I LOVE tights–for me they cover a multitude of sins!

Thank you for the sweet post about the cottage. And I’m so happy that you had the chance to explore downtown Waynesville and all its charms. Come back again soon!

I don’t know about other cities, but the habitat restores that we have are so overpriced that it is cheaper to buy new. I contacted home office and they said that it is up to each manager. These are some of the most ridiculous prices i have ever seen!
