Celebrating Mother’s Day

Once a year, we celebrate our moms and it’s always a special time with my family that I wouldn’t miss for the world. I don’t take these times for granted and know that I won’t always have my mom around to love and enjoy, so we try to make these holidays really memorable.

I went over solo this trip and mom had fried chicken waiting on me when I got there.  I know, you have my permission to be jealous.  🙂 My niece, Lauren, and I both love her fried chicken and it had been ages since I’d had it at her table.

Fresh spinach salad that my dad grew in his garden, it was yummy.

We posed for our once a year girl’s pic, me, my mom, niece, and sister, Renee.  I think my mom looks pretty darn amazing for 82 and she is the sweetest mom in the whole world!  I’m a little biased.  🙂

My sister’s beautiful backyard makes a nice backdrop for a family pic, even if the sun was too bright.
Pretty azalea was on the table we ate at on the porch. It was a beautiful day, surprisingly cool for this time of year, but very pleasant.

They’ve done a lot of work on this backyard and it’s such a great place to enjoy a beautiful afternoon. Here’s a link to last years Mother’s Day post for more of  their backyard.

Their fish pond, which I’ve showed you before.

We made Chicken Alouette, which I’ve also shared before and it was delish.

Fresh asparagus and salad were a perfect complement.

Macaroni and cheese was picked up from Picadilly and boy, was it good.

Along with fresh corn on the cob, we were happy and full at the end of the day. My strawberry cake and a carrot cake was a highlight for all of us with a sweet tooth.

I hope you all enjoyed your Mother’s Day too, either with your own kids or your mom if you are blessed to still have her. I feel SO fortunate to still have my mom to hug and love on!

I took a quick detour through Ikea on the way home and have some fun pics to share with you!

Fried chicken will always make me miss my mother. The women of my family learned to cook on fried chicken, and it will always remind me of those strong women who went before me. Calories keep me from making my own anymore, but this post makes me want to batter up. Thanks for sharing.
