Camping in Destin a couple of weeks ago was a lot of fun. My sister and brother-in-law have had a camper for several years and this is the first time I’ve joined them on one of their trips.
They have a 5th wheel, which is a great way to camp. Tents are not my idea of fun, but I can definitely camp like this. With all the luxuries of home.
My sister even decorates the campsite, nothing is left out.
The dogs are kept in camp by this pretty black fence. They love going camping too! Lots of seating areas available for chilling out.
Lauren got them this light up palm tree a few years ago. I told them it’s like camping in Vegas. 🙂
This is my idea of roughing it.
Rocking chairs for sitting and reading.
That pull out sofa is where Lauren and I slept. It was cozy and comfy.
Adequate cooking area, they eat well when they are camping.
Bruce and Holly relaxing. Some of you mentioned his shoes! Aren’t they funny? The girls called them gorilla shoes, cause they look like that. Renee hates these shoes and he loves them .
Up 2 stairs is the master bedroom, fairly spacious too.Cozy too.
And the toilet. Nice to have this handy during camping, that’s for sure.
Me, chilling out too. It was a nice little getaway.
They stay in the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, a beautiful camping area that is very popular. It was full when we were there.
There’s a tram available every hour that you can catch to go to the beach. Or it’s less than a mile to walk.
There’s that beautiful beach again. Never get tired of it.
This is one beautiful state park, if you are into camping too, check it out.
You’ll never get tired of this beach either.
Fun in the sun with the sand between our toes.
One night, we had a shrimp boil and it was SO good. Bruce, Steve (Susan’s hubby), and one of Bruce’s friends who stopped by, Shane.
This was my plate and I savored every single bite!
Do you ever go camping? What kind of camping do you enjoy? Are you like me and only like luxury camping like this or are you a tent dweller?
Tell me!

Oh yea, I could definitely camp that way for sure. I’m too much of a city girl to really rough it in a tent and sleeping on a sleeping bag. But you bring a mini-house to the outdoors and I’m there. And what better place to camp out than the beach! Glad you had fun Rhoda:)

Brings back memories. We grew up always having a camper, and enjoying various campsites. It was the economical way to vacation with a family of 6 that also had animals.

We had a camper years ago and loved it!!! The kids were younger and loved hanging out with us. As years went by they started getting busy with their own lives and we didn’t go as often. The camper just sat there and so we sold it. Now I wish we had it back again 🙁 I was like your sister and decorated our small camper yard..ha! When we would go for a holiday I would deco for that as well. Now we just rent cabins instead or stay at a hotel. The thing I liked most about having our own camper…I knew it was clean. Not much on sharing a bath house…ha! Glad you had a great time with your family. ps…I just recieved your message and it sounds wonderful. I’m in… 🙂

Dear Rhoda,
When I was younger I did a survival camp. The next morning around the fire I commented on how dry the ground was considering all the rain we had during the night. They all laughed and explained the “rain drops” I heard on the tent were Gypsy Moth caterpillars falling from the trees. : O
I also have braved out winter camping – in a tent – in snow.
I much prefer the Four Seasons, Ritz, or Waldorf !
I think your sister has the right idea. I love her fenced in yard!
Your Friend,
Deborah

Oh my! I love all the homey decorations. Reminds me of camping in our 30 foot trailer with the kids and the dog. We had the best times.

This would be how I’d “camp”. Hubby and I have talked about 5th-wheels but I’ve never seen the inside of one, so thank you for the tour. It looks wonderful, down to the flashing palm tree!

Great pictures of the beach, and the camper is just as cute as it can be. The patio is decorated and everything. inside and out, looks cozy and homey. In the very first picture, I thought the little yellow dog was real, and then I realized she was a statue! And I saw the real dogs, of course. Looks like everyone had a great time camping.

Just checking in on you with all those tornados..I hear they are have touched down in Birmingham..hope your lovely home and your family are ok. I have family way down near the gulf…so I do believe everything is good with them.
I LOVE to camp even in a tent..my husband not so much. The last time we went we stayed up in Malibu a few blocks from the beach..I loved it,. my husband could not get comfortable on the air mattress so we have only stated at motels in Carpenteria lately. Boy..does your sister know how to camp in style…I thought my mom was crazy..sweeping dirt and setting up the site….but I LOVE all kind of camping..we hope to get a small camper soon…

When I was growing up my grandparents had a fifth wheel too. I spent the summers with them camping all over with a group of their retired friends. We made funnel cakes over the campfire, played dominoes with the guys and crocheted with the ladies…times I will never forget! They are gone home now to be with the Lord, but your pictures really took me back! Looks like you all had a wonderful time! Thanks for sharing…I loved looking through your post! XOXO

Hey Rhoda! My sister has a camper also, and at least once a year she invites all her neices and nephews to come camp for a weekend. I tag along as a “chaperone” but really I’m just a big kid that also loves to camp. We rent a golf cart for the week and the kids have a blast. It’s such a laid back getaway (expecially when we I show up after the setup and takeoff before the takedown)!

Hi Rhoda,
The pictures are wonderful. Hubby and I bought a 24ft pull along two years ago. When our boys were little we had a pop-up that we loved. They grew up and left us so we stayed in motels for awhile. Now we have two small dogs and I like to take them with us. I am hoping to retire sometime soon and travel in it. Of course with gas prices as they ar that might be difficult.

I’m so glad that you were able to come to our beach and realize that, NO, there isn’t a huge oil slick or black tar layer on the water (or beach for that matter). Thanks on behalf of everyone here for helping to jumpstart our economy again! We hope that you can come back soon! xxoo ~LWW

Love when you share your beach outings!! I used to go camping like this in South France with my parents as a kid. Would do it again for sure!

We love our camper, too and enjoy being able to go from the beach, to the lake and to the mountains without having to unpack. When we bought it, we really planned to take looong vacations, but quickly realized a week was long enough to be gone from home. Your dinner looked fabulous, but I would have definitely peeled those shrimp. I LOVE your blog and look forward to visiting with you every day!

We are getting ready to ‘camp’ in our RV for a month between selling our current house and taking possession of our new one. We will have ourselves, our 2 girls (3 and 7), our dog, our cat and our 2 guinea pigs. It will make it interesting, if nothing else!
