    Hi Rhoda,
Here I am the day after Thanksgiving and feeling a bit down so got on The Painted Cottage to look at the old November posts which I love and will miss! However what a blessing to find you! An hour and half later I am still reading about you because you touched such a chord. My life definitely has not gone acccording to plan. Here I am 70, single after divorce and widowed, forced into retirement and financially strapped, trying to reinvent myself once again. WHEW! I know God cares and is still there but sometimes it is difficult to keep fighting the good fight even with His help especially when this is round three or maybe four! Anyway you gave me some hope and inspiration and I thank you for that. God bless you even more……Karen

Hi, Karen, what a sweet note to get today! I’m so glad you got some hope from my story, it’s been such a journey for me. I know you will make it too, just keep trusting Him. He will never leave you!

I’ve lurked around and read your blog every since a friend’s husband passed away and I found that Lemon-Coconut Pound Cake recipe on your site. I was hooked.

But it wasn’t until I watched your scarf tutorial video and heard your sweet voice…….well, here I am. You do a wonderful job and my favorite feature is fashion over 50.

When I look up anything – books, food, decorating, you name it – I query ‘southern’ and ‘female’. Think I’m biased???? Obviously, in finding you I also added decorating to my search. I love your style and color choices. With all of this said, I have a question. We are in the process of purchasing an investment property at the beach. Jacksonville is our closest large city. Are you aware of any furniture marts there? I have credentials but need some direction on finding names. Thanks to you in advance for any help you can give me.

HI, Bee, welcome and thanks for stopping by. So sorry, but I don’t know much about Jacksonville, so hopefully you can find source.

Hello! I just found you on Pinterest, and I am so happy! Although I am NOT a southern girl (living on the Washington coast in the Great PNW), my roots are Virginia/NC . My great grandfather, who hailed from Virginia, built the house I live in in 1910. I bought it from my great Aunt Babe, and I have been living in it and restoring/updating it since 2005. I love this old house, and I have tried to honor its history in everything I’ve done, and continue to do! My story is not what I thought it would be – don’t know many whose stories are! – and I love your “pick yourself up, and dust yourself off” attitude. Me, too!

I can’t wait to explore your site, and all of your projects – your style just speaks volumes to me, as I see it has so many of us. Ack! I am excited to get started, and look forward to all your blog posts!

Hi, Lisa, welcome and thanks so much for leaving a comment. You are so right, our lives don’t always turn out the way we expect them to, but God has always been faithful to me and continues to make my life even better than I imagined.

    Good Morning,
I have an avocado green bathroom built in the 70’s. I was replacing the floor and broke a couple of the tiles on the wall where it joins the floor. What can I do to replace these? I hadn’t planned on replacing the wall tiles.

Hi Rhoda……..I’ve been following you for quite some time and realized that I had not been receiving your newsfeeds, usually daily, or whenever you post. However, my name has obviously dropped off the subscription list. The last thing I recall getting from you was about your new master bathroom remodel. Just wanted you to be aware. If I was dropped off, there may be others too. And in our busy work/home lives, it can slip by us unnoticed. Thanks Rhoda!

HI, Linda, I have a subscription service and if you signed up, it should still be going. Can you try signing up again on my subscribe box at the top and see what happens. Sometimes emails bounce because of a person’s email service or are marked spam. Are you sure that’s not happening? My emails go out every time I post.

    Hi Rhoda,

Do you have any idea what has happened with Bloglovin’? The last couple of weeks my feed on that seems to have been hijacked by something called Everyday Living and I’m not seeing the blogs I normally follow. I’ve signed up by email on your site so I don’t miss anymore of yours but it was convenient being able to access them all in one place.

Rhoda, I have been reading your blog online for a couple of years and decided to subscribe. My husband and I live fairly close to yall in Bartow County in the Emerson area. We built our house almost 30 years ago and we live about a mile from the Elementary and Middle School. My husband David and I are retired now and are in our mid 60s. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your site and enjoy seeing your posts every week. Have a wonderful day!

HI, Barbara, thank you for saying hello! Emerson is just up the road from us and we are really enjoying our new home in Acworth, getting to know the area more and more our first year here. So nice to meet you and thank you for taking the time to tell me all that! I appreciate all of you out there reading along.

Hi Rhoda, I’m a new subscriber and I’m interested in painting my maple china cabinet and dining room table and cane back chairs. I’d like to paint it black and use the distressed technique. The finish is lacquered. Can I paint over the finish or do I need to sand it first?

Hi, Blynda, if it has a really shiny finish you will be better off sanding that off. There is a new paint called Fusion Mineral Paint that can go right over most finishes, but even they suggest a little sanding on shiny pieces. Check out their paint. It has a soft finish and not as chalky as chalk paints are. I’m using it on our bathroom vanity.
