A Rainy Yardsale

Rain was falling softly at first, then increased to a pretty steady pace, but I didn’t let that stop me from venturing out at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to the Mt. Laurel yardsale. I look forward to this one every Spring and Fall and it doesn’t disappoint. There are always new sellers with lots of various things for sale and you never know what you’ll find.

I showed you a bit of Mt. Laurel last year. It’s a master planned community with Craftsmen-style bungalows, brick sidewalks, native landscaping, and stacked rock walls all around. It blends right into the countryside and that’s the whole idea for this community tucked away into the woods, off the beaten path. They have their own main street and little town square area and it’s a quaint, pretty place.
These pics aren’t the best, since the rain, she was a-fallin’, but you get the idea. I took my camera along again to show you what was out there. I’ll show you what I didn’t get, but thought was some pretty good buys.
This chair an ottoman was $25. Now, I sat in it & the cushion was a little squishy, I think it needed some spring work, but if you were in the market to overhaul something like this, it was a bargain. The fabric looked decent from a distance, but was quite a bit faded up close. Still, a good buy.
This pair of children’s beds were very cute. I didn’t get the price on them.

I think this chair was marked at $100. Pink and green anyone? You would have to have a special room for this one, but good lines on the chair.
Newly painted black mirror, with the tape still on was $15. Quite large too.
Set of French inspired prints were $7 each.
This 5×8′ antique Oriental rug was $100. It was in pretty good condition.
This girl had some nice things. This old sewing machine base with wood top was $20.

And this headboard was really cute for $20.
Lots of Fitz & Floyd collectibles too.
And a Pottery Barn kids bookshelf was $15 (I think).
Pretty little rocking chair was $15 or 20, can’t really remember. So, that’s what you missed.
Here’s what I bought:

Told you I would be collecting things to go with the black/white damask bedding from yardsales. This cute little black/white pillow (reversible, with lime green on one side was $2. See how nice it goes? I had already thought I might throw some lime green in that room for a little accent with the aqua blue.

This plate and napkin holder pair was $5. Perfect for outdoor entertaining.
I need another purse like a hole in the head, but I brought another one home…it’s leather by Harold’s and was $4. With fuschia lining, no less.
Two cute little T’s by Chico were $3 for both. Great casual shirts for fall.
Books were $1 each. I already have the Decorating one, so I’ll probably have a giveaway and one of my lucky readers will get it. Later! The Garden Style book is a nice hardcover.
Cute little monogram tray for $1, that will go to my niece, Lauren. I think this has to be from The Royal Standard, where I got my paper mache trashcan with the monogram. Those 2 chunky candlesticks were 50 cents each.
And last, a new pair of Ralph Lauren sandals for $4, chocolate brown with a small heel and very cute. I need another pair of shoes like I need a hole in the head too. Did I let that stop me?! NOPE. One of the things I need to do this Fall is clean out my closet…it’s on the list!

Did you enjoy the yardsale? I wish you all could have been with me…rain and all! Really, the rain chased away a lot of customers, but it didn’t stop me from the bargains.

I worked with my design friend, Mary, on another project last Friday. It was a lot of fun! Sorry I can’t share them with all of you too, but wanted to let you know what I’ve been up to. Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments on MY redesign. It is so much fun to be doing what I love to do!

You are one dedicated lady! I haven’t been yard-saling in the last couple weeks. I’m gonna grab a paper and venture out next weekend. This is a great time of year for ‘saling-in-the-south’!

You found some great stuff. I always love it when I have a good trip yard-saling.

I’d love to have the little rocker. Sweet! Looks like you did pretty good, even with the rain.

The plaid chair would make a great nursery chair!

We’re back from the lake for a few days. I’m hoping to get caught up with bloggy visits, before we return to the lake, later this week. With J’s amazing shrinking arm, we don’t know what the Fall holds for us as far as lake visits, so we’re taking advantage while we can!

I like my little laptop, but I prefer my BIG machine for blog browsing, so I get behind a tad, when we’re away.

I am obviously NOT going to the right sales! I would have bought the mirror, the picture pair, and probably the headboard. Wow! And that PB Bookshelf! I would have loved that one. The pink and green plaid chair matches the pillows on my mom’s office couch, lovely!

You did great, Rhoda. I really need to head up there and go garage saleing with you. Needless to say, here in a town with a population of about 1000, we don’t have great yardsales.

I have got to move south, that is it I am packing up–there are no thrift sales here in NY like you find!! I need the pink chair–I could build a rm around it!

Left you an award on my blog as I so enjoy visiting here all the time!

Nice looking rug! could have been a great deal at 100 bucks, but doesn’t look like an antique. Pretty design though. Thanks for the awesome post. Really interesting!

Oh, yay — I finally get to go to a yard sale with Rhoda! 🙂

Wow, you *do* have good yard sales. I’d have to say that the headboard looks like the “bargain du jour” to me. This weekend (right after Labor Day) tends to be a good yard sale weekend in my area, but I’ve been out of town for work so missed everything. THAT figures!! I’ve been behind on posts due top travel but I have a couple of good recent bargains I need to get blogging on.

p.s. — If Lauren doesn’t fancy the tray, let me know…I have someone in mind.

Oh, I sooo wish I could’ve come with you. 🙂 I think my fave was the PB bookcase – I have way too many books, but can’t part with any of them. What great stuff – we never have yardsales like that in my town!
