Camping in Destin a couple of weeks ago was a lot of fun. My sister and brother-in-law have had a camper for several years and this is the first time I’ve joined them on one of their trips.
They have a 5th wheel, which is a great way to camp. Tents are not my idea of fun, but I can definitely camp like this. With all the luxuries of home.
My sister even decorates the campsite, nothing is left out.
The dogs are kept in camp by this pretty black fence. They love going camping too! Lots of seating areas available for chilling out.
Lauren got them this light up palm tree a few years ago. I told them it’s like camping in Vegas. 🙂
This is my idea of roughing it.
Rocking chairs for sitting and reading.
That pull out sofa is where Lauren and I slept. It was cozy and comfy.
Adequate cooking area, they eat well when they are camping.
Bruce and Holly relaxing. Some of you mentioned his shoes! Aren’t they funny? The girls called them gorilla shoes, cause they look like that. Renee hates these shoes and he loves them .
Up 2 stairs is the master bedroom, fairly spacious too.Cozy too.
And the toilet. Nice to have this handy during camping, that’s for sure.
Me, chilling out too. It was a nice little getaway.
They stay in the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, a beautiful camping area that is very popular. It was full when we were there.
There’s a tram available every hour that you can catch to go to the beach. Or it’s less than a mile to walk.
There’s that beautiful beach again. Never get tired of it.
This is one beautiful state park, if you are into camping too, check it out.
You’ll never get tired of this beach either.
Fun in the sun with the sand between our toes.
One night, we had a shrimp boil and it was SO good. Bruce, Steve (Susan’s hubby), and one of Bruce’s friends who stopped by, Shane.
This was my plate and I savored every single bite!
Do you ever go camping? What kind of camping do you enjoy? Are you like me and only like luxury camping like this or are you a tent dweller?
Tell me!

HI, all! We survived the bad storms here in GA, they were all North of us, but AL really got hit hard. I’m so sorry for the devastation over there with many friends & people I know. This is the worst tornado season that’s happened in many, many years.
Katy and June, yep, that Shane is a cutie, I agree. But, June he’s around 40, so I don’t think that would work for those college aged daughters of yours. He has 2 kiddos too. 🙂 I’ll have to tell him he has a fan club here.

Thanks for sharing pictures of your camping trip. We have a 5th wheel too and it is our home away home. I have had the best time decorating it and nothing relaxes me more than spending time camping and playing “domestic goddess”. Our six year old grandson loves camping in our RV as much as we do and we have the best times together. I would love to camp on the beach and hopefully, one day we’ll get the chance! My prayers and thoughts are with everyone affected by the storms in Georgia, Alabama, and here in my hometown in Arkansas.

Can you tell us more about the fence? I would LOVE to have one for our camping trips with our two toddlers.

Rhoda,
You’re beautiful pics confirm my prediction that Renee’s campsite would be totally Southern Living with a twist! Love the palm tree and flamingoes! Both you and Renee have such a flair for decor. Her campsite reminds me of your laundry room re-do! Spectacular!
Love you,
Vic

Rhoda, this is a post after my own heart. Not only do we love Destin (have been there many times through the years), but we are avid campers, and especially now that we are retired. We started small in the early 80’s and bought our dream 40-foot RV after retiring. I wrote an article about our love affair with camping. I must say, I started as a skeptic, but was hooked quickly after giving it a try. As for tents, that phase ended quickly. 🙂
That’s a great photo of three beautiful women.

Renee just cracks me up with all the yard stuff. She sure goes all out…I LOVE IT!!! You girls look GREAT! I never look that good on a camping trip. I always wear baggy shorts, t-shirts and of course no makeup on camping trips and there ya’ll are all cute. And is that Bruce Willis on the trip with ya?

I knew this had to be Topsail Hills when I saw the first picture! This campground is awesome!!! My family has been there several times now and we will be there again in a few short weeks:) Can’t wait!
We love RVing, but will still occasionally pack up the backpacking gear for a few nights of REAL roughin’ it:)
Camping is so much different than going to a hotel. Everyone around you seems so much more relaxed and nicer!

I love the fence for the camper. I have been looking for something just like that. Can you give me more info on type of fence, where you got it, what kinda expense you incurred. Thanks, Pam
Rhoda says
Hi, Pam, that was my sister’s fence and I’m pretty sure they got it at Lowes. Not sure of cost.
