Celebrating Mother’s Day

Once a year, we celebrate our moms and it’s always a special time with my family that I wouldn’t miss for the world. I don’t take these times for granted and know that I won’t always have my mom around to love and enjoy, so we try to make these holidays really memorable.

I went over solo this trip and mom had fried chicken waiting on me when I got there.  I know, you have my permission to be jealous.  🙂 My niece, Lauren, and I both love her fried chicken and it had been ages since I’d had it at her table.

Fresh spinach salad that my dad grew in his garden, it was yummy.

We posed for our once a year girl’s pic, me, my mom, niece, and sister, Renee.  I think my mom looks pretty darn amazing for 82 and she is the sweetest mom in the whole world!  I’m a little biased.  🙂

My sister’s beautiful backyard makes a nice backdrop for a family pic, even if the sun was too bright.
Pretty azalea was on the table we ate at on the porch. It was a beautiful day, surprisingly cool for this time of year, but very pleasant.

They’ve done a lot of work on this backyard and it’s such a great place to enjoy a beautiful afternoon. Here’s a link to last years Mother’s Day post for more of  their backyard.

Their fish pond, which I’ve showed you before.

We made Chicken Alouette, which I’ve also shared before and it was delish.

Fresh asparagus and salad were a perfect complement.

Macaroni and cheese was picked up from Picadilly and boy, was it good.

Along with fresh corn on the cob, we were happy and full at the end of the day. My strawberry cake and a carrot cake was a highlight for all of us with a sweet tooth.

I hope you all enjoyed your Mother’s Day too, either with your own kids or your mom if you are blessed to still have her. I feel SO fortunate to still have my mom to hug and love on!

I took a quick detour through Ikea on the way home and have some fun pics to share with you!

Hi Rhoda, You and your Mom really resemble she is a beautiful lady, just like her two daughters. I love fried chicken and I can fry a pretty good one according to my boys but your Mama’s looks perfection. I love the down home southern meal you served, nothing better than a home cooked meal. Now I want fried chicken and milk gravy and mashed potatoes. Oh my!!! I posted my seasonal changes on my mantle today, come by if you have some time. Hugs Kathysue

Well, Rhoda…I just had an immediate flashback to my Granny’s kitchen, when I saw that platter of fried chicken. Oh my….now I’m going to have to make a trip to the store and grab a chicken to fry…I know it won’t be as good, as your mother’s or my granny’s, but I am hungry for some good ol’ real fried chicken, right now. Everything else looks so good too.

    You “girls” look great.

Rhonda, my sister cooked it but I think she steamed it (not long) and added slivered almonds to it. I wasn’t there when she cooked it.

But, I’ll tell you a really easy way to do it too. I put the oven on 400* and lay out my asparagus on a cookie sheet. Drizzle with a little olive oil & add some lemon pepper. Bake for about 10-12 minutes & it’s delish. That’s how I do mine all the time now.

Southerners do it up right! My mom’s dinner was almost identical, except she made chicken and dumplins to go along with her fried chicken…YUM!

We have a huge controversy at work about the post we saw. DO YOU sell or make money when we buy at your shop by giving others our email address’ or when you post their giveways and they get our address??
Is this how RETAILERS get our information from blogs like yours??
If you do not answer, it has to be because you DO. You sell or give out our addresses!
PLEASE answer, inquiring minds want to know.

Barb, I do not nor have I ever sold email addresses that came from my blog. Any emails that have been collected are for the sole purpose of a giveaway & nothing else. I make a small commission off any SALES in my Open Sky shop, but that is it. No selling of email addresses have happened here EVER, nor will they ever. My blog has become a part-time business for me and that is how I look at it. I spend a HUGE amount of time putting together posts and content to share with all of you. The amount of money I make is nowhere near a full time income. I hope this puts to rest the questions that you & your work team have pondered over.

There are countless bloggers all over the blogworld that make money from advertising on their blogs. I’m definitely not the only one who advertises and I don’t apologize for it either.
