I’ve got a few outfits to share with you for Fashion over 50, from when I went to New Orleans. We had some nice warmer weather while we were down there, but I also wore bootcut jeans and my cowboy boots a couple of days.
I do love cowboy boots and treated myself to a nice pair a couple of years ago for my birthday. These are Tony Llama brown boots and after I got them broken in, they are really comfortable. These are square toed too and I think might be more comfortable than the pointy toed ones. I can wear these for hours. If you are in the market for cowboy boots, go to a good place that carries them and try on many pair before you decide on one. That’s what I did at a local place in Marietta, Horsetown. They have 100’s of boots and this pair was perfect for me. They are nice and broken in now and feel good.  Cowboy boots might not be for everyone, but I sure love mine.  Of course, you can wear any boots with bootcut jeans too.
These bootcut jeans are by Miss Me and I really like wearing them. They are a little lower cut than I usually like, but with a longer top, they are manageable and don’t slide down too far. I actually like a higher rise rather than a low rise jean.  I’m sure you know what I mean if you’ve tried on jeans lately.  Some of the jeans out there have a really tiny zipper. I prefer jeans that land right under the belly button for the best comfort. I don’t like high waisted anymore either.  I can stand a little low rise, but not extremely low.
The black sweater with white trim is cashmere and my sister got it for me for Christmas. It came from Steinmart. I added the new white faux fur vest that I picked up at the Atlanta Mart on my shopping spree. I’m really enjoying this piece too. Nice vest to layer over lots of things and it’s warm. The scarf is from Steinmart too, on sale of course. I love adding scarves to my wardrobe to mix things up a lot.  The vest is faux fur on the frontside and sweater material on the back and the brand is Lisa International.

Miss Me jeans also have a lot of bling on the back pockets and you can choose LOTS of bling or less bling. These are sort of in the middle. I like that they are form fitting through the seat and thighs and then flare out at the bottom for boots.
Here’s a look at my Tony Llama brown boots.  When wearing boots, I always make sure the jeans are nice and long.  I like for them to cover the back of the boot and almost touch the ground.  High water bootcut jeans = not a good look!
Casual and comfortable look with cowboy boots, jeans, and sweaters and vests.

Here’s another way I wore the Miss Me jeans in New Orleans. You’ve seen this aqua sweater before that I ordered online last year. It’s lightweight too and I layered the faux fur vest over it for a little more warmth.
Added a pretty infinity scarf and it made a nice casual outing outfit.
We were going shopping that day and it was very comfortable. If it gets too hot, I take off the vest. Lauren got me that pretty scarf for Christmas.
Here’s a closer look at the square toed Tony Llama boots.

Since you all liked seeing a different body type than me, I asked my pal, Vicki, to do her version of jeans and boots and she came up with a cute jeans and boots outfit, with flowy sweater and scarf. Â I will be asking some of my real life friends to model for me for future posts too, to get ideas on all different body shapes. Â Vicki is on a mission to lose weight and has joined a weight loss program that some of my blog friends are on. Â She’s lost 11.6 pounds in 3 weeks and I’m so proud of her. If you are interested in learning more about the program she is on, she wants to start coaching and you can get more information from her at her email address: Â [email protected]
So, that’s another fashion posts on cowboy boots and bootcut jeans, another favorite combo of mine during the winter months.
Do you have cowboy boots and are you comfortable wearing cowboy boots? I’m not sure they are for everyone, but I sure love mine!

I will be adding links in my fashion posts going forward and if you purchase from the links, you won’t pay a penny more, but I will earn a small commission. The boots look awesome and so do you. You are right about breaking them in, it takes a little while, but so very well worth it.
Glad to see you in your boots, boots are a weakness of mine, I had so many pairs I had to store some for now as I am living in an apt an building a new tiny home. I also love wearing them with dresses and leggings. You do the scarves well, that’s the one thing I can’t wear, I have neck pain with them, so I would rather wear a turtleneck with a great vest or jacket.
I would really like to know more about the program Vicki is using. I tried to reply to the email address that was provided, it keeps bring me back to the Southern Hospitality site.
HI, Mary Anne, you will need to copy her email address and paste it into your email browser. That link is not live.
You and I are the same height and weight, so I’m taking notes on your fashion choices.
Lookin’ great Rhoda, as usual. Boot cuts are here to stay. They are comfy, and flattering on almost everyone. And Vicki, congrats on your success! You look fab!
No cowboy boots for me. Just not my style. 🙂 I do love boot cut jeans! I am short and a boot cut worn longer with some chunky heels (clogs or booties/shooties) look best on me and give me a little length.
I’m not one for blingy pockets though. Love your scarves – I wear a ton of scarves and I also like to shop at Steinmart. I love the style of cardigan your friend is wearing also.
Love all your fashion styles. I have Frye boots which are alot like cowboy and love them.
Love your fashion post, you look great! Thanks to Vicki for sharing her outfit, she also looks great. I am approximately her size, so like to see her outfits.
Seeing you in your cowboy boots, makes me want to get mine out! I found a pair of BCBG a few years ago on sale and they are very comfy. This winter, I’ve been into wearing skinny jeans and leggings, but on occasions I do wear bootcut jeans for a more dressier look. I prefer midrise as well, the low rise usually gives me a bit of a muffin top, lol! A vest is so versatile and I love how you styled yours today. You look great in everything you put on, Rhoda!! Kudos to your friend, Vicki, on her weight loss! She looks great!!
P. S. I’m anxiously waiting on my package from Wrist Soirée!!
Wow! I am 38 and I never look this good!
I think fashion is fun when you’re pretty and have a great figure, but when you aren’t, and you don’t…well, let’s just say I would happily trade places with you in your 50’s rather than look like me in my 30’s! I’m sorry, I know these posts are only meant to inspire, it’s just now I not only feel bad about how my home looks, I feel bad about how I look, too!
Maybe I need to stop reading blogs…
OH, Dionne, I sure don’t want to make anyone feel bad about themselves with these posts. It really is meant for inspiration and different ways to wear clothes.
Dear Dionne,
I hear your frustration and want to encourage you if I may. First of all, you are you! Comparing yourself to others is futile! Make the best of where you are right now! What is your best feature? Your smile? Your eyes? Your hair? Decide on your best feature and play it up! Beauty comes from within and when you feel better mentally & emotionally it will enhance your physical appearance! Work with what you have. If budget is a concern, hit the thrift stores for something new. What’s your favorite color? Wear something new and different! jPaint your nails, style your hair differently…just do something to begin to feel better about yourself. You are not alone! I have always compared myself to other women to a fault. As for how your home looks, well, sister, if you could see how UN decorated my home is you’d be surprised and I am best friends with the Queen of all things STYLED! But I learn from her, apply what I can based on my lifestyle and family, and seek to be content. It’s a process but you can find some sunshine in your world if you look a little harder!
Thank you,
I am sorry, I didn’t mean to be so negative. It’s just hard sometimes seeing so many beautiful homes, fashions, vacations, etc. and not compare myself. I know I shouldn’t, and I try to just be inspired, but…it can be hard. I love decorating, and that’s what got me started reading all of these blogs, they give me a “pretty” break in my day. I am a mental health case manager, and momma to two littles, so some days are more stressful than others! Thanks for the encouragement!!
Dionne
Dionne, stop being so hard on yourself! We may not all have a great figure, but we can all look and feel beautiful. It all starts from within. God Bless
Rhoda, thank you so much for these fashion posts. I’m enjoying them even more than the home decor, and both are inspirational. No cowboy boots for me: I’m laid up recovering from foot surgery, but they sure look great on you. I love the way you show different looks using the same pieces with different accessories. Helpful to the fashion- challenged like me.
Rhoda – I kind of chuckled after reading your post. I’ve been a fan of cowboy boots forever and have more than 10 pair in my closet, ranging from basics leather to exotic skins…but my favorites are the two pair I purchased used for less than $20. One pair were found at a flea market and the other at an antique store! Used boots are the best because they have a bit of character, and best of all they’re already broken in!!!!
Love your boots, brings back sweet memories of my Dad. I have his alligator Tony Llama boots, he always wore cowboy boots and always the best he could afford. I am not a cowgirl boot kinda gal, but I am sure if I lived in the south I would have a pair, I think they are darling. You look great in a pair of bootcuts and they are just the right length. I am not a fan of bling on the behind, but that is because it would be like putting a neon sign on the back of a semi if I wore it. I think it is cute on the young, but I prefer a bit more subtle behind for me, if you know what I mean, LOL. Keep up spreading the lesson of taking extra care in how you look at any age!!! I will be cheering you on!!
Love Love Love your blog! I’m in my early 50s & try to dress stylish, yet age appropriate. It is a challenge at times because so many fashions are geared toward a younger woman. However, I don’t want to look like Sophia on the Golden Girls either! Please keep giving us great ideas on how you keep your look relevant & classy.
Love the cowboy boots! Great tips!
Debbie
I love cowboy boots, too. I just purchased a “good” pair and am in the process of breaking them in. I love fashion Wednesday and seeing what you are wearing. I started posting fashion at 50 posts a couple of months ago on Wednesdays as well and am surprised by how much I like doing them and what a need there is for them. Keep them coming!
Another great post. I live in MI and bought a pair of cowboy boots a couple of years ago while on a business trip in TX. Love them! You look fab and l really enjoy these posts for us “older” girls.
love your style Rhoda. You are really helping us all with fashion, and you do it so well. You show you can look like a million bucks, without spending it. You put accessories together so well, just the right amount. So proud of Vicki on her weight loss. Keep on keeping on teaching us. You are blessed sweetheart ,thanks for sharing that blessing with us out here. We love you.
The boots and sweaters are nice but the blingy pocket jeans are more suitable for younger girls.
