I haven’t seen many of his movies, but when I was a little girl I remember seeing Rooster Cogburn in a theater with my parents. So I’d say that was my favorite.

I grew up on Westerns, too. True Grit with John Wayne and Kim Darby was one of the greatest movies and is my favorite.

My father is a huge John Wayne fan and I remember watching True Grit with him, and I would have to say that is my favorite.
Karenann S. says
My favorite John Wayne movie isn’t really a western. It was made in 1968, and it’s called Hellfighters. It’s about oil rigging and co-stars another one of my favorite actors, Jim Hutton. Katharine Ross is also in it. It is a really exciting and fun movie to watch. I always try to catch it whenever it’s on!
Michelle Norris says
I am a big Western fan! John Wayne is the greatest and I have to say that “McLintock” is my favorite!
Molly Tilson says
How fun! Yes… westerns a huge part of growing up! My Daddy took my brother and me to the rodeo because the actors from Bonanza were making an appearance. I went down and stood on the fence around the arena and was very disappointed that Little Joe didn’t ride up to me. Instead it was Hoss and he commented on liking my red Mary Jane shoes😂.
Rhoda says
HI, Molly, that’s such a cute story! We all loved Bonanza, didn’t we? My dad loves Westerns too and I grew up watching them with him. Every Sunday night after church we watched Bonanza. Great memories!
kathy says
True Grit:)
Deborah says
Rhoda: If you like westerns you must watch Yellowstone on the Paramount station on Wednesday nights at 10pm. It stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton who owns 1000s of acres in Montana. It is a modern day western and it is soooooo good! It’s THE best show on tv hands down. It is not on this week due to the holiday but returns next week. I know you will enjoy it. This is a new show not some sort of rerun.
Rhoda says
HI, Deborah, I have been wanting to watch Yellowstone and didn’t realize we get the Paramount network, so I’ve just gone in and recorded it! thank you for reminding me again, I thought we didn’t get that network but we do. I’ve heard great things about it and of course, I love Kevin!
Lynda Schneider says

Wow! I love this! We are HUGE John Wayne fans! Our boys grew up watching John Wayne movies and quote certain comments like when John Wayne, as Jacob McCandles in Big Jake, responds to a comment
“I thought you’s dead” and he replies “NOT HARDLY”!
I love The Searchers with young Natalie Wood, but my most favorite is McClintock with Maureen O’Hara! She and John Wayne together, priceless!
Thanks for this fun post!
