Hello my friends! Â Today, I’m off on another blog adventure. Â You may remember that last year, I was invited by Phantom Screens to come and preview a historic house in Mobile that they were taking on and renovating, calling it Southern Romance. Â The renovations took months, but the house is finally finished and ready to show off! Â I can’t wait to see it in person and come back and share it with all of you too.
Meanwhile on Fashion over 50, it’s been awhile, but today I’m back with my friend, Vicki, and she is sharing a few new things in her closet. Â You may remember that she and I went shopping awhile back and she added some trendy new things to her wardrobe. Â She loved the bootcut jeans so much that she bought them and has been sporting them lately. Â Bootcut jeans are a great way to balance out your figure as the fitted thighs and flared legs offset hips and shoulders creating a slimmer look.
If you’re new to my blog, Vicki is my longtime friend. Â We’ve been friends since we were 15, are exactly the same age, and our birthdays are a week apart.
Jessica Simpson Bootcut Jeans, similar pair (affiliate link) Â
The top is a turquoise thermal top by Calvin Klein. Can’t find it online.
Long fringe Sweater – Melissa McCarthy Seven7, found it at HSN online.Â
The longer fringe sweater is a great layer for Fall/Winter outfits.
Vicki is wearing a Ginger Snaps bracelet and these buttons change out to different looks.
For a bright pop of color, she added a red bow tie top, which would work for holidays. Â Pink satin top by Nine West.
And last, a layered cream lace top with the gray sweater, topped with a scarf.
Lace top by Eye Shadow. Can’t find it online, but it came from Macy’s.
Vicki also got a new haircut recently and I think it looks fantastic. Â Her hair has been layered for a long time, but she got a more precise bob done recently. Â Here’s the BEFORE. Â It’s amazing what a good cut and color and makeup will do as a pick me up!
And the AFTER, with makeup and the new haircut! Â Doesn’t she look great?!
The cut and color look great with Vicki’s coloring!
Hope you enjoyed having Vicki back on Fashion over 50. Â Vicki’s youngest son just got engaged, so there will be a wedding in their future this year. Â So happy for the couple!
Vickie looks absolutely fabulous!!!
It’s so nice to see you back, Vicki! The flared jeans look great and it’s so nice to see how many different looks you can get from one pair jeans with several different tops, and how stylish jeans can be. I especially like the raspberry coloured satin blouse. And it really is wonderful to see what a difference is made by a good cut and some make up; you look radiant!
The Calvin Klein top is available on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Calvin-Klein-Performance-Distressed-Sweatshirt/dp/B015CHE8GW/ref=sr_1_9?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1456334084&sr=1-9&nodeID=10445813011&keywords=calvin+klein+thermal+top
You look beautiful, Vicki! Raspberry is definitely one of your colors!
Rhoda, thanks for showing different body types in your fashion posts!
She does look great!
Hello y’all! Love this fashion post and the new haircut! Absolutely fabulous! Would love to know what makeup products she used! Stunning before and after pictures!!!
Hello to Rhoda’s readers and thank you all so much for the positive comments. I am so happy about my new hair stylist and hair style and will definitely keep the look. The new hair cut is easy to style and maintain even after exercise. Several mentioned the jeans are too long and I agree. Even though I’m 5’8″ they are too long but I bought them for a trip out of town with my hubby and didn’t have time to hem them. Trust me, flared bell bottom jeans dragging the floor remind me of the 70’s, not an image I care to create. Rhoda and I commented how we used to wear bow blouses back in the day. I bought the red satin bow blouse to wear with a tailored black pantsuit for a special Christmas event I hosted at church. But I loved it with the gray sweater and black pants and the dark jeans. It’s fun to mix pieces that might not normally work. Yep, living’ on the edge at the age of 59! Thanks again for the thoughtful comments. Rhoda and I have fun together and I appreciate the opportunity to visit with her readers. Until next time…! Vicki
Vicki you look stunning! 😉
Those boot cut jeans give a long, lean look. I must pick up a pair. I also love the fringe sweater. Your haircut is very flattering. As said before, the fringe softens our faces as we age. Not… that we’re old?
Hello again! A couple of you asked about the makeup products I’m wearing in the photos. Well, I wear a hodgepodge of products and all can be purchased at a drug or grocery store. My foundation is Colorstay by Revlon. I’ve had several compliments on it and I like the full coverage it provides as I have a lot of redness and freckles to cover. But let me caution you, the color does “stay” and has stained a couple of my garments. The blush is Loreal Bare Naturalle mineral powder blush in color Sugar Plum. I’m not sure it’s still available. The lip color is Maybelline, a neutral color Crazy for Coffee. For the eyes I used Neutrogena yellow toned highlighter in an eye shadow quad called Copper Glow 130. The eye shadow is a product by Maybelline, a cream shadow in the Color Tattoo by Eye Studio line. It’s 24 hour shadow, color Tough as Taupe. And the mascara is Great Lash by Maybelline, a tried and true favorite of mine in the hot pink tube with lime green lid from the 1970’s! Only now I use the BIG, with a bigger brush. As for my skin care, I use Neutrogena makeup removal cloths that are gentle and clean well. For toner I use witch hazel with a cotton ball and I use coconut oil for moisturizer. I apply coconut oil a good while before applying foundation or skip moisturizer under foundation. Just depends on my schedule. I don’t wear makeup if I’m home all day. To find the right foundation I researched beauty blogs to read reviews on various products. Did you know you can purchase a cosmetic product from most drug stores, open and use the product and if it isn’t a match for you, you can return the product for a full refund? I surely don’t abuse this but it is helpful when you want to experiment with a product you’re interested in. I hope this is helpful to some of you who are considering some changes in hair or makeup. Be encouraged! While beauty comes from within, sometimes a few simple changes on the outside brings out our best from the inside! Blessings to you all! Vicki
Thank you for the info on the makeup, I”m going to try the foundation and blush. Be sure you use a sunscreen everyday too!~!
Makeup is a women’s best friend, when applied correctly. Well done, Vicki!
Vicki is so pretty. I love the new hair style.
Vicki, you look great. That cut and color are so flattering.
Fabulous Vicki . ..happy for you !
I love jeans but prefer straight leg…Karen Kane my favorite. And this past week did a CHANEL tutorial . ..and the Charge proved it…was having terrible transition to mature skin and pores…seriously what’s with turning 65 and pores…brown spots. Was there a timer that went off! But learning and loving the new makeup . …but warning …very pricey but HUBS said less than life coach or therapy vacation . …*)
Vicki – you look beautiful in your outfits – LOVE the jeans! They’re so stylish and oh so flattering on most body types, and your pairing them with the cool fringed sweater makes your look so modern and fresh! Us, ahem, older gals deserve to look awesome, even in casual wear, and you’re certainly looking awesome today!
Vicki, I like every one of your outfits! And I really like your new haircut. You look great! Makes me smile, seeing people that look so pretty! Keep up the good looks!!!
I love that new cut and color! Really looks softer and feminine! I think when your hair is colored and styled, you wear make-up and cute jewelry , that the clothes become secondary. Vicki looks lovely.
Love the haircut and color! Love the pretty scarf, too!
Vicki, I LOVED your haircut so much I took it to my stylist today to show her how I wanted my haircut. It is a great style and I love it! Thanks for the inspiration!
A great inspirational hair cut. Your friend has such a pretty and kind face. I’m impressed by Lynn’s comment above, hairdressers usually ignore the photos I take in or tell me point blank that it won’t work with my hair type/ head shape/ it will take a lot of daily upkeep etc etc. Needless to say, I avoid going until I’m desperate!
What happened to Vicki Davis? I’ve been trying to follow her blog too and it ended April 2016 and her email on that blog is incorrect.
HI, Gail, Vicki is still around, just not blogging. She and I are still very dear friends and I see her often. She’s been very busy with her mom’s health issues and family things the last year or so and hasn’t done much online.
