Yardsales & the Flea Market

CD radio

It was a fun weekend of yardsales and hitting the Birmingham Flea Market. As I mentioned, the flea market was a let-down, but we all managed to bring home a few goodies, especially me, since I started at a big neighborhood yardsale first. Glad I went ahead and bought. I have wanted a little CD/clock radio for my downstairs guestroom so I can listen to praise music in there when I feel like it and I found this almost brand new one for $5. Exactly what I wanted and it works perfect too! You never know about electronics, but I usually take their word for it that things work and they usually do. Tried out a little Kenny Loggins on it. 🙂

Bamboo shelf

Since I’m a sucker for bamboo things, I couldn’t pass up this cute little shelf for $4. I’m not sure where it’s going yet, still mulling that over.

Cute caning detail.

Aqua planter

Aqua and ceramic planters, I love both so this was a shoe-in at $1 and it’s not small either.

An adorable little black and white shell box was $1.

green bottle

Cute little green bottle was 10 cents. I can see a clipped flower in here sitting in my window sill.

Tureen

Can you believe I found another large soup tureen, this one for $2? It was a good day for me. So, then it was time to head to the flea market. We all met up for some browsing and stayed here quite a while…..

Crosses

Checking out all the jewelry and stones. I love turquoise and pretty stones.

Turquoise

These necklaces were already strung and just needed the clasps added. I bought a lime green set that Sandi is fixing for me, both necklace and bracelet for $9. I’ll show you that later when I get it back. There really wasn’t that much at this flea market that was really interesting to me, but we did find a seller who had some great vintage things. Found out he also sells at Scott’s Antiques in Atlanta once a month. I can see why. He had the best space here!

IMG_4916

Lots of vintage furniture pieces.

IMG_4919

A chippy garden piece that I loved.

IMG_4920

This old cabinet was really pretty.

IMG_4921

Vintage armoire.

Vintage glider

And some old chippy gliders.

So, that’s my haul for the week, mostly from the yardsale. The granite is in process, house is torn up from moving everything out of the cabinets. Ran into a little problem with the backsplash. Where I thought there would be a gap between the back of the granite and the existing backsplash, the bottom of the tile backsplash will actually have to be trimmed off about 1/4” or so to allow the granite to slide into place. Didn’t see that one coming, so that’s an extra $350 I wasn’t planning to spend. 🙁 Oh well, that’s the way projects go, have you noticed that? Everything won’t be completed until Friday and then we’ll be busy with Mother’s Day weekend, so it will be next week before I can get that kitchen all cleaned up and take pics to show you, but I promise I will as soon as I can. I’m looking forward to the finish line!

Do you realize how dependent we are on our sinks? I have found that out this week.

Don’t forget our Garden Party tomorrow! I hope you’ll all come back and share what’s going on in YOUR yard. It finally stopped raining long enough for me to take some decent pics (and then started another downpour), so I have some pretty blooms to show you. I don’t want to party alone!

Hi Rhoda! I had a great time at the Flea on Saturday. Love the photos you took. I especially liked that red dresser! The price wasn’t bad either ($195) but too much for me. I’m using it as inspiration for one of my pieces of furniture!

I remember doing dishes in my bathtub long ago when my kitchen was torn up! I know you’re going to LOVE your new granite!

I’m especially keen on the flower pot and bamboo shelf. I have a covered deck and that’s where those 2 things would go at my house! Thank you for the great pictures!

Rhoda, thanks for taking us shopping. Believe it or not, it was your blog that inspired me to do garage sales for the FIRST TIME on a weekly basis. You can usually find some nice things and occasionally you find several really outstanding items. It has been fun for me to also find some surprise bargains for my daughter and daughter-in-law at almost
“give away” prices. Thanks for your frugal inspiration! Linda (Oh, I’m a sucker for tureens – great find!)

I love the treasures you uncovered thrifting this weekend. It looks like you had a good time. The “antique” space you uncovered at the flea market looks like a grand space indeed. I love chippy garden stuff. I’m glad you all had a good time.
Looking forward to your garden party tomorrow!

You really found some amazing, great finds. I can’t believe what you find, actually. When we move back from England to Michigan, I think I’ll become an avid flea market and garage saler. It pays in the end. You have such great taste, too.

When I go to garage sales I usually don’t think about anything specific. That’s why I had to think about where that table was going to go before buying it, then the light bulb came on…thank goodness it was still there!
The specific item I was thinking about was a white soup tureen! No luck! I love the one you found!

I may have something for the garden party. I want to take some photos of what’s going on in our yard and garden’s if we don’t have rain, today. We are also planting iris for J’s Aunt Ruth, so I’ll see about pictures from there.

I have a niece in Homewood. I may just have to come for a visit–with ulterior motives! Really, all the flea market things around here is junk!–even with an open mind 🙂

They have the best garage sales in your neck of the woods, Rhoda! Love that aqua planter, and for just a $1!?!? That thing would go for $70 in a nursery around here. Great find!

I LOVE that little black and white shell box! I am currently redecorating my bathroom in green, blacks, and whites- that would look so perfect in there! 😉
I too love bamboo. I was just over at my grandparent’s house last night- I was actually shopping their garage which is filled with treasures just waiting for me to make them over. They have a slim, but very tall bamboo/wicker looking bookshelf type of thing. I am thinking about stealing it and spray painting it black. I may send you a pic to see what you think. Congrats on your finds! Have fun placing them in your haouse! ;o) Andi

Great yard sale items. I have to wait another week or 2 here because it’s still a bit cool.

So — the Garden Party tomorrow. What exactly do we do? And how do I send pictures?

Hi Rhoda, See you found another great tureen! I haven’t been able to do much yardsaling yet and the weather has been so rainy lately…..I’m itchin to get out there.

You asked about the faucet in a previous post….I think you’ll love it, my D has the same one and I really like it.
Sorry about your kitchen mess, but it’s all worth it. Can’t wait to see it finished!
