Demijohn Bottles

Inspired by photos like the one below, I’ve had my eye on these huge old wine bottles that we are seeing everywhere.   I just found out they are officially called demijohns.  Well, I’m likin’ the demijohns. (from Southern Living, February 2010)

I first took notice of these in person down at an antique shop called The Plunderosa (I’m dying to go back here by the way), on the way to Gulf Shores and even took pics of these pretty old bottles.  I have thought about these bottles ever since and kicked myself for not buying any. But, now I have a couple of them! I was able to do an online party with Willow House and got to purchase these at a discount.  My blue bottle envy has been satisfied.  These are hand blown with those pretty bubbles inside the glass and oh, so pretty.  I filled them up with some turning Fall leaves and they really make the room come alive. So, you can check them out too if they strike your fancy or find your own antique bottles. Note: Even though Willow House is a sponsor, the party was not part of the package. I just love the bottles and wanted to share them with you.

What do you think about these big blue bottles?  Are you craving some for your space too?

I have two of the green ones and I love them too. I use one for keeping all our change in and the other has a wonderful place on my dining room table right now. Enjoy

I think they are beautiful! I fell in love with these and so many other great things in the Willow house catalog that I signed up in September to become a WH consultant through Diane just to get the kit and the discount! LOL Those bottles might be next on my list. 🙂

I love those bottles!! I’ve not been able to bring myself to buy any at antique stores–the ones I’ve found have been so pricey!–but I keep admiring them.

The word “demijohn” always makes me think of one of my favorite books of all time, Little Women. I read it many times as a girl and have re-read it a few times as an adult. Meg was married to John and when they had twins, they named the boy “Demijohn.” They called him “Demi” for short. 🙂

    Hi Rhoda,
I love the look of those bottles, but I don’t really have a place for one. I do love the look of them with your turquoise insulaters, though, and with your beautiful branches in it. I have several old insulaters, perhaps I should use them somewhere. That would thrill my husband!
    Hugs, Cindy

Wow! Once more, you have made me so happy to be a daily viewer of your blog. The Willow House “Lady Jane” bottles are the hit of the fall for me and many of my friends I get to share WH with. Don’t forget you can make a lamp (or have one made) out of it for another use.
Mine have bittersweet twigs with a starfish happily standing in the opening 🙂 Gotta love the Gulf Coast.
Paying it Forward through generosity to all – so happy to be a part of WH family.
    Hugs, patti

My husband had a big blue demijohn that he kept change in sitting in the closet, then I saw a photo of one used for decoration in Cottage Style magazine, and I thought it was a cool idea. So my husband cleaned it up and we now have it on display in a corner in our living room! My husband never thought that some old demijohn that he bought at an antique store 20 years ago would be in style some day! 🙂

Well I learned something! I thought demijohns were the ones covered in wicker (or whatever). I do like them (covered or not), but would prefer the antique ones.

    Pretty with the fall foliage!

I passed up a demijohn bottle a few months ago at a thrift store and have also been kicking myself ever since. Your new ones are lovely! And how can you not love a store called Plunderosa?

I love the bottles Rhoda. The ones shown in the first picture are stunning. I love how you’ve put fresh cut branches in yours. It’s such an easy idea but makes such a statement. Have a wonderful week!
