A Rainy Yardsale

Rain was falling softly at first, then increased to a pretty steady pace, but I didn’t let that stop me from venturing out at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to the Mt. Laurel yardsale. I look forward to this one every Spring and Fall and it doesn’t disappoint. There are always new sellers with lots of various things for sale and you never know what you’ll find.

I showed you a bit of Mt. Laurel last year. It’s a master planned community with Craftsmen-style bungalows, brick sidewalks, native landscaping, and stacked rock walls all around. It blends right into the countryside and that’s the whole idea for this community tucked away into the woods, off the beaten path. They have their own main street and little town square area and it’s a quaint, pretty place.
These pics aren’t the best, since the rain, she was a-fallin’, but you get the idea. I took my camera along again to show you what was out there. I’ll show you what I didn’t get, but thought was some pretty good buys.
This chair an ottoman was $25. Now, I sat in it & the cushion was a little squishy, I think it needed some spring work, but if you were in the market to overhaul something like this, it was a bargain. The fabric looked decent from a distance, but was quite a bit faded up close. Still, a good buy.
This pair of children’s beds were very cute. I didn’t get the price on them.

I think this chair was marked at $100. Pink and green anyone? You would have to have a special room for this one, but good lines on the chair.
Newly painted black mirror, with the tape still on was $15. Quite large too.
Set of French inspired prints were $7 each.
This 5×8′ antique Oriental rug was $100. It was in pretty good condition.
This girl had some nice things. This old sewing machine base with wood top was $20.

And this headboard was really cute for $20.
Lots of Fitz & Floyd collectibles too.
And a Pottery Barn kids bookshelf was $15 (I think).
Pretty little rocking chair was $15 or 20, can’t really remember. So, that’s what you missed.
Here’s what I bought:

Told you I would be collecting things to go with the black/white damask bedding from yardsales. This cute little black/white pillow (reversible, with lime green on one side was $2. See how nice it goes? I had already thought I might throw some lime green in that room for a little accent with the aqua blue.

This plate and napkin holder pair was $5. Perfect for outdoor entertaining.
I need another purse like a hole in the head, but I brought another one home…it’s leather by Harold’s and was $4. With fuschia lining, no less.
Two cute little T’s by Chico were $3 for both. Great casual shirts for fall.
Books were $1 each. I already have the Decorating one, so I’ll probably have a giveaway and one of my lucky readers will get it. Later! The Garden Style book is a nice hardcover.
Cute little monogram tray for $1, that will go to my niece, Lauren. I think this has to be from The Royal Standard, where I got my paper mache trashcan with the monogram. Those 2 chunky candlesticks were 50 cents each.
And last, a new pair of Ralph Lauren sandals for $4, chocolate brown with a small heel and very cute. I need another pair of shoes like I need a hole in the head too. Did I let that stop me?! NOPE. One of the things I need to do this Fall is clean out my closet…it’s on the list!

Did you enjoy the yardsale? I wish you all could have been with me…rain and all! Really, the rain chased away a lot of customers, but it didn’t stop me from the bargains.

I worked with my design friend, Mary, on another project last Friday. It was a lot of fun! Sorry I can’t share them with all of you too, but wanted to let you know what I’ve been up to. Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments on MY redesign. It is so much fun to be doing what I love to do!

Way to go with your yardsale finds, Rhoda! Neat stuff! Great prices!

You have inspired me to scout around here for yardsales. Something tells me your prices might be better in Alabama, but I still want to scope out what we have available in Florida. Will let you know if I find anything fun.

I did find some pretty wonderful antique sailing prints matted and framed in silver leaf yesterday for $10 each at the antique mall. Antique prints of this sort usually go for $50 or more unframed, so I was a happy camper. Hubby liked them, too.

    Have a wonderful Sunday!

    In Him,

    Sheila

Looks like you got a lot of great deals, Rho. I haven’t ventured out garage saling since I moved. I do want to, but I need to figure out the best neighborhoods to get the best finds at the best prices.

That little community looks beautiful! You found some great things! I really fancied that pink and green chair! 🙂 Not sure where I would have put it, because the only pink and green is my daughters room, and her room isn’t quiet big enough for a chair. But I really liked it! I think it was more the pattern that I liked. You found some great stuff. I love those shoes as well..Ralph Laurens’ for $4!! That is awesome!

A little bit of rain doesn’t keep OUR girl home – no way! She’s a trooper and a very clever thrifter and yeppers – she scored again!!! 😉

I love your latest finds – the shoes and purse are adorable! What a charming neighborhood. Sigh. I love B’Ham!

Our yardsales are dwindling down now, so I love vicariously living through you. I’d be all over that white PB bookshelf. We have a tall white bookshelf from Ikea in my daughter’s room that is about to fall over/apart. To replace it with something of better quality at a low price would be ideal, of course.

Now as much as I blasted Ikea in that post you did a while back… I have to admit that I went and got myself a chair there because it was so cute and inspirational. I suppose I should feature it on my blog. It is for my sewing area (the reason I bought and inpirational chair) which is in the basement (another reason why I let myself get this chair that doesn’t go with the rest of the house). So maybe I’ll feature it on my blog down the road because I want to paint my sewing machine cabinet (black?), once I figure out the best way to do that. I could do a feature of my entire sewing nook (corner in the basement).

Anyway… way to go on the finds. As for the purse and shoes. Well can’t pass up something nice that you love at such a bargain, as long as you push something else out of your closet. That is what I say! Have a great week.

Great things at those sales – WOW! I saw some things I probably would have bought. I wanted to tell you that I love the feature you added on the side of your blog where you can click on a particular room in your house to see it. I don’t know how long it has been there, but I just noticed it yesterday. I looked at your laundry room because I was trying to copy that rabbit weather vane with some yard sale pieces. It turned out really cute – I’ll show it next week! Thanks for always inspiring me!

Wonder if those childrens quilts would have come with the beds – would have loved to cut them up and frame some cute elements out of it.
