I’ve got a few outfits to share with you for Fashion over 50, from when I went to New Orleans. We had some nice warmer weather while we were down there, but I also wore bootcut jeans and my cowboy boots a couple of days.
I do love cowboy boots and treated myself to a nice pair a couple of years ago for my birthday. These are Tony Llama brown boots and after I got them broken in, they are really comfortable. These are square toed too and I think might be more comfortable than the pointy toed ones. I can wear these for hours. If you are in the market for cowboy boots, go to a good place that carries them and try on many pair before you decide on one. That’s what I did at a local place in Marietta, Horsetown. They have 100’s of boots and this pair was perfect for me. They are nice and broken in now and feel good.  Cowboy boots might not be for everyone, but I sure love mine.  Of course, you can wear any boots with bootcut jeans too.
These bootcut jeans are by Miss Me and I really like wearing them. They are a little lower cut than I usually like, but with a longer top, they are manageable and don’t slide down too far. I actually like a higher rise rather than a low rise jean.  I’m sure you know what I mean if you’ve tried on jeans lately.  Some of the jeans out there have a really tiny zipper. I prefer jeans that land right under the belly button for the best comfort. I don’t like high waisted anymore either.  I can stand a little low rise, but not extremely low.
The black sweater with white trim is cashmere and my sister got it for me for Christmas. It came from Steinmart. I added the new white faux fur vest that I picked up at the Atlanta Mart on my shopping spree. I’m really enjoying this piece too. Nice vest to layer over lots of things and it’s warm. The scarf is from Steinmart too, on sale of course. I love adding scarves to my wardrobe to mix things up a lot.  The vest is faux fur on the frontside and sweater material on the back and the brand is Lisa International.

Miss Me jeans also have a lot of bling on the back pockets and you can choose LOTS of bling or less bling. These are sort of in the middle. I like that they are form fitting through the seat and thighs and then flare out at the bottom for boots.
Here’s a look at my Tony Llama brown boots.  When wearing boots, I always make sure the jeans are nice and long.  I like for them to cover the back of the boot and almost touch the ground.  High water bootcut jeans = not a good look!
Casual and comfortable look with cowboy boots, jeans, and sweaters and vests.

Here’s another way I wore the Miss Me jeans in New Orleans. You’ve seen this aqua sweater before that I ordered online last year. It’s lightweight too and I layered the faux fur vest over it for a little more warmth.
Added a pretty infinity scarf and it made a nice casual outing outfit.
We were going shopping that day and it was very comfortable. If it gets too hot, I take off the vest. Lauren got me that pretty scarf for Christmas.
Here’s a closer look at the square toed Tony Llama boots.

Since you all liked seeing a different body type than me, I asked my pal, Vicki, to do her version of jeans and boots and she came up with a cute jeans and boots outfit, with flowy sweater and scarf. Â I will be asking some of my real life friends to model for me for future posts too, to get ideas on all different body shapes. Â Vicki is on a mission to lose weight and has joined a weight loss program that some of my blog friends are on. Â She’s lost 11.6 pounds in 3 weeks and I’m so proud of her. If you are interested in learning more about the program she is on, she wants to start coaching and you can get more information from her at her email address: Â [email protected]
So, that’s another fashion posts on cowboy boots and bootcut jeans, another favorite combo of mine during the winter months.
Do you have cowboy boots and are you comfortable wearing cowboy boots? I’m not sure they are for everyone, but I sure love mine!

Kind of hard on your friend Vickie for not being skinny aren’t you? You don’t seem as humble as you used to be either.
Hi Jan,
Rhoda is not being hard on me at all! I eagerly participate in the Fashion Over Fifty posts! She is well aware she is the exception to the average woman’s size. She’s just featuring different body types which makes sense when posting on Fashion Over Fifty! We are one week apart in age have enjoyed a close friendship for 40+ years. I love being part of her blog life and have learned so much from her about interior design, styling, and overcoming adversity. As for her humility, well, anyone that puts themselves in public view will be a target for some measure of scrutiny. She loves her readers and is very thankful for her blog life! I am happy for her success and know she absolutely does not take it for granted but sees it as a blessing from God. Walk a mile in her boots!
Good to know you aren’t offended – she constantly mentions your weight and constantly mentions that she does not have a weight problem. Glad to know she counts her blessings.
Rhoda, Love your fashion segments. I’m not a boot wearer & I can’t wear certain boots or shoes because of my RA (rheumatoid arthritis) but I try to find items that stay in fashion. You give me so many ideas & I love most of the clothes you model. Vickie, you look great too. I like the accessories used, these help make the outfit, I think.
I really enjoy your fashion posts! But $95 for a pair of jeans? Not gonna happen.
Vicki my dear, you look amazing! Keep up the good work! But even if you don ‘t lose one more ounce, you are absolutely stunning.
And to Dionne, the smile on your children’s faces is where your beauty radiates in this season of your life. Someday you will have time for a beautifully decorated home, and a fashionable wardrobe. Until then, enjoy the precious gift of motherhood. Take it from someone who ‘s been in your (sensible) shoes!
Thanks Rhoda. Your fashion style is spot on for women approaching their 50’s, and beyond. You are beautiful.
I am in love with scarves. It took me a while to get used to wearing them, but they are such an easy way to add a layer and dress up an outfit. I especially love the black and tan scarf you show!
Love the Aqua on you, Rhoda! I’m afraid I’m not into cowboy boots. They just don’t seem that popular in my area.
Vicki, thank you for being such a good sport and posing for Rhoda’s blog. My weight fluctuates so I can take something away from both body types. Love fashion Wednesday!
Another great post! I love boot-cut jeans; they’re very slenderizing a suit a wide range of figure types as this post shows. You really shine in pastel colours. They look very soft and youthful whereas I look totally washed out in them. Thanks for writing these posts.
You need to delete this one, Rhoda! What possesses people?
OMG….had mine on yesterday! You look so cute in yours! I paired a sweater dress with mine so I could show the stitching detail and tights then added western turquoise necklace, earrings, and bracelet. Topped it off with a denim jacket and out the door I went . They are so fun to wear and add just the right amount of sass . So glad you love your cowboy boots as much as I do mine! Took me a while to find a pair that fit well as 5.5 usually run big in boots but finally found a pair that fit super good!
My hubby bought me Nine West boots that have pointy toes a few years ago. I can’t believe how comfortable they are. I truly wouldn’t mind getting another pair. These are brown and I feel I need a really colorful pair. Of course we have had so much snow in Connecticut – and more coming tomorrow and over the weekend – that I am now wearing regular boots to try to keep my toes warm!
Annie, you are being rude, Just stop it.
THanks, ladies, Annie got deleted. That was downright mean after what I went through.
Rhoda, I love your outfit. I wear bling jeans too, and love them! I’ve worked hard to lose 45 pounds and have kept it off for a year. I’ll wear bling if I want to!
Yes, please delete the rude and insensitive comments… life is too short to put up with these kind of people… just move on! I am in my early 60s, and while I can’t wear all the same styles that you can, I want to always look my best. I get some great ideas from you. Thank you for being you, you are an inspiration……God bless.
Love these outfits! I’m still a fan of my bootcut jeans and wear them all the time. You both look lovely!
Thank you so much for the inspiration Rhoda! I look forward to reading your blog every day – you are so encouraging and inspire me to make the most of my own life. You and Vicki both look fantastic in these photos. Please continue with the fashion posts!!!
Sarah
You look great in both outfits. Love the jeans but us girls with bigger butts just can’t wear bling on the pockets. It draws attention to where I don’t want it with the bling. Plain pockets for me. The scarf from your daughter is a lovely color and looks so good on you. Love my Nocona boots the best. No break in time and they are so comfy. Have you tried them?
Thank you for another great post! I was wondering – What do you think about the trend of ladies wearing cowboy boots with dresses and bare legs?? I know this is very popular with young girls and many have used this look for bridesmaids. Although they look cute, I am wondering if this might be one of those things they look back on 15, 20 years down the road and say “what were we thinking???”
I was born and raised in Texas and we would have never dreamed of wearing boots and a dress – this is definitely a recent trend. In fact, it would have looked very “nerdy” (can’t think of a better term!).
Don’t get me wrong – I love boots. Just not sure about mixing them with a cute, dressy, summery dress. I would love to know your opinion! And what do other women REALLY think about this trend?!
Catherine
HI, Catherine, good question! I have actually worn my cowboy boots with a sweater dress and tights but when I look back at the pics, I’m not so crazy about it. So, I’ll probably leave that trend to the younger girls. Definitely not that great for older gals, like me. I think it’s cute in the right setting, but definitely a younger trend. I’ve seen some older artsy women wearing the peasant type dresses with cowboy boots and that is not bad, but you have to have the attitude to pull that off. Not really my thing.
You look great! I’m in my early 30’s and I love wearing my bright red Ariat cowboy boots with bootcut jeans! I get so excited for Fall and Winter so I can wear them. When I wear my red boots, I also wear a red infinity scarf. I look forward to reading your blog every day, Rhoda. Just from reading, I know you are such a great person and I wish I was your neighbor so you could help me decorate my house! Keep up the great work 🙂
I have 2 pair of cowboy boots and love both of them…along with my Frye Melissa Button boots too. One pair of cowboy boots are so comfy I have actually sprinted in them and they didn’t hurt my feet at all. Love reading your fashion blog…being that I am a woman of a certain age
