Apparently, since I was living in Birmingham for the last 5 years, I had no idea that the West side of town, off Howell Mill Road has now become the West Midtown Design district. Fancy-schmancy, indeed! There’s a map and everything, with all the shops and restaurants in this up and coming design and decor area of Atlanta. It’s funny how that happens. I’ve lived here most of my life and have seen the area change some in the past, but now it’s full-fledged design and artsy and a fun place to visit. Who knew? I sure didn’t until I moved back here last year and saw it for myself.
The Ikea store is not far from here, so maybe that has had an influence too in bringing in even more design to the area (not that designers are into Ikea for the most part, like the rest of us). It’s long been a favorite area of mine to shop and browse, but now there are even more stores. This stop is not too far from Lewis and Sheron fabrics that I told you about this week.
Being a blogger, I somehow get on email lists from PR firms and this one came to my inbox a few months ago, inviting me to a grand opening of a new design shop, Maudlin et al. I invited my friend, Lori May, to go with me, so we checked it out. Launched by Doublemint twin, Jennifer Van Galder and her business partner, Bryan Rose, a custom home builder, Maudlin et al is a beautiful compilation of antiques and vintage design. With another location in La Jolla, CA, the Atlanta store is pure eye candy.
Lori and I enjoyed getting dressed up and hitting this new shop’s open house for a night out. Of course, we took pics. Check out my bargain $40 Calvin Klein TJ Maxx dress, the fashionista I am!
There was plenty to see.
Enjoy the pics. They are not the best, because of low light, but good enough to share.
Very cool light fixture.
Love mercury glass.
Van Galder and Rose travel the world collecting signature pieces that define their fine living style. The shop offers personalized interior design, extensive fabric selection, furniture, upholstery, unique antiques and object d’art, to name a few of their services.
Most of the offerings here are way out of my price range, but I wanted to share this delightful new shop with my Atlanta readers. If you like to browse vintage and antiques, you will enjoy a visit to Maudlin et al.
Thanks for stopping by!
I would love to be able to get my hands in that store they have so much stuff I love I am jealous.

Oh, what fun, Rhoda! You are indeed a fashionista. You look wonderful and there is that famous smile!

My girls went to GT, so I spent a lot of time down there (J2 lives right off Northside in Brookwood now) and there are always great new things to discover every time. And may I suggest that it’s sometimes easier to get there from Atlanta Rd./Marietta St. than from I75….at times the construction on the Howell Mill exit and HM itself is crazy (although they’ve been working on Marietta St. lately too).
Whoa, mama! You look fantastic in that dress! You should definitely wear that one a lot, as it is very flattering on you. And the design district looks fab, too. I’ll definitely have to check it out when I’m in the ATL at Lewis & Sherron.
Oh my goodness, I am dying over those doors! Gorgeous.
Thank you for presenting this great shop…Planning to go to that area soon so I will be sure to stop in and see their great items…
Great Dress!!Great Price!!! Looks like a beautiful store. I will have to check it out. Have you been to A Classy Flea in Marietta GA.. It’s on Roswell Road down from the Big Chicken. That’s my favorite place to shop. Fun Fun Fun
Every time I look at this picture I see something else I would to have in my home.
They have so much stuff I just adore!!!
Lovely photos! Thanks for sharing!
Such a fun time Rhoda! Thanks for inviting me!
Lori
First of all you look AMAZING!!! That dress is TDF! Wear it often. The store has so many things I would love to have. Thanks for sharing them with us. XO, Pinky
It’s unfortunate that even though the store is lovely, my company placed an order for lighting many months ago and were promised delivery weeks ago and Maudlin has still not delivered. They originally quoted 6 to 8 weeks to complete the order and now we are at about twice that lead time with no product. It’s very frustrating to be given a promise and then discover that a vendor does not uphold their commitment. And, this is after they demand 80% deposit with the purchase order.
