What? You didn’t know there was a connection between the two?
Now if that title didn’t grab your attention right in here, I don’t know what would. Who doesn’t love cornbread? And yardsales? You know I do. So, when a friend tells you she is having a yardsale, you need to show up. This is my friend who had the sale the same day that I did. I got to preview on Friday and when I got there, THESE were waiting for me. My friend, Debbie, has a set of these cast iron cornstick cornbread bakers and I’ve told myself if I ever found some, I’d snap them up. And snap them up I did, for $4. And they’re already seasoned. They make some nice crispy cornbread sticks that are to die for.
Got all excited and tried them out, but I filled them too full, so they didn’t just pop out of there like they are supposed to. Next time, I won’t fill them so full. But, they were yummy. Really yummy, even if I did have to dig them out a bit. Here’s the buttermilk cornbread recipe I like to make. Very Southern. Found this one in our local paper and it’s really good and authentic, just like my mama makes.
Did you know if you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can add about a tablespoon of vinegar to your milk and it does the same thing? Just a tip for you!
Edited to Add: Look who has Lodge cornstick cast iron pans: Walmart and several others online too, in case you have to have one!
One more thing you should never pass up, a BIG face watch for $1. All it needed was a new battery. I love that I can see this without squinting.
Some of you will know what I mean! 🙂 And the rest of you, your time is coming.
The winner of Miss Lucy’s Monograms giveaway is lucky #42 Sabrina! Big congrats, I’ve already emailed her the exciting news. And if you didn’t win, we will be having another giveaway with Miss Lucy’s in December and it will be a fabulous prize!

Your title grabbed my attention. It sounded so cute and catchy, not to mention great. Whats more great is those cast iron “CORN” bread pans! I SO WANT ONE, HOW DARLING, to put aside a hearty bowl of chili. NICE!

I have one of those and I LOVE it! Great deal — gotta love friends who have yard sales.

Rhoda, Love the cornbread pans. I have had one for years, my mom always had one when I was growing up. I forget sometimes that I have it. My son’s loved to have cornbread from it when they were younger. Also love the watch and I do know what you mean! Don’t have to put on your glasses to see what time it is. I have stopped wearing a watch, I always look at my Blackberry these days. Maybe if I had a big watch? Anyway, have a good day. Marla

I am the only one in my house who LOVES cornbread (and chili and navy bean soup and all kinds of other things that require cornbread on the side), so I don’t make it very often or I will eat the whole pan! I’ve tried making just 2 or 3 muffins at a time, but that’s not real cornbread. I’ll look for these pans, then I could make just a couple sticks at a time… why didn’t I think of that before? Thanks Rhoda!

Hi Rhoda–Your post title just screamed southern to me! Too funny. I really need to get some of these too, although I have never made real cornbread. I love to cook, but Jiffy is as close to cornbread as I make! LOL! I’ve been missing you and all of my bloggy friends. This school stuff is the pits, but I sure will be happy when a real career kicks in for me.
I posted a part two of the Southern Living Idea home, if you get a chance stop on by.
Have a wonderful weekend,
~Misti

Great deal on the pans and the watch. I know all about “seeing the watch face” thing. 🙂 I bought a Lodge preseasoned corn stick pan at William So. when they ran them at a real good price and have yet to have used it.
Hope you are having a great weekend.

Would you believe that I have the same connection with cornbread and yardsales too? This past summer, my mother-in-law had a yardsale. When I stopped by, she had these same cast iron corn sticks for sale. Why on Earth was she selling these? I dearly LOVE all things cast iron, so I snatched them up without even thinking, Being the nice mother-in-law she is, I got mine for free! They were a little rusty, but I just burned them out, and now they’re good as new! They’re perfect to accompany soups or to just eat!

Love cornbread, love my stick pans from a garage sale, and that watch just makes me LAUGH! 😉

My mom used to have one of those cornbread pans. I’ll have to ask here if she still has it and get it if she does. Since she doesn’t cook anymore. I went garage sale-ing too & found a few good things. I’ll post about them this week.

I have my grandmothers cast iron corn bread stick pan and I love it! Cute watch! You can also use lemon juice in the milk to sub for buttermilk:)

I have 2 of those cornbread pans that my mother used. Aren’t they heavy? Make some incredible southern cornbread though. I also understand about the hands on the watch. Happens so quickly!

My grandmother always used a pan like that. If you ever want to sell one – I’ll buy it

I love cornbread and this is certainly the time of year to make it. Mama has cornstick pans like the ones you bought and I’ll bet that she’ll pass them on to me if I ask.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

I’ve never seen cornbread pans like that! But I love them already and will definitely be watching … however, I probably live too far north (Kansas)! Ha ha. Also, great watch – it makes me crazy to try to figure out the time from just a little tick on the face!

You always find the best treasures. When I was growing up, my mom had those pans, which had belonged to her mother. Now, you have me wondering where they could be.
We love cornbread. My favorite way to eat it, might be a tad icky. I crumble it and smother it with maple syrup.
