Fun at the Beach

Since we have just returned from the beach, I don’t have any thrifty treasures to show you today. Actually we got back on Friday and even though it was raining here on Saturday a.m., I did get out and hit a few sales, but it was a bust. I didn’t find much of anything, so I should have stayed home. I’m starting to drag right now on getting out to the yardsales, so I’m going to wrap up the Thrifty Treasures party next weekend and we’ll resume again next Spring. I know many of you want to keep going with it, but I need a break! 🙂 So, come back next weekend for ONE MORE Thrifty Treasures party for this year. I promise, we’ll do it again in the spring! I’ve got lots going on in October (like that Holiday House I’m participating in)  and will need to slow it down anyway.

So, this week you get to see some beach pics from me.  I’ve got a TON of pics and will have to share them a little at a time over the next week.

This is the third time we’ve stayed at this particular condo complex (in case you want to check it out, Dunes of Seagrove)  in Seagrove, FL and even though it rained every other day, we still had some fun and relaxation.  With this view, how can you go wrong?  We have thoroughly enjoyed staying at these condos since they are tucked away from the main road and they are right on the beach.  And they are just down the road from Seaside.  It’s not as busy here as it is in Destin.  We also have our favorite restaurants which I’ll share in another post.   We’ve stayed in 2 different units here and most of them have a great view.

Truly, if you’ve never been to the Gulf in Florida, you are missing out!

The view from balcony.

We met up once again with our friends, Kat and George for a delish Italian dinner.  If you haven’t followed this story, Kat and I met through blogging back in 2007 and met up when we went to the beach that year and have been friends ever since.  We actually dog sat for their dog, Daisy, last year at their house and had a ball.  Kat and I just pick up like old friends when we get together.  Blogging truly has been a blessing.  I love all the friends I have made!  Kat wrote about our shopping trip (click that link) and I’ll get to that later too.  Their daughter is getting married in the spring on the beach, so Kat is really busy with planning that.

IMG_6603

Sunset outside the condo.  I did manage to get one sunset photographed, in spite of the rain.

It’s magical this time of day.

Ahh, what a beautiful sunset.

Along with  some shrimp we bought for boiling, but this is the bluefish caught.  YUMMY!

So, that’s what I did this week.  I’ll share more from the trip later too.

What did YOU do?

Did you get out and about this weekend and find any treasures.  You know how it works.

So, get ready to share your treasures too.  Remember our guidelines for Mr. Linky parties:

  1. Enter your permalink to your thrifty post and NOT just your blog url.  If you aren’t sure how to do that, please refer back to last week’s party. All links that do not go to your party post will be deleted.
  2. Please add a link back to THIS post, so that all your readers can find the party and join in or at least read about all the fun that everyone else had, or I’ll have to delete those too.
  3. If you come back & your link is deleted, it’s because your link was incorrect (and I couldn’t identify it) OR you didn’t link back to this party. Please try again!

It is a small world we live in. Kat and George are the parents of one of my best guy friends that I graduated highschool with. How fun that you have made such great friendships through blogging.

[…] I wasn’t really able to do a whole lot of thrifting this last week, I was home mush of the time, but I did want to share some of what I found with you guys! Before we took hubby to the airport we went to the GW Outlet in Indy… it has huge blue bins and you have to dig for what you want! lol Everything is really cheap though, hardcover books are 50 cents, anything fabric is sold by the pound ($1.39 each). Hubby found a pair of brown cargo pants that I didn’t manage to get a photo of before he left. / / Hubby actually found me this New York & Co shirt that is brand new, still has the tag on it for $35. Since it is sheer and weighs almost nothing I probably paid less than 50 cents for it. I already have cut it up and am using the fabric in a project! There was a ton of the crochet trim and it will be saved for future projects. / / I loved this vintage sheet and it’s green scalloped embroidered trim, It probably cost me $1.50. We also found three cool books that were 50 cents each. The Wonderland of Knowledge book is beautiful with embossing and gilting. It’s beautifully illustrated and seems to be from sometime in the late 40s. It’s like a cultural encyclopedia for children wish they had had the rest of the set. The next book is called Motivated Primary Activities and is dated 1925. It’s a collection of projects, creative play and learning exercises for children intended for teachers in rural areas. Finally we have this AWESOME, BEAUTIFUL book that my husband found! The cover and spine are both deeply embossed (you have to click the image for a larger view). It’s called The Junior Classics: A Library for Boys & Girls, Vol III, Tales from Greece & Rome. It’s also beautifully illustrated and from 1918. / / I loved the base of this red velvet dress by Rose Cottage, after a little scissor time it should be much better. I like this wool mix dress from Old Navy, it’s lined too which is nice. They were $1 each. This red velvet Small Wonders jumper is satin lined and has the cutest little tartan ruffle around the bottom, it was 50 cents. I LOVED this little tartan skirt with the black velvet ribbon at the waist. It has under bloomers instead of being a skort, which I can’t stand, it was $1. / / I paid $1 for this new pink burlap purse with tan leather handles, I think it will be great for embroidery! / / HAHHAHA YES another ugly plaid blazer. Once this loses a scissor fight it will look much better I assure you! and it was $4 as well. The black Old Navy onesie with the scallop edging was $1, the white Small Wonders onesie with the cotton collar was 50 cents and the black Children’s Place silver sparkle turtleneck was $1. / / These are Lane Bryant tan velvet pants I bought for $4. They are a tall, but that is easily fixed. Beautiful angora and lambs’ wool turtleneck sweater! So SOFT! Paid $4 for it. / / I know my husband loves Mr. T, lol, so when I saw this teen size shirt I snatched it up, figuring I could make it into something else. When I called him and told him I found one, he started describing it to me and was so excited! Apparently HE had owned one just like it when he was in HS and has no idea where it went to! hahaha This one is too small for him, but we will put it to good use. it was $1.50 / To see what other bloggers found for cheap this weekend, click over to Southern Hospitality’s Thifty Treasures blog party.
